Rick Ross Buries Twitter Feud With ‘Fire’ Slim Thug Collabos

‘I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters,’ Ross tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Rick Ross says he didn’t fire shots. It was just a rap reference that he had no intention of putting out anyway. A couple of weeks ago, a track leaked to the mixtape circuit and the Internet labeled “King Boss.” Mr. Rozay rapped on the song, “She dated Slim Thug, but now she f— with me/ She finally made it to the biggest boss luckily.” Slim Thugger quickly took to his Twitter page with a question — and a retort. “WTF @rickyrozay is that a diss?” Slim wrote. “Just threw @rickyrozay cd out the roof of the coupe haters get no play in my ride.” Well, before things got too far out of hand, Ross and Thugger talked , hammered out the misunderstanding and actually banged out a couple of new, official songs. One of them, “Paid the Cost,” is out now. “First of all, I wanna salute the homie, Slim Thugga,” Ross said on Saturday in Los Angeles during the MTV VMA Radio Forum. “Maybe two weeks ago, a record had surfaced that I recorded before I even met Slim Thug. Just not knowing the dude and made the record and, after the fact, maybe four or five years later, the record leaked. He responded in a way that was totally understandable. What was funny about that situation is that Slim Thug is actually an artist that after I met him, embraced me and showed me the most love. The homie, Slim Thug, and I gotta salute the homie, Trae Tha Truth.” Ross said that Slim and Trae always roll out the red carpet for him when he goes to H-Town. “For a record to surface and me being a little slow on Twitter, I didn’t really peep it until two days later,” Ross continued. “When I found out about it and heard about it, they said I’m dissing Slim Thug. ‘What’s the name of the record? “King Boss”?’ he remembered asking. “I never had a record called ‘King Boss.’ I just left it alone. After the fact, [Slim] asked me about it. I told the homie, ‘Of course it ain’t nothing but love between me and you, big dawg.’ We got in the studio, later that night. The night we spoke. I emailed him something; shot him something, did something for his album. It’s fire. Then I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Slim Thug

Lady Gaga Talks VMA Meat Suit With Ellen DeGeneres

‘I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth,’ singer tells vegan talk-show host. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Last year, Lady Gaga made her VMA debut drenched in blood. But on Sunday night, picking up her eighth award of the evening, for Video of the Year, Gaga took the stage in an equally gory getup, reprising the controversial “meat suit” she wore on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan that drew fire from PETA. While the suit Gaga modeled at the show didn’t appear to contain any real cuts of meat (it was accessorized by meat boots, a meat hat and a meat purse she briefly handed to Cher while accepting the Moonman), the singer still felt it was necessary to explain her sartorial choice in order to clear up any controversy.

Taylor Swift’s All-Time Best VMA Moments

Since her debut just two years ago, Taylor Swift has had some memorable appearances at the big show. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift performs at the 2010 VMAs Photo: John Shearer/ Wireimage.com Taylor Swift made a triumphant return to the VMA stage on Sunday night with a new ballad, which may or may not be directed at Kanye West, off her forthcoming October release, Speak Now. Dressed in a strapless, beige dress, Swift spilled her guts and forgave someone for wronging her in the past. This wasn’t Swift’s first time at the VMA rodeo , though. Her beginnings trace all the way back to 2008, when she was nominated for Best New Artist for her unrequited love ballad “Teardrops on My Guitar.” And while Swift wouldn’t end up taking home a Moonman that year, she did get the honor of being a co-host at the pre-show , and went public with her then beau, Joe Jonas. Swift had a pretty easygoing 2008 VMAs compared to what went down the following year. In 2009, she hit the carpet in a stunning, Grecian-draped silver-sparkled dress and won Best Female Video. We all know how that turned out, but she didn’t let it get her down. Mere minutes after accepting the award, she performed her winning song, “You Belong With Me.” Decked out in a hot red dress, exuberantly belting out her hit in a moving subway and on top of a taxi cab in the middle of Manhattan, Swift stood outside the Radio City Music Hall and almost made everyone forget about what happened earlier that night. That brings us to the 2010 VMAs, when Swift once again hit the stage. This time Swift, who was up for Best Female Video again, played her captivating new tune, which still has no official title. In it she sings, “I guess you really did it this time/ Left yourself in your war path/ Lost your balance on a tightrope/ Lost your mind trying to get it back.” While many had hoped West and Swift would take the stage together, it wasn’t to be. Well, there’s always the 2011 VMAs. The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Steve-O Says ‘Jackass 3D’ Shows ‘Totally Different Me’

‘Being clear-headed and sober makes it more painful,’ he says of ‘scary’ stunts in flick previewing at Sunday’s VMAs. By Jocelyn Vena Steve-O Photo: MTV News Fans won’t have to wait until October 15 to get a taste of the mayhem set to take place in “Jackass 3D.” An exclusive clip from the flick will premiere during the MTV Video Music Awards , where the cast will also be presenting on Sunday. One of the movie’s stars, Steve-O, is super excited for fans to check out the preview. “I can’t wait. It’s going to be awesome. We made a great movie. Everybody’s gonna love it. People are gonna be waiting to see how being sober and filming ‘Jackass’ is different [for me],” he told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “Being clear-headed and sober makes it more painful, more scary and the first thing I say is, ‘I’m Steve-O, why do I have to be Steve-O?’ ” He wouldn’t get too specific about his favorite part of the movie, but Steve-O did note that the film starts with one very eye-catching scene. “I think that after the opening credits, like, the first scene that I’m in, I think it’s pretty great,” he said. “It’s just awesome. It’s a good movie.” While doing many of the painful stunts in “Jackass 3D” proved to be quite the challenge for a now-sober Steve-O , he was certainly up for it. “I was eager to do as much as I could. I, unlike Johnny Knoxville and some of the other guys, was feeling pretty sure I didn’t want to risk paralysis or death,” he joked. ‘Knoxville just needs to risk paralysis and death, but that being the case, I was really eager to get involved in as much stuff as I could, and I think I’m in this new movie more than either of the first two. It was a totally different me and it was a real blessing to do that.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. ‘American Idol’ Producer Simon Fuller Should Judge, Carly Smithson Says

‘It’s his show and he created it, and he’s a very, very intelligent, nice man,’ the season-seven contestant reasons. By Jocelyn Vena Carly Smithson Photo: MTV News Carly Smithson may not have had the pleasure of working with Kara DioGuardi or Ellen DeGeneres during her stint on “American Idol,” but the We Are the Fallen singer does have an idea about who should fill some of spaces left by them and Simon Cowell at the judges’ table next season. “I have always actually thought that [executive producer] Simon Fuller should be the replacement judge, ’cause it’s his show and he created it and he’s a very, very intelligent, nice man, but I have no idea,” the season-seven contestant told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “I mean, I had a pedicure with the producers the other day. The girls were all getting ready for the Emmys. They have no clue what’s going on. Only time will tell.” Smithson added that she feels fortunate to have been on the show when she was. “I was lucky to be a part of the original lineup,” she said. “That’s a very cool thing. I had the terrible three, Simon, Randy and Paula.” So, what does she think producers should be looking for in future judges? “I tried to kind of keep a tab on it. I was on tour while the show was on air, so I didn’t really get to see what Ellen was like. I love her as a talk-show host, but I wasn’t really sure how it was going to play out with music,” she said. “It’s hard. … The whole thing about the show is the fact that Simon is really rude, and I hope they can continue the show and find that magical kind of thing.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ miss ” American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Lady Gaga, Chelsea Handler Have VMA Fan In Natasha Bedingfield

Bedingfield sings the praises of friend Handler and former tourmate Gaga. By Jocelyn Vena Natasha Bedingfield Photo: MTV News When the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards kick off on Sunday, “Unwritten,” singer Natasha Bedingfield will be rooting for two of her pals, nominee Lady Gaga and VMA host Chelsea Handler . Bedingfield isn’t placing any bets on how many Moonmen the 13-time nominated Gaga will take home, but she says her former tourmate deserves her latest accolades. “I was on tour with Lady Gaga two years ago, and I got to know her a bit, and she’s just fantastic. So, I hope that she wins for one of them, at least, ’cause that’s cool,” Bedingfield told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “She was opening for me and New Kids on the Block on the road. It was awesome! We were just two girls going around going to different states in America.” While Gaga will certainly have everyone talking by the water cooler on Monday, Bedingfield thinks that Handler will have everyone hoping for a return performance at next year’s show. “[Chelsea] will have to have a lot of outfits too! I love her so much. She’s going to be amazing. She’ll probably be the best one you guys have ever had I think,” Bedingfield said. “She’s just amazing. I love her, and she’s always very honest, and I appreciate that, because there’s always a lot of people who kiss your ass all the time in this business. And it’s just nice to be with someone you just feel comfortable with and you know they’re not going to blow smoke.” So, what is it like to be friends with the sassy comedian? “She’s funny. She lets other people be funny. I think that’s how you can tell someone is, like, comfortable with themselves,” she said. “They don’t mind people being funny and them being quiet, and sometimes she’ll be the funny one.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Host Talks ‘Crazy Lineup’

‘The Situation has a lot of charm,’ Brooke Burke says. ‘I think we’re going to see a lot abs!’ By Jocelyn Vena Brooke Burke Photo: MTV News When “Dancing With the Stars” kicks off later this month, it will star two of MTV’s most recognizable faces, “The Hills” alum Audrina Patridge and “Jersey Shore” ‘s very own the Situation . The show’s host, Brooke Burke, admits that she’s excited to see how light on their feet the reality-TV stars are. “I think they both have a lot going for them,” she told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday (September 10). “I know Audrina is going to look amazing. She looks the part already. She’s gonna get out on the ballroom and look so beautiful and elegant. Can she dance? I have no idea.” While Burke is equally unsure about the Sitch’s dancing experience, she does think he’ll impress the audience with his stage presence. “The Situation has a lot of charm and he’s got courage and I think he’s going to be fun to watch,” she said. “And I think he’s going to have fun doing the show, and I’ve always said that’s a huge part of it.” The Situation, however, may find himself having to play catch-up since he’s starting rehearsals later than everyone else as the “Jersey Shore” was filming its third season. “He has such a disadvantage because he’s not able to rehearse for the full month,” the host said. “But [his partner], Karina [Smirnoff], is amazing and she’s a powerhouse and she’s really tough, so if anybody can get him show-premiere ready, Karina can do it. I think we’re going to see a lot abs!” Burke added that fans shouldn’t just be amped for Situation and Audrina — the entire “DWTS” lineup is impressive. “I think it’s a crazy lineup. It’s anybody’s game right now,” she said. “No one has dance experience. I love this season because it’s totally unpredictable. Everybody’s talking about the Situation. I don’t know: We got Rick Fox competing against Kurt Warner, two athletes. I think Kurt Warner has an amazing Cinderella story. Jennifer Grey, you know she’s going to bring back the ‘Dirty Dancing.’ It’s kind of a crazy cast. It’s a good eclectic mix.” Who are you most excited to see on “DWTS”? Tell us in the comments!

Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj And More VMA Virgins

Sunday is a big night for these first-time nominees and performers. By Kelley L. Carter Justin Bieber Photo: Robyn Beck/ Getty Images Be gentle with these guys — it’s their first time as nominees or performers at the MTV Video Music Awards . (She also did the background vocals on Flo Rida’s ubiquitous “Right Round.”) The singer is up for Best New Artist, and she’ll present an award Sunday. “This is such a monumental thing for me to be nominated, because it really means people do really like what I’m doing,” she said. Washington Post/MSNBC’s Robinson Plagiarizes Peter Jennings on Electorate’s ‘Temper Tantrum’

The late Peter Jennings, shortly after the Republicans took control of Congress in 1994: “Imagine a nation full of uncontrolled two-year-old rage. The voters had a temper tantrum last week.” Washington Post Associate Editor Eugene Robinson , a frequent guest analyst on MSNBC, in his Friday column on polls showing voters will throw out Democrats, again, in November: “This isn’t an ‘electoral wave,’ it’s a temper tantrum.” More Jennings from 1994: “Parenting and governing don’t have to be dirty words: the nation can’t be run by an angry two-year-old.” And more from Robinson this year: “The American people are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.” James Taranto highlighted the similarities in his Friday “Best of the Web Today ” for the Wall Street Journal’s online opinion page. Then-ABC World News Tonight anchor Peter Jennings in his daily ABC Radio commentary of November 14, 1994, the winner of the “ Sore Losers Award (for Midterm Election Reporting) ” in the MRC’s “ The Best Notable Quotables of 1994: The Seventh Annual Awards for the Year’s Worst Reporting .” Some thoughts on those angry voters. Ask parents of any two-year-old and they can tell you about those temper tantrums: the stomping feet, the rolling eyes, the screaming. It’s clear that the anger controls the child and not the other way around. It’s the job of the parent to teach the child to control the anger and channel it in a positive way. Imagine a nation full of uncontrolled two-year-old rage. The voters had a temper tantrum last week….Parenting and governing don’t have to be dirty words: the nation can’t be run by an angry two-year-old. Robinson’s September 3 column, “ The spoiled-brat American electorate ,” began: According to polls, Americans are in a mood to hold their breath until they turn blue. Voters appear to be so fed up with the Democrats that they’re ready to toss them out in favor of the Republicans — for whom, according to those same polls, the nation has even greater contempt. This isn’t an “electoral wave,” it’s a temper tantrum. Later: But there’s no mistaking the public mood, and the truth is that it makes no sense. In the punditry business, it’s considered bad form to question the essential wisdom of the American people. But at this point, it’s impossible to ignore the obvious: The American people are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.

Alleged Comedian Lizz Winstead Fantasizes It Would Be ‘Awesome!’ to Electrocute Glenn Beck

Give the woman credit — liberals are seldom this candid about their impulse toward totalitarianism. Usually it takes a bit of prodding before you’ll hear that voice of the guard in the gulag. Lizz Winstead, co-founder of The Daily Show and alumna of the late, hardly lamented Air America Radio, revealed her pathological side while appearing on Ed Schultz’s radio show yesterday, as described by Brian Maloney over at The Radio Equalizer — WINSTEAD: Ed, I’ve always wished that somebody would invent, maybe you and I could go into business and do this, if somebody would invent, you know those shock collars that you put on the dog? (Schultz laughs) That when they bark they get jarred? If we could make one that actually fact-checked and we just put it around Glenn Beck’s neck and when he spoke (pause), or just fake tears, if it could detect when tears were actually crocodile tears, and then you just get electrocuted by the water and jarred, like, that would be awesome! Force him to wear it. “Always” wished for that, have you, Lizz? Two words come to mind — Nurse Ratched . Any relation?
