Taylor Swift To Perform New Single On CMA Special In September

Swift will sing ‘Mine,’ from her upcoming Speak Now album. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images Fans might be anxiously awaiting the October 25 release of Taylor Swift’s new album, Speak Now , but they shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to hear Swift perform the album’s first single, “Mine.” Swift is expected to perform the track on the TV special “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock.” Swift secretly taped the show last month in Nashville when she was performing at the CMA Music Festival, according to People.com . The special, which will be hosted by Tim McGraw, will air on September 1 on ABC. Other performers scheduled to appear include Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley and Reba McEntire. Swift has been busy as of late prepping for the release of the album, a follow-up to her highly successful album Fearless . The video for “Mine” has been shot, with British actor Toby Hemingway playing Swift’s love interest in the clip and Swift donning a wedding dress. As for the song, Swift has said it’s all about her love life. “It’s been sort of a recent tendency, and I think it’s because, for me, every really direct example of love that I’ve had in front of me has ended in goodbye and ended in breakups and things like that. So I think I’ve developed this pattern of running away when it comes time to fall in love and stay in a relationship. The song is sort of about finding the exception to that and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out, because I’m never, ever going to go past hoping that love works out,” she explained. Like the song, the new album will have a theme. “For me, I write everything that I live, so you’ve got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things. And my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived. So thankfully, in the past two years, I’ve experienced a lot of things that I’ve been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn’t,” she explained. “I’ve been working on it for two years, so ever since we put out Fearless, I’ve been writing for this record and sort of conceptualizing it and putting it together in my head and sort of figuring out what I want it to be,” she added. “I like to take a lot of time in between albums to work up the next one and see what it is.” Related Artists Taylor Swift

Jay DeMarcus wife Allison pregnant

“I’m most looking forward to making wonderful memories — the first days of school, summertime with them, taking them to Disney World. I’m ready to be a father!” Come January, Rascal Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus’s house will get little louder — and he can’t wait. “I’m looking forward to hearing the pitter-patter of little feet around the house and all of that wonderful stuff,” DeMarcus tells us after sharing the news that he and wife Allison — a presenter on CMT and a former Miss Tennessee — are

Shakira Unveils ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’

Track is the official song of the 2010 World Cup and will benefit public health centers in Africa. By James Montgomery Photo: JEWEL SAMAD/ AFP/ Getty Images Fresh off her duet with Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox on Wednesday night’s “American Idol” , Shakira has unveiled yet another collaboration … this one set to take place on an even bigger stage (yes, that’s actually possible). On her official site , she’s just posted a track called “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which will serve as the official theme for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, set to kick off June 11 in South Africa. The track — a collabo between Shaki and South African Afro-fusion band Freshlyground — was co-produced by John Hill, who most recently produced a pair of songs from her 2009 album She Wolf. Like much of her work, it’s a poly-sonic affair: According to a statement on her site, the chorus of the song borrows from a favorite Cameroonian marching chant that was popularized by the group Golden Voices. Shakira and Freshlyground will perform “Waka Waka” at the World Cup closing ceremonies, held before the final match on July 11 in Johannesburg Soccer City Stadium. The song will be available for download through digital retailers the week of May 11, and will also be included on Listen Up! The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album, set to be released the week of May 31 by Sony Music Entertainment. A Spanish-language version of the track will also be available. Proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit FIFA’s “20 Centers for 2010” initiative, which aims to achieve positive social change through football (that’s “soccer” to us Americans) by building 20 “Football for Hope” public health centers across Africa. In addition to her performance at the closing ceremonies, Shakira will also be one of the headline performers at the official FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration Concert on June 10, broadcast from Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg South Africa. A video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” is also set to debut in mid-May. American Idol Shocker: Goodbye, Siobhan Magnus

We ranked her second after Tuesday night’s performance show , but American Idol viewers had a different idea about Siobhan Magnus: They actually voted out this eccentric singer yesterday, cutting season nine down to five finalists. While it’s true Magnus could rely too much on hitting glory notes, and certainly talked back too much to the judges, at least she brought something unique to the Idol table. With the exception of Crystal Bowersox , can that really be said about anyone remaining? Equally as surprising as Siobhan’s elimination? She was joined in the bottom three by Casey James and Michael Lynche. We’d love for someone to tell us how Aaron Kelly avoided that fate. At least Shakira performed last night. She and her hips always make us happy. She was joined on stage bu Rascal Flatts, and Sons of Sylvia also played for viewers. Check them all out below, and bid farewell to Magnus now…

Sons Of Sylvia: From ‘Next Great American Band’ To ‘American Idol’

The trio, previously known as the Clark Brothers, have opened for Carrie Underwood on her current tour. By Gil Kaufman Sons of Silvia’s Ashley Clark performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: Fox Shakira, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum and Sons of Sylvia — wait, who? Millions of Americans could be forgiven if they weren’t familiar with the handsome brotherly trio who performed on Wednesday night’s (April 28) “American Idol” elimination show, where Siobhan Magnus got the boot. But if you’ve been paying attention for the past three years, you might just recognize brothers Ashley, Austin and Adam Clark. They’ve been opening for good pal Carrie Underwood — who helicoptered in from her tour just to introduce them on “Idol” — on her current tour, and they played backup in her touring band right after she won season four. They were also the winners of the first and only season of “Idol” spinoff “The Next Great American Band,” back when they were known as the Clark Brothers. After years of trying to make it in Nashville and Hollywood, that win landed them a contract with Interscope Records and a management deal with 19 Entertainment, which explains how they landed on “Idol.” Kind of. “We never tried out for ‘Idol,’ but we’ve been watching it all the time and … man, it’s like a dream, we were so pumped,” said guitarist Austin, 26, the youngest of the trio, who are three of 11 kids born to their preacher parents. (Yes, their mom’s name is Sylvia.) The band of brothers performed their debut single, “Love Left to Lose,” from their just-released debut album, Revelation, on “Idol,” and Austin said the experience was a mind-blower. The tune mixed straightforward radio rock with country touches, including fiddle, mandolin and rocked-out resonator guitar over a thudding backbeat. The swirly, urgent rock ballad was co-written and produced by the boys’ second cousin and good pal, OneRepublic hitmaker Ryan Tedder, who gave it his signature wide-open, yearning sound and instantly alluring hooks. “I can’t believe it’s happening,” Austin said of their rocket ride to fame after years of hard work. “It feels like a childhood dream as far as: start a band, get a record out and being on tour. All of this is actually happening. I wake up every day baffled.” Though they’ve had reality-show experience, Austin said pre-taping their “Idol” performance was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “It’s surreal up there,” he said. “You see the big ‘American Idol’ logo, things are spinning around. [I was thinking] ‘I’ve watched the show and now it’s my turn.’ You’re just thinking about not screwing up.” Though they didn’t have a chance to meet any of this year’s finalists — and haven’t really had time to watch the show since they’re busy on the road with Underwood — Austin said it was probably a good thing the judges weren’t around when they visited the set. “If Simon would have critiqued us, we would have been nervous!” What did you think of Sons of Sylvia’s performance? Shakira’s ‘Gypsy’ Gets A Boost From Rascal Flatts On ‘American Idol’

Singer plays the harmonica, harmonizes with Gary LeVox for free-sprit performance. By Katie Byrne Shakira performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: Fox Shakira busted out her best Stevie Nicks ensemble during “American Idol” to perform her new single, “Gypsy,” with a little help from Rascal Flatts. The free-spirit singer — wearing a sparkly tank top, dangling earrings and a floor-length brown skirt — started the song out on harmonica. During the first verse, she was joined by some interpretive backup dancers and even threw in some moves herself. Rascal Flatts singer Gary LeVox then chimed in with backing vocals. As the pair harmonized, they headed to a platform behind the “Idol” judges and Shakira showed off some of her trademark hip-swiveling. She even pulled the harmonica back out to close up the song. After the performance, host Ryan Seacrest said what most of the viewers were probably thinking: “Gary LeVox and Shakira — I never thought I’d see that!” He also had a tough question for the Flatts frontman: “What was it like to move your hips with her?” “I recommend to him to wear a skirt, but he refused,” Shakira chimed in. Rascal Flatts kicked off the “Idol” elimination episode by performing their new single, “Unstoppable,” in place of a top-six group number. Back in February, Shakira released a steamy video for “Gypsy” starring Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal. The video, like the song paired with it, has a much more organic vibe than other tracks from Shakira’s 2009 album She Wolf. Directed by frequent Shakira collaborator Jaume de Laiguana, the video tells a love story that plays out on a desert backdrop. It’s an ideal setting for the romance between the smiling Shakira and her often-shirtless tennis pro to unfold. What did you think of Shakira’s collaboration with Rascal Flatts?
