Steve Carell’s Final Episode Of ‘The Office’ Is ‘Emotional, Funny’

‘It sends Michael off in a good way,’ director Paul Feig reveals to MTV News of bumbling Dunder Mifflin boss. By Kara Warner Steve Carell Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Ever since Steve Carell announced his plans to leave “The Office,” his fans and fellow castmates have been lamenting the impending departure of Michael Scott, the bumbling Scranton, Pennsylvania-based boss Carell has made famous over the course of seven seasons. But no matter how loud the protests or how many tears are shed, the end has come. According to frequent director Paul Feig, Carell and Co. filmed Michael Scott’s last episode of “The Office” last week. “It’s exactly what you would want it to be,” Feig told MTV News at the PaleyFest reunion event for his cult-favorite TV show, “Freaks and Geeks.” “It’s emotional, but it’s funny. It’s just a really nice mix and it sends Michael off in a good way. I’m thrilled with it,” he added. “I think fans of the show will be really happy with it.” Speaking to that emotional aspect, Feig went on to say that there were plenty of tears shed on set. “Half the time we were bawling and half the time we were trying not to laugh and ruin takes,” he admitted, adding that the presence of Will Ferrell helped keep things from getting too weepy. “The hilarity index is up even higher,” he said. Bored? Academy Launches Oscar Countdown

Leave it to AMPAS to supplement your winter workplace malaise with its new Oscar Countdown, a procrastination-friendly feature recounting all 82 Academy Award ceremonies — one day at a time until the 83rd annual ritual next February. Fun fact from the first show: “270 people attended the event, mostly Academy members. Guests of members were invited to attend at a slight charge of $5 to their hosts.” That would be $63.95 in 2010 dollars. What a deal, or something. [ Oscars.org ]

How Three Veteran Series Got Their Groove Back

The best part about the holiday season — besides the fact that it is the holiday season; suck it, hattterrrrrsssssss — is that the fall television season has basically come to an end. By this time next week, most of your favorite shows will have shuffled off until January (or longer in the case of Boardwalk Empire and The Walking Dead ) when they’ll return to warm your lonely winter evenings. In honor of this quickly approaching television service outage, it feels appropriate to remind you about a few veteran shows you might have removed from the DVR list. Don’t worry, though: There’s always time to catch up over Christmas.

Video: Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page Take Crime-Fighting too Far in New Clip from Super

It turns out that we do in fact need another ultra-violent satire of comic book movies. I’m not sure how many people would have argued this before the Toronto Film Festival, but after the buzzed-about midnight premiere of James Gunn’s Super and the immediate sale that followed, it seems like a pretty safe assumption. Now, those of us who aren’t at the festival can get a first look with this new clip from the film.

IFC is SUPER

As predicted after its raucous, well-received Toronto premiere, James Gunn’s SUPER emerged from a bidding war this weekend with a new distributor. Not quite as predicted, that buyer was IFC Films, which will release the twisted, Rainn Wilson-starring, hero-with-a-wrench splatter-comedy via its new IFC Midnight banner. It’s the first sale of a film this year during the festival proper, with more expected to follow in the days ahead. Stay tuned here for details as events warrant… [ IFC Films ]
