Wiz Khalifa’s ‘The Race’ Hits The Net

Pittsburgh rapper recently described laid-back single to MTV News as a ‘swag song.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Papers is arriving song-by-song ahead of its March 29 release date. The latest record to spring forth onto the Web is “The Race,” a breezy number about the Pittsburgh rapper’s rise to the top. “I’m in the race and taking the winner’s place,” Wiz says, delivering the hook in his trademark melodic flourish over I.D. Labs’ production work. “No foot on the breaks/ One of the best homey, that’s what they call me/ It’s lonely at the top, ain’t no company/ So now I just stunt on my own, I just stunt on my own.” Last year, Wiz described the track as a “swag song,” calling it “an attitude, ‘doing what we do’-type thing,” he explained. “Every song, they were like, ‘Man, this is going to the radio. You could go to the radio with that,’ ” Wiz said when he previewed the collection for a select group in Los Angeles. “So they are good songs, but they are also songs that are going to be accepted widely.” “I’ve got to stick to what I know, what I’ve been doing,” he added. “My main producers have been doing the bulk of the album, and it’s majority done. We’re just doing the big songs now, putting some of the features together, but really, it’s more personal. You get to see me and feel me more as a person, but it’s still that same edgy, that same rawness that people dig.” What do you think of Wiz’s new song, “The Race”? Let us know in the comments! Lady Gaga’s Born This Way: What We Know So Far

MTV News rounds up what we know about the songs on the May release. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Paul Warner/WireImage With months to go until we can get our hands on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, the pop star has been slowing leaking details about the vibe of the May 23 release. Fans have already heard the first single of the same name, and in several recent interviews Gaga has given out a few facts about the songs that fans will hear on the highly anticipated release. While we wait for more, here’s a recap of what we know so far. In the latest issue of Vogue, Gaga revealed that the album’s next single is “Judas,” which producer RedOne has described as shocking. “The melody sounds like it was written for the Ronettes,” the Vogue writer comments. “But it is set to a sledgehammering dance beat and is about falling in love with backstabbing men of the biblical variety.” On Tuesday morning, Gaga confirmed to Carson Daly on Amp Radio that “Judas” will be the second single. “It’s about always falling in love with the wrong man over and over again,” she said. ” ‘Judas’ is a very very dark song. It’s rad.” She also told Vogue about another track on the record, “Americano,” describing it as “a big mariachi techno-house record, where I am singing about immigration law and gay marriage and all sorts of things that have to do with disenfranchised communities in America. … It sounds like a pop record, but when I sing it, I see Edith Piaf in a spotlight with an old microphone.” When Gaga called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Tuesday, she described the song “Government Hooker,” which is “one of my favorites” and “has more of a hip-hop beat,” she told Seacrest. “We double-timed the beat. It’s a super fast, really hard record, and the lyrics are really filthy. It’s also empowering, but more in the direction of sexual female empowerment.” On Seacrest, she teased the lyrics to another song, “Hair.” On it she sings, “This is my prayer that I’ll die living just as free as my hair.” “It’s really up-tempo. It’s a club record, but has a Bruce Springsteen vibe,” she explained. “It’s really interesting because it’s putting sax on a huge dance record.” She talked about “Hair” again when she visited New York radio station Z-100 . “Some of those themes are explored more on this album. To put my money where my mouth is [regarding themes of empowerment on this song and album].” She went on to describe the entire album as “eccentric” during the chat. Before we can hear anything new from Gaga, she did also reveal one new detail to Daly about the forthcoming video for “Born This Way,” which will be about “the birth of a new race within the race of humanity. The birth of a new race that doesn’t bear any prejudices. “I think the most important thing is that I continue to grow, and I knew when I put ‘BTW’ it would be a transitional moment, because it doesn’t sound like [my previous singles,” she said, adding that it is the “marijuana” to the “heroin” of the album and that it is a much lighter song than “Judas.” And for those who can’t wait, she had this to share while on Z-100, “I’m gonna be releasing about two to three songs before the album comes out on iTunes.” Related Videos Lady Gaga’s Grammy Night

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Video Is ‘Life Changing’

Choreographer Laurieanne Gibson opens up about Gaga’s vision for the song and video on ‘The Seven.’ By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images Following Lady Gaga’s performance of “Born This Way” at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, fans are wondering what they will see in the Nick Knight-directed music video for the feel-good disco track. “I can’t tell you, but I will tell you it is a life-changing experience,” Gaga’s choreographer Laurieanne Gibson said on MTV’s ” The Seven .” “You can expect the highest level of execution in vocal music art and dance … but you will be shocked.” She didn’t specify if the video would be an extension of Gaga’s performance of Sunday night, but she did go into further detail about what she and Gaga and the entire Haus of Gaga had in mind when conceiving the idea for the unusual take on the song. “Well, actually it’s a vessel. When Gaga played me the record, it took me quite some time to feel the direction and the inspiration, and when she played it for me two weeks later, I was like, ‘I think I got it.’ I said, ‘We have to birth a new race, a race that cannot hate.’ And, of course, as genius as she is, she runs with it.” Gaga revealed that she spent 72 hours inside the vessel, and Gibson explained that precautions were taken to make sure she’d be safe in there. “We made sure the Lady was not suffocating with an oxygen tank in there while incubating, checking her new DNA, which was producing this new race,” she explained. “This race does not give up and does not give in. “When you try to break this performance down, it minimizes the message,” she added. “It’s about the vocal performance while dancing the amazing choreography. It feels like a standalone dance piece, a standalone theatrical moment. The organ that was our church moment, our freeing moment, a call to arms.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

US sues BP over oil disaster

The US is suing BP and eight other firms for allegedly violating federal safety regulations in connection with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The lawsuit asks that they be held liable without limitation for all clean-up and damage costs. The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion in April killed 11 workers and spilled millions of barrels of oil over several months. The oil leak became the worst environmental disaster in US history. The lawsuit charges the companies under the US Clean Water Act and Oil Pollution Act. US Attorney General Eric Holder said the complaint alleges that “violations of safety and operational regulations” caused the 20 April explosion. The companies targeted in the lawsuit are BP Exploration and Production Inc, Anadarko Exploration & Production LP, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, MOEX Offshore 2007 LLC, Triton Asset Leasing GMBH, Transocean Holdings LLC, Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc, Transocean Deepwater Inc and QBE Underwriting Ltd/Lloyd's Syndicate 1036 – BP's insurer. The key accusations are: * Failing to take necessary precautions to keep the Macondo Well under control in the period leading up to the April 20th explosion * Failing to use the best available and safest drilling technology to monitor the well's conditions * Failing to maintain continuous surveillance * Failing to use and maintain equipment and material that were available and necessary to ensure the safety and protection of personnel, equipment, natural resources, and the environment Halliburton, the company that cemented the Macondo Well, and Cameron International, which provided equipment for the well, were not targeted in the lawsuit. But the Justice Department said on Wednesday that the investigation into the oil spill was ongoing and more defendants and charges could be added to the suit. “We intend to prove that these defendants are responsible for government removal costs, economic losses and environmental damages without limitation,” Mr Holder said. “As investigations continue, we will not hesitate to take whatever steps necessary to hold accountable those responsible for this spill,” Mr Holder added. Mr Holder did not specify a timetable in the lawsuit, instead saying the US would move as quickly as possible in the matter. Eleven workers on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig were killed by an explosion which followed, and hundreds of miles of coast were polluted before it was stemmed in July. added by: Jake_Leonard

Jimmy Carter’s Ready for a Gay President

Jimmy Carter is ready for a gay president — and he thinks America could stand behind one too. The former president told BigThink.com it may not happen in this coming election, but in the very near future, he thinks the country will see a gay president. He says he thinks Americans are making great strides toward accepting homosexuality. “Step-by-step, we have realized that this issue of homosexuality has the same adverse and progressive elements as when we dealt with the race issue 50 years ago — or 40 years ago.” He said with the country acclimated to having a black or female president, it's only a matter of time before it is ready for a gay one. added by: TimALoftis

Cyber theft of $200,000 from Gregg County TX tax

LONGVIEW, Texas — An East Texas county has halted electronic fund transfers after cyber hackers believed to be in Russia allegedly stole $200,000 in tax-related funds. The Longview News-Journal reported Tuesday that Gregg County, state and federal authorities are investigating. Tax assessor/collector Kirk Shields said Monday that local tax payments destined for schools and cities were hijacked. Shields says confirmation of Nov. 23 theft, discovered in progress and traced to a website in Moscow, has led to changes in the county's method for moving funds. Thieves use malicious software, known as malware, to infect the computers of unsuspecting users by e-mail. Shields says a county employee who mistakenly unleashed the virus has been suspended for violating cyber-security policy. Efforts continue to retrieve the funds and identify the hackers. ___ Online: http://www.co.gregg.tx.us/default.asp ___ added by: ras_menelik
