Fired Fox Sports Executive Files Discrimination Lawsuit A disgruntled African-American executive at Fox Sports who alleges that he was constantly looked over for promotions before eventually being fired after 15 years of employment is claiming in a recent lawsuit that his unfavorable experiences at the network were due to the fact that he was black. via Deadline The plaintiff Jerry Davis alleges in a lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court that the Fox Sports Corporate Group currently employs 34 executives above the VP level – and not one of them is black: “Indeed, to the best of Mr. Davis’s knowledge, no Black person has ever held any position at or above vice president in that division’s entire 19-year existence. Representation of Black individuals in leadership positions in other sports divisions at FOX is, and always has been, similarly abysmal. [Davis claims that] Despite his repeated and express interest in the [Fox Sports VP of Music] position, his superior education, skills, and performance as well as strong support from senior-level colleagues of various Fox music departments and other FOX Sports departments, Mr. Davis was denied the promotion each and every time. Fox Sports denied Mr. Davis the promotion each time because, as a Black man, he did not fit neatly into the company’s corporate culture.” Davis maintains he did not receive a single promotion during his entire career at Fox Sports because of his race. The Fox network is no stranger to being known for openly throwing shade to minorities. Do you think Mr. Davis’ case will stand a chance in court?

C’mon son. If a black politician said “our fat white governor…” it would have been a problem. New Jersey governor Chris Christie is under fire again, this time for referring to New Jersey’s first black female leader of the state Assembly using her race and gender instead of her name! Via NYDailyNews reports : Republican Gov. Chris Christie has been asked to apologize for referring to the first black female leader of the state Assembly by race and gender, not by name, during a church-hosted meeting. Christie, who’s white, told an audience Tuesday that an “African-American female speaker of the Assembly” is blocking a vote on a school voucher bill that would let children in failing districts attend classes elsewhere. Democratic Speaker Sheila Oliver later said she was “appalled” that Christie injected race into the discussion on education. Oliver, who represents a district with some failing schools, has said she believes the state should make a larger investment in public education. On Thursday, the pastor whose church hosted the meeting asked Christie to apologize. He said the governor was disrespectful to the speaker and missed a chance to unite the community. “I was and am saddened by the governor’s blatant attack (on the speaker),” said Kenneth Clayton, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church in Paterson. “The words that the governor chose to use in speaking of Oliver, while not even respecting her enough to call her by name, defy his earlier assertion that political leaders, himself included, need to learn to respect all views and work together.” A Christie spokesman said the governor’s comments were misinterpreted. The flap comes at an inopportune time for Christie, who has been courting the black and Latino vote for his re-election bid in November. It’s definitely disrespectful, but do you think the pastor made too big of a deal out of this? Or was Christie merely trying to point out that Oliver wasn’t protecting her own?

Is this commercial racist, or is everything racist nowadays? NBC Reports: Arab-American groups have sharply criticized a Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad depicting an Arab walking through the desert with a camel, and one group said it would ask the beverage giant to change it before CBS airs the game on Sunday before an expected audience of more than 100 million U.S. viewers. “Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists, or belly dancers?” said Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC. Coca-Cola released an online teaser of the commercial last week, showing the Arab walking through a desert. He soon sees cowboys, Las Vegas showgirls and a motley crew fashioned after the marauders of the apocalyptic “Mad Max” film race by him to reach a gigantic bottle of Coke. In its ad, Coke asks viewers to vote online on which characters should win the race. The online site does not allow a vote for the Arab character. “The Coke commercial for the Super Ball is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the world,” Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said in an email. “What message is Coke sending with this?” asked Abed Ayoub, ADC’s director of legal and policy affairs. “By not including the Arab in the race, it is clear that the Arab is held to a different standard when compared to the other characters in the commercial,” he said. CBS declined comment. Coca-Cola spokeswoman Lauren Thompson said Coke took a “cinematic” approach with the ad, employing the characters as a nod to movies of the past. “Coca-Cola is an inclusive brand enjoyed by all demographics,” she said in an email. “We illustrate our core values, from fun and refreshment to happiness, inspiration and optimism across all of our marketing communications.” Ayoub said ADC intended to contact Coke and CBS Corp on Thursday to “hopefully start a dialog.” “I want to know why this happened and how can we fix this if possible before Sunday,” he said. The ADC garnered attention back in 1992 when it complained that lyrics in the Walt Disney animated film “Aladdin” were racist. Ronald Goodstein, professor at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, said he was surprised by the image as well. “If Coke’s vision is to be an arm’s distance away from every customer, why would they want to offend the Arab world?” said Goodstein. Ayoub said the commercial could harm Coke’s business with the Arab community. “Coke should understand and respect their consumers and have a better understanding of the market they are sharing,” he Ayoub. The company has a large market share in the Middle East and North Africa, he noted, and many convenience stores and other retail outlets in the United States that offer Coke are owned by Arab-Americans. Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t had many opportunities to show off her comedic chops onscreen — she only burst onto the scene three years ago in Winter’s Bone , then quickly filled up her dance card with action blockbusters like X-Men: First Class and The Hunger Games before taking on the awards season contender Silver Linings Playbook — but the Best Actress front-runner has been delighting awards-watchers left and right on the Oscar circuit these past few months. The girl is funny — sardonic, whip-smart, witty, self-deprecating, and she knows what’s what as she plays the Hollywood game, which is why her post-Golden Globes hosting gig on Saturday Night Live will be one to watch. The promo bits are hit and miss — spoofing awards season with Jason Sudeikis, Lawrence at least nails the giddy awkwardness of getting up on that podium only to be played off by the orchestra, amirite Daniel Day-Lewis ? — but it’s promising enough just to see her mugging for the laughs. Here’s hoping once that Silver Linings Oscar is on her mantle she’ll tackle some comedies. Actual real comedies that grown-ups might want to watch! Now there’s an idea. The SNL gig also cements Lawrence as the popular favorite in her race, although I’d totally watch Emmanuelle Riva and Quvenzhané Wallis tag-team an SNL co-hosting gig. Think bigger next time, guys. I have had the unfortunate job of living at a ski hill for at least one season operating the chair lift because I live in fucking Canada and that was the only work I could get in my small shitty town that I originally moved to when I met my fat wife off the internet based on pics that weren’t even of her….I got catfished people…only instead of making a documentary and TV show about it…I got married…. At that ski hill….I saw one or two hot bitches on the regular…who would change into their suits at the lodge…..all cold and hard nippled…but the the real stars of the race team…the Lindsey Vonn’s of the hill were built like school busses with tree trunk legs, shitty asses and faces I didn’t notice cuz I was too busy scoping them out for dicks… Kinda how I feel about this half naked shoot of Lindsey Vonn for Outside magazine..I mean she races as a girl…but it could be some Venus Williams, Lady Bug (RIP BRANDIS), She’s The Man (RIP BYNES), Miss Universe has a dick…shit…and you fucking love the ambiguity…you freak.

White House party crasher, former reality star and perennial fame whore Tareq Salahi is running for Governor of Virginia as an “independent Republican.” Salahi said back in April that he planned to run for governor and seek the Republican nomination, but decided yesterday to run apart from the GOP ticket. State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II was the only person to file as a GOP candidate for governor, and he was deemed the nominee Monday. He is expected to face veteran campaign strategist Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, with the former Mr. Michaele Salahi running as a third party candidate. Salahi told The Washington Post that this improves chances in November. “That’s the best way I can win this race, not going to the convention,” he said. “I’m doing just like Bill Bolling did. I can’t agree with anything that Cuccinelli believes in.” Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling left the GOP contest in November and is also considering an independent bid. Virginia’s gubernatorial race is set for this November. Salahi is, of course, best known for crashing a White House State Dinner with wife Michaele Salahi, before she left him for Journey guitarist Neal Schon. Remeber that whole saga? That was hilarious.

Still on suspension by ESPN, Rob Parker has offered a public apology for the race-based rant he went on last week against Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. On First Take , the reporter referred to Griffin as a ” cornball brother ” and said he’s a pretend African-American, partly because the rookie is married to a white woman. Rob Parker Robert Griffin III Rant “I blew it and I’m sincerely sorry,” Parker Tweeted today. “I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care.” Parker continued: “This past Thursday I failed to do that. I believe the intended topic is a worthy one. Robert’s thoughts about being an African-American quarterback and the impact of his phenomenal success have been discussed in other media outlets, as well as among sports fans, particularly those in the African-American community. “The failure was in how I chose to discuss it on First Take , and in doing so, turned a productive conversation into a negative one.” Parker said he’s contacting the player’s agent in hopes to talk to Griffin and “will take the time to consider how I can continue to tackle difficult, important topics in a much more thoughtful manner.” Is this enough? Should ESPN end Parker’s suspension? Or should ESPN fire the journalist? Yes, he crossed a major line! No, I believe his apology! View Poll »
