Catholic church feels threatened by “Avatar”

The Vatican newspaper and radio station have called the film “Avatar” simplistic, and criticized it for flirting with modern doctrines that promote the worship of nature as a substitute for religion. But the reviews were lukewarm, calling the movie superficial in its eco-message, despite groundbreaking visual effects

By Shaheem Reid Shawty Redd in police custody on New Year’s Day Photo: Henry County Sheriff’s Office Producer Shawty Redd , who is charged with the New Year’s Day murder of 35-year-old Damon Martin, was released from jail on Tuesday (January 12), according to Captain Jason Bolton of the Henry County (Georgia) Police and a representative for the Henry County Superior Court Clerk. The producer (real name: Demetrius Lee Stewart), who has worked with Snoop Dogg and Young Jeezy, had his bail set at $200,000 at a hearing on Tuesday afternoon, the authorities said, and was given clear instructions not to leave Henry County and to wear an ankle bracelet

One of 2009’s top-selling artists will be taking her act to Australia, Japan and Europe for a series of dates beginning and February and lasting a few months. Before that, though, the dynamic Lady Gaga will be at Radio City Music Hall to conclude the current segment her tour with four shows starting January 20.
