‘Bad Teacher’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Before signing up for Cameron Diaz’s class, study up with our fun facts. By Eric Ditzian Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake in “Bad Teacher” Photo: Sony It’s been more than a month since “Bridesmaids” slayed us at the cinema. We’re desperately in need of some hard-R laughs, a few gross-out moments that make us cringe, and the reminder that as crazy as we might be, we’re not nearly as loco as the folks we’re watching onscreen. Thus, we say thanks to “Bad Teacher” as it floats, on a comedic cloud of profanity and penis jokes, into theaters. Cameron Diaz stars as Elizabeth Halsey, an educator less concerned with math lessons than she is in smoking pot and calculating her way into marriage with any filthy-rich doofus. She meets the perfect mark in Justin Timberlake’s Scott Delacorte, a substitute teacher and a guy so freaking nice there’s got be something wrong with him. And then we have Jason Segel’s sly gym teacher; even though he’s got the hots for Halsey, his paycheck doesn’t have nearly enough digits to entice the leggy blonde. But all this is just the setup. The punch comes in a series of outlandish events that, if we were to reveal them here, would just spoil the fun. What we can do is tell you everything you need to know about “Bad Teacher” before hitting the multiplex this weekend. That’s where our cheat sheet comes into play. Getting Ready for Class News of the film, penned by “Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, broke in December of 2009. Diaz had signed on , but the rest of the cast had yet to be filled out. That changed a few months later, when Timberlake and Segel hopped aboard . Though Diaz had formerly dated JT, the actress had no qualms about stepping in front of the camera with him. “He’s the best person for the job. He’s going to be hilarious,” she said. “He’s clearly a very talented comedian; look at his ‘Saturday Night Live’ [skits]. He’s fantastic. He’s going to be so great.” School’s in Session Filming kicked off in March. Nearly a year later, a truly filthy red-band trailer popped up online, giving us a very clear idea of how truly terrible a teacher Diaz would be: “Are you f—ing kidding me?” she writes on a student’s test. While the comedy’s raunchiness was no surprise, Timberlake’s weirdo of a sub certainly was. As Diaz later explained to us , “He gives us a character that you have not seen yet before — not just him, but pretty much anyone. It’s just a very interesting character and a lot of fun to watch. By the end of it, you’re like, ‘What is up with that dude?’ It’s hilarious.” The Final Exam As part of our Summer Movie Preview Week, we debuted an exclusive photo of Diaz getting ready for a fundraising car wash unlike any that you might recall from your school days and also sat down for a chat with the woman herself. “She’s miserable. She’s not happy with her world, and she doesn’t pretend that she is,” Diaz said of her character. “Her pain is real. She’s living a very painful existence, so there’s no humor to her in this.” Sure, she’s a woman in pain. But there’s also something liberating about the way she just doesn’t give a hoot about anything. “I think that’s why people love Elizabeth,” Diaz told us at the film’s premiere in New York City. “It’s because everyone wants to be her, even for an hour, maybe a day. If you get away with a week — oh my gosh! I got to play her for six weeks. So yeah, it was a lot of fun.” “The first 30 pages, I’m like, ‘I am not playing this. There is no way I can play this character. There [are] no redeeming qualities to this character,’ ” she recalled of the script in an earlier chat. “And by the end of it, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is genius! There’s no redeeming qualities to this character!’ We got to the end of the script, and we’re not apologizing for anything she said. It’s a very modest arc.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Bad Teacher.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Shia LaBeouf Explains His Kid Cudi Connection

‘Transformers’ star says he ended up directing Cudi’s ‘Maniac’ and ‘Marijuana’ videos because of mutual friend Cage. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shia LaBeouf Photo: MTV News From the outside looking in, the friendship and working partnership that actor Shia LaBeouf and rapper Kid Cudi have established recently seems only slightly unlikely. However, upon closer examination of Cudi’s track record in working with Hollywood types, and LaBeouf’s relationship with “Maniac” featured performer Cage, their collaborations on two of Cudi’s videos, “Maniac” and “Marijuana,” isn’t that unexpected. When MTV News caught up with LaBeouf recently as he promoted “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” we asked the aspiring director how the Cudi/Cage/LaBeouf magic began with music, and how it ended with a trip to Amsterdam’s infamous Cannabis Cup. “[Cage] is one of my good friends. Cage, Chris Palko, and I had been trying to make a movie about him for a while,” LaBeouf explained. “Cudi hit [Cage] up and did a song with him. Cage sent me the song, called ‘Maniac,’ so initially, we started prepping this video, which is really like a short horror movie that I made that comes out on Halloween,” he said. “In the interim, while we were finishing up the effects on it, [Cudi] told me he was going to Amsterdam for the Cannabis Cup.” LaBeouf jumped at the chance to continue working with Cudi, and joked that a trip to the legendary land where cannabis is legal was too good to pass up. “It’s as big as Spielberg,” he said with a laugh. “It is for a 25-year-old male who has all these crazy fantasies about Amsterdam, which every male my age has, there’s that college trip you always want to take,” he admitted. “And to do that with Cudi when he’s a judge, and I get to roll with him with my 8mm camera [like] an ‘Easy Rider’ documentarian, I felt like Cameron Crowe or something.” Despite all the references to the drug, that trip and the clip that came from it are Cudi’s send-off to smoking weed. “It was almost like an R.I.P. video to my whole smoking career,” Cudi told MTV News of the “Marijuana” clip earlier this month. Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ Video: A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet

From Greek mythology to mid-’90s Tool albums, Brit’s latest is full of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. By James Montgomery Britney Spears fights herself in “Hold It Against Me” Photo: Jive On Thursday night, after weeks of teasing, Britney Spears finally revealed her video for “Hold It Against Me,” a whirling, swirling dance explosion that features plenty of sass, swagger and exactly one flowing white gown. It also features plenty of nods to pop music’s past — not to mention several blink-and-you’d-miss-it odes to film, TV and, of course, Greek mythology. As is the case with all massive videos, there’s a whole lot to keep track of, so, much like we did for equally big clips like Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” and My Chemical Romance’s “Na Na Na,” we’ve put “Hold It Against Me” through the wringer and compiled a pop-culture cheat sheet that’s alphabetized and cross-referenced for your convenience. Believe us, this took way longer than you could imagine, but it was worth it. (Oh, and despite our best efforts, we’re sure there’s something we missed, which is why we need your help: Let us know what you spot in the comments below.) Photos of the references in Britney’s “Hold It Against Me.” The Graeae : In Greek mythology, they were the three sisters who shared a single eye. In Britney’s video, they’re hoodie-wearing dudes with serious dance moves (and no eyes at all). Same thing, really. Iamamiwhoami : Icky, sticky viral-video enigma whose early clips featured plenty of lying around in the fetal position (and amniotic fluids). In “HIAM,” Britney, covered in similarly sticky liquid, curls up on the floor, striking a pose that would make Iamami proud. Kanye West, “Runaway” : Over-the-top 35-minute mini-movie/allegory starring West as a man who cares for a phoenix who has fallen to Earth. The meteor that crashes to Earth at the beginning of “HIAM” reminds us a lot of the phoenix’s fiery entrance in ‘Ye’s film . And, if you look hard enough, you can also see the song’s lyrics printed out in the top left corner of the shot. Madonna, “Bedtime Stories” : Ultra-artistic 1995 video, directed by Mark Romanek, that cost a reported $5 million to make. From the futuristic set and the special effects to Brit’s long, flowing gown and whirling dancers, it appears to be a direct influence on pretty much everything in “HIAM.” Though we’re willing to bet Brit didn’t spend nearly as much to make her version. Madonna, “Die Another Day” : Big-budget 2002 Madonna video from the equally big-budget James Bond film of the same name. It featured a memorable fight scene that pitted Madge against her alter ego (Mariah Carey did the same thing in her “Heartbreaker” video, BTW). In “HIAM,” Britney battles her alter ego in a (very fashionable) kung fu fight. The Matrix” : Wachowski brothers franchise that featured plenty of TV screens and a whole lot of marauding machinery, just like “HIAM.” Like Keanu said, “Whoa.” “Mortal Kombat” : Totally awesome (and violent) fighting game that featured, among its cast of characters, a blue-garbed assassin named Sub-Zero. In “HIAM,” Britney’s dancers don outfits similar to him, only they don’t shoot ice out of their hands. Unless that part’s in the director’s cut. Robyn, “Indestructible” : Sexy 2010 video from Sweden’s sexiest pop export, it featured Robyn writhing on a table while wearing a dress made entirely of clear plastic tubes (courtesy of Australian artist Lucy McRae), sort of like the ones Britney uses to spray colored liquid all over the “HIAM” set. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” : Cult 1975 film adapted from a British play, its iconic poster featured a pair of bright-red lips, which seem to have also made their way into “HIAM.” Tool,

Seungri featured on Brazilian TV as the Korean Justin Bieber & Justin Timberlake

Aside from gaining a nod from Perez Hilton, Big Bang’s maknae Seungri has found himself in the foreign spotlight – specifically, in the form of a two-minute feature report on the Brazilian news program “Leitura Dinâmica.” After a summary of the widespread popularity of Western artists like Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake, Seungri was introduced through his latest music videos and hailed as a promising up & coming artist, similar to the Justin’s in terms of mainstream popularity and style. Here are the translations of the report: “Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake are important names of the actual pop music and serve as reference for many people. Even for a South Korean singer. “Somebody To Love” is still on the radio, in Justin Bieber’s voices. The forgotten “Sexy Back” from another Justin was the start of everything. The two singers already got the top place in the music rankings, but they will stay back after this, because Seungri is the man. Member of the boyband Big Bang, the South Korean singer made a new MV. He has the same music style of Justin Bieber, Usher and Timberlake. We found some similarities with Usher, Timberlake and Bieber. Seungri doesn’t talk about his references. “VVIP” is already in the online music charts, it’s a hit on the Korean radios and prepares his way in America. Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake should be careful!” Thanks to tamtamvip for the tip! Source: http://www.allkpop.com Report translations: Pollyana & BIGBANGBrazil
