Snoop Dogg unveiled a new name and a new film at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and now plans are firming up for its theatrical roll out. The documentary, Reincarnated , which follows the hip hop star’s evolution to a reggae singer, will bow in select cities March 15th. VICE Films and Snoopadelic Films will release the doc, according to THR. In Toronto in September, Snoop Dogg, whose actual name is Calvin Broadus, talked about transitioning to his new raggae-centered alter-ego, “Snoop Lion,” though he was emphatic that “Dogg” was alive and well. “”I’m Snoop Motherfuckin’ Dogg till the day I die,” he said. “But at the same time when I’m making my reggae music I’m in the light of the Lion.” Reincarnated follows Snoop’s journey to the birthplace of reggae, Trench Town, Jamaica, which once ground zero for Bob Marle, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. As we reported last week, Buju Banton was on trial for various charges surrounding the distribution of cocaine looked shaky. Unfortunately we were right and Buju has been found guilty on most of his charges. Reggae superstar Buju Banton was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilos of cocaine, attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, and using the wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offense. Banton was found not guilty of possession of a firearm. The verdict in Banton’s drug trial was just handed down this afternoon. Banton was detained by the court and had his bail revoked. Banton faces life in jail and will be sentenced soon. Hold your head bwoy. Hopefully the judge won’t throw the book at you, but if he does, take it and read it. *Kanye shrug* Source
