Rick Ross Responds To Latest Grammy Snub

Miami MC congratulates nominees, and says ‘it’s just something else for me to work towards.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Audrey Kim Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Although he’s been passed over by the Grammys for the second consecutive year, Rick Ross is taking his latest snub in stride. The Miami lyricist was shut out of this year’s nominations, despite the success of the certified-gold release Teflon Don and street smashes like “(B.M.F.) Blowin’ Money Fast” and “MC Hammer.” When MTV News caught up with the MC at Power 106 ‘s Cali Christmas Friday night, the boss maintained he doesn’t have any beef with the Recording Academy, and gave props to his peers who received nods. “Everybody that was nominated this year for the Grammys, I congratulate them, and I feel like everyone deserve it,” Ross said. Despite being overlooked for the second year in a row , Ross shrugged off the issue, saying that snatching a trophy is another goal he could focus on — if he felt like doing so. “As far as me, I feel like it’s just something else for me to work towards, you know, if that’s something that I’m really, really trying to achieve,” Ross added. The “Super High” spitter chose to instead focus on the banner 2010 he’s wrapping up, which includes a #2 debut for Teflon, collaborations with a colorful lineup of game-changers from Kanye West to Erykah Badu , a top-five Hottest MCs ranking and The Source magazine’s Man of the Year title. “Other than that, I had a wonderful year and I really couldn’t ask for no more,” Ross said. While Ross was a major player in the rap game this year, missing out on trophies has become a recurring theme for the mic-ripper, who briefly stirred up controversy after reportedly left the 2010 Soul Train Awards early after losing an award to Eminem. However, Ross maintained that his premature exit was due to issues with the event’s production and not his loss to Em. “I been going to award shows for a long time and I’ve never had a problem with who won. I’m happy I’m recognized,” Ross recently told The Source. “We were in the trailer, going over these particular [performance] issues [with the show’s producers]. Out of respect, we came back out there to give them a reaction to the nomination. They gave the award to Eminem. I applauded. Big record. That wasn’t the issue. Like I said, the things we requested weren’t met.” What do you think of Rick Ross getting passed over for a Grammy nomination? Let us know in the comments! Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj Recall Collaborating For ‘Bottoms Up’

The stars chat on Ustream about making the track, promising a video and live performances together soon. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj recently dropped the rollicking, bass-heavy collaboration “Bottoms Up” and the stars wasted no time hitting the web to chat about how the duo hooked up. Hours after sites posted the song from Songz’ upcoming Passion, Pain & Pleasure album, the singer spoke directly to fans on Tuesday from his Ustream page about the track. After conferencing in Minaj, who was at work in the studio, they broke down the whirlwind creation of the song. “I’m in L.A. for BET [Awards] weekend, I’m working on a couple records, and I do this song called ‘Red Lipstick,’ and then I do ‘Bottoms Up’ the next day,” Trey recalled of his recording session. “I hit Nicki and I’m like, ‘Man, I’ve got these two incredible records, I think one of them is gonna be my first single, and I need you to do it. Can you come this weekend? Can you come down?’ “I stayed a couple extra days and she came through,” he said. “Two, three days later I got a verse back that was just stupid.” Songz then addressed the MC directly and said, “I fell in love with you. When I heard the verse, I was like, ‘Oh my s—, I love her. She killed it.’ ” Minaj chimed in and noted that fans had been waiting for the stars to team up. “Every day, people say, ‘When you gonna collaborate with Trey?’ For some strange reason they wanted to see that collaboration,” Minaj said. “So, when you hit me, I was very excited. I just thought, ‘This is our time.’ ” While breaking down her side of the recording process, Minaj revealed that she paid special attention to her verse. “I lived with it,” she explained. “I kept on hitting you like, ‘I’mma have it done today.’ I think I did live with it for, like, three days because I was changing it up, I couldn’t get it. But then, all of a sudden, something just hit me.” Her animated delivery brings boatloads of swagger to the track, but Minaj said she had some doubts at first, admitting that she almost dropped a line where she mimics the loopy, breathy speech of Anna Nicole Smith. “I was gonna take that part out because I was like, ‘Trey is gonna think I’m crazy,’ ” she said. But in the end, Minaj was cool with how the verse came together. “I’m just happy that I was able to do something that kinda kept that energy up,” enthused the MC, who also attributed her juiced-up flow to her rap alter ego, Roman Zolanski. “Roman is very spastic. Roman is crazy and Roman is weird and Roman doesn’t care. … The person on [DJ Khaled’s] ‘All I Do Is Win’ remix, that’s Nicki, and the person on ‘Bottoms Up,’ that’s Roman.” The pair also discussed shooting the song’s accompanying video, for which Songz said he had already drafted a treatment and roped in video director Anthony Mandler. And the duo also chatted about hitting the stage together sometime soon. “I can’t wait ’til the first time we perform it somewhere,” Songz said. “It’s gotta be a big moment,” Minaj insisted. Songz agreed: “Yeah, it’s gonna be a big moment.” What do you think of Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj’s “Bottoms Up”? Share your reviews in the comments. Mel Gibson Threatens to Kill Oksana Grigorieva, Admits Beating Her in Terrifying New Tape

The tape of Mel Gibson’s racist, misogynistic tirade leaked a few days ago already proved what a disturbed guy he is, but we held out hope that at least Oksana Grigorieva’s claim of him physically assaulting her was not true. Not only is it true, he threatened to do it again … and worse. In a new eight-minute audiotape so vulgar and shocking it defies comphrension, Mel admits to hitting Oksana, says she deserved it and threatens her further. This recording makes the previous Mel Gibson rant look tame. Mel’s deeply disturbing remarks on the tape, which you can listen to after the jump (it is extremely upsetting) could be a powerful piece of evidence against him in the criminal investigation that is being conducted by the authorities. Mel Gibson needs serious help. Now. Rambling and so enraged that he’s gasping for air, Mel pants heavily in between vile insults on the tape, at times nearly incapable of speaking. It’s not an exaggeration to call this the most bizarre, infamous celebrity meltdown in history. Equally strange? That Oksana remains perfectly calm throughout, presumably because she’s taping it. Not that Mel’s conduct is in any way justified, but there are no words to describe this … no one should ever be THAT worked up. What could have happened to trigger this kind of rage? In any case, the tape, if legitimate, which it certainly appears to be after we’ve listened to it twice, the tape is not only big trouble for Mel in the domestic violence investigation , but for his career prospects. It’s that bad. It’s so much worse than you think, we can’t come close to doing it justice, but you can listen to the entire tirade here if you can stomach it … Mel Gibson Threatens Oksana Grigorieva

Mel Gibson Rant: Leaked, Profoundly Disturbing

Mel Gibson’s alleged racist tirade directed at Oksana Grigorieva is no longer alleged – the audio has been leaked, and it’s even more disturbing than you think. The enraged star can be heard below unleashing a profane, sexist rant against the mother of his baby daughter, using the N-word and other derogatory phrases. Gibson accuses his ex-girlfriend of lying about fake breasts and trying to breastfeed eight-month-old Lucia, saying she dresses like … we can’t even repeat it. Previous reports about Mel Gibson’s racist tirade couldn’t do justice to the hatred in his voice as his rage builds to increasingly palpable levels. It’s kind of scary. Whether or not he physically attacked Oksana remains unclear, but when you listen to the recording below, you won’t find that allegation hard to believe either. Be forewarned, the language Mel uses is extremely vile … Mel Gibson Rant Sick. That these words and phrases even exist in the vocabulary of any person is deeply upsetting. What an absolute lowlife and disgrace to humanity .

Lady Gaga’s Grammy Snub Prompts Rule Change

The Recording Academy will allow previous nominees to be eligible for Best New Artist. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga Photo: Kristian Dowling/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s wildly successful entry into the music scene actually hampered her chances of scoring a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist this year because of the Recording Academy’s previous eligibility guidelines. Although Gaga had a major 2009, following the chart-topping success of her debut album The Fame , her earlier nod for Best Dance Recording for “Just Dance” barred the star from being considered for Best New Artist at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. In light of the Gaga situation, the Recording Academy has announced that artists who have received previous nominations may still be eligible for the Best New Artist trophy. “If an artist/group is nominated (but does not win) for the release of a single or as a featured artist or collaborator on a compilation or other artist’s album before the artist/group has released an entire album (and becomes eligible in this category for the first time), the artist/group may enter this category in the eligibility year during which his/her/their first album is released,” the academy said in a statement . The academy also acknowledged that the changes reflect the fact that many artists appear as featured guests on hit singles before releasing a full-length debut. “More and more, the first release of a new artist is as a featured artist on someone else’s album, or the new artist may release a single long before the release of his/her/their entire first album. By current rules, if the other artist’s album or the new artist’s single receives a nomination, the new artist may never have the opportunity to compete in the Best New Artist category,” the statement continued. “With this change, each artist will have at least one opportunity to enter in this important and highly visible category.” According to The Associated Press , academy President Neil Portnow acknowledged that the Gaga oversight was a factor in changing the eligibility requirements. “There will be some changes so that particular situation won’t repeat itself,” Portnow said. The changes will immediately go into effect and will be reflected in the nominations for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011. Miley Cyrus Received Hate Mail On Twitter

Cyrus cancelled her Twitter account after her tweets about gay marriage invited negative criticism. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Although Miley Cyrus deleted her Twitter account last fall, it still seems to be a hot topic of discussion as she makes the rounds promoting her latest flick, “The Last Song.” She said that one of the reasons she left the social-networking site is because she believes the Internet “wastes your life,” and in a new interview, she admits that some of the things she said in her tweets angered people. “There has been so much controversy sometimes about what I’ve said or done because I believe there are no mistakes, because God is the only one who can judge us,” Cyrus told Parade magazine. “That’s the reason I deleted my Twitter account because I said on there that I believed in gay marriage because everyone should have the right to love each other, and I got such hate mail about my being a bad person.” She also reveals in the interview that she isn’t a fan of the paparazzi that follow her around at all times. “The other day I felt a little bit in danger for the first time because there were too many photographers following me in too many cars. And I have to ask myself, ‘Why would any other 50-year-old man who was stalking a 17-year-old girl go to jail, but not these guys? I’m not as American as anyone else?’ ” she said. “I mean, they couldn’t sit outside of a high school but they can sit outside my recording studio. It’s creepy.” Cyrus said she doesn’t think she’d ever make country music because she thinks it would require her to act as “sweet as pie,” and that she recently became a fan of Lady Gaga. “I love her. She’s really smart. I caught her on ‘Oprah’ and she was really chill. I used to be like, yeah, I guess she’s talented but how much is she really singing. But I’ve become a convert. She has to be smart to come up with all her gags and the stuff she comes up with. She gets it. She knows exactly what she’s doing,” she explained, adding, “It’s like Dolly Parton. Dolly plays up that I’m-a-cute-dumb-blonde but, believe me, she’s not dumb. She’s sitting on a ba-jillion dollars.” Related Artists Miley Cyrus
