Duck Dynasty: Phil Robertson Suspended Because of Gay A&E Employees

Phil Robertson disrespected the gay employees at A&E, and that’s ultimately what got the star suspended from Duck Dynasty, according to a new report. The 67-year-old Robertson family patriarch’s suspension has become a polarizing topic this week, and now TMZ has insight into how it all went down. Why would the network suspend one of its most popular personalities when it knew the backlash it would get for it from fans and certain pundits? A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc felt she could not in good conscience ask the network’s gay employees to kill themselves for the show after Phil’s comments. When Robertson disrespected them by calling all gays sinners, and rather coarsely at that, in his recent interview with GQ , Dubuc felt she had no choice. A number of gay employees involved in the production of Duck Dynasty were outraged by Phil’s comments to GQ and wanted Dubuc to take action . The CEO felt that If Robertson had made similar comments about African Americans or Jews, the public outcry for his firing would’ve been immense. Long story short, she felt it was wrong not to react similarly because his comments were directed at gays, of whom she employs more than a few. Gay rights groups such as GLAAD was heavily involved in lobbying for the suspension of Phil Robertson , and they had an impact on A&E as well. Robertson was placed on “indefinite” suspension from the show mid-week. The Duck Dynasty cast has responded to the controversy, expressing disappointment and implying that the show won’t go on without their patriarch. Duck Dynasty Cast Issues Statement, Stands By Phil Robertson Phil Robertson Sermon As for criticism that A&E knew what it was getting into with Phil when they hired him – see this sermon video from 2010 (above) – a source explained: “He just took it too far with GQ … especially with the coarse language.” It certainly was harsh. Though Phil later said in a statement that he loves all of humanity and does not judge, his initial quotes did not give that impression. Regarding Phil’s religious views – the explanation for his comments – A&E is adamant that this has suspension has nothing to do with being “anti-religion.” Many critics alleged this, along with claiming that his constitutional rights have been violated. But in truth, the network runs lots of religious programming. Perhaps most notably, A&E is the home of Mark Burnett’s The Bible . The CEO is paying the price for her actions and has been receiving death threats. The status of Robertson and the show remains unclear at this time. He hasn’t been outright fired and the show hasn’t been canceled, and it’s unclear if production was even underway on new episodes at the time. In the Duck Dynasty Season 5 sneak peek (January 15), Phil is prominently featured, and there are several marathons of repeats on this month. Clearly, the network isn’t cutting ties with Phil yet, but they’re most likely weighing their options and speaking with the family about how to proceed. Should Phil Robertson have been suspended from Duck Dynasty?   Yes, obviously. He was way over the line. Maybe. I can see why A&E decided to. No way. He’s just stating his opinions, people! Phil Robertson: Sermon Video From 2010 Shows Anti-Gay Views Aren’t News

Additional evidence of Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay views has surfaced in the wake of his controversial GQ interview and suspension by A&E. Video of a sermon given by Phil at Pennsylvania’s Berean Bible Church’s Wild Game Supper in 2010 shows Robertson as fired up as ever on the topic. The Duck Commander founder can be seen dressed in camouflage, literally thumping a Bible, talking about sexual deviants and the lack of morality in America. Phil Robertson Sermon “First they say, ‘There is no God. Get him out of your mind,'” he says in the sermon. “Then they bow down to birds, animals and reptiles, and each other.” “And the first thing you see coming out of them is gross sexual immorality. They will dishonor their bodies with one another, degrade each other.” “Uh, is that going on in the United States of America? Look around. God’s not there… And boy is there some immorality going on around here. Does it get worse?” “Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions.” “They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless.” “They invent ways of doing evil. That’s what you have 235 years, roughly, after your forefathers founded the country. So what are you gonna do Pennsylvania?” “Just run with them? You’re doing to die. Don’t forget that.” The above video definitely fits the portrait painted by GQ , and raises the question of whether A&E is being dishonest for condemning Phil now. Duck Dynasty Cast Issues Statement, Stands By Phil Robertson He’s certainly unfiltered, and has been long before Duck Dynasty was the highest rated show in cable history. Did they expect anything less from him? Then again, as essentially an employee of their network, his crude comments to GQ are surely looked at differently than those from a 2010 sermon. In GQ , Phil said homosexuality is a sin and likened it to bestiality. Still, he insists that as a Christian he does not judge, nor would he incite hatred. “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell,” he said. “That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus.” “Whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists,” Robertson went on, he said, “We’ll let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?” After public outcry over the interview, A&E suspended Robertson indefinitely from the reality series due to his comments about the LGBT community. The controversy has led to many people, from celebrities to regular people, choosing sides and taking to social media to support or lash out at Robertson. In response to the controversy, the Robertson family issued a statement, essentially saying the show won’t go on without patriarch Phil at the helm. Should Phil have been suspended for his comments?   Yes, obviously. He was way over the line. Maybe. I can see why A&E decided to. No way. He’s just stating his opinions, people! View Poll »

Phil Robertson Suspension From Duck Dynasty: Right or Wrong?

Phil Robertson has been suspended indefinitely from A&E’s Duck Dynasty amid the intense backlash over his recent anti-gay comments in GQ. The family patriarch is famously outspoken and never affair to ruffle feathers (excuse the pun), but these remarks were particularly eyebrow-raising. Many were offended, but others are attacking A&E, saying Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments are merely statements of his religious and personal beliefs. Phil Robertson Suspension, Anti-Gay Backlash Sarah Palin was one of many fans to take to social media in response, charging that the Duck Dynasty star’s suspension is an attack on freedom of speech: “Free speech is an endangered species. The ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.” Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal also voiced support for his embattled constituent: “Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana.” “The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV.” “In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views.” “In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.” Duck Dynasty: Phil Robertson Under Attack Over Anti-Gay Comments Many fans of the series took to Twitter to voice similar thoughts, but juts as social media users expressed relief that A&E took action against the star. GLAAD praised A&E’s decision to suspend Robertson indefinitely (though he may still appear in already recorded Duck Dynasty Season 5 episodes). “What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike,” said GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz. “By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value.” The slew of Twitter reactions made Phil Robertson a trending topic on Wednesday, as major uproar ensued following the release of his GQ interview: At the same time, the pro-Phil hashtag #IStandWithPhil gained popularity. Among other things, Robertson called homosexuality illogical and cited Bible scripture to compare homosexuality to bestiality, adultery and prostitution. “It seems like, to me, a vagina – as a man – would be more desirable than a man’s anus, that’s just me,” he said. “I’m just thinking: There’s more there!” “She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” Phil Robertson Slams Gay People Robertson, asked what kinds of behavior he considers sinful, added: “Start with homosexual behavior and morph out from there … bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Before the suspension, Phil issued a statement in which he said: “I myself am a product of the ’60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior.” “My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.” “However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity.” “We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.” VOTE: Should Phil Robertson be suspended for his comments?   Yes, obviously. He was way over the line. Maybe. I can see why A&E decided to. No way. He’s just stating his opinions, people! View Poll »

Church in Illinois Looks Like Penis from Above: Hehe!

We’re not very mature at The Hollywood Gossip. We once made an entire article out of Taylor Swift resembling a famous Satanist . So you can only imagine our reaction when we saw a bird’s-eye image from Google Earth of the newly-built Christian Science church in Dixon, Illinois. Because it looks just like male genitalia! We’re sorry… but it does. See for yourself: And we can’t help but wonder if the owners were aware of this when they came up with the church slogan. Rising Up ?!? Come on. That’s just too easy.

Jenelle Evans to Embark on Speaking Tour?!

Just when you thought you’d heard everything, wrap your brain around this: Jenelle Evans has apparently decided to cash in on her MTV quasi-fame by educating the masses about teen pregnancy prevention. Seriously. To that end, she’s already lined up a gig in Chicago. For reals. Jenelle Evans ‘ story of teen pregnancy and its consequences is a cautionary tale. Or maybe that’s just her life. She doesn’t do much with the kid, honestly. If you want someone to relay the dangers of rampant weed and heroin use, getting arrested a lot or beating the crap out of people, she’s your girl! In all seriousness, this speaking engagement is like a thing. “Chicago coming yr way in November! Details will be coming soon for all my events,” Jenelle tweeted last week , to which Kailyn Lowry responded: “Ummmm take me with after baby is born!” Every speaking tour needs a co-headliner. One can only imagine Jenelle filling an hour musing about life, love, weed, Olive Garden, Kieffah, more weed, Gary, Courtland, Nathan … whatever. Oh, right, and Jace. Cute little guy. Him too. Jenelle Evans Mug Shot Gallery You have to wonder. It’s one thing to watch Teen Mom 2, but paying to see Jenelle in person? How boring can one’s life be that one would consider that?! A Barbara Evans speaking tour? Now that would be worth it.

The Voice Recap: James Irwin Returns, Wins Night Four of Blind Auditions

Night four of The Voice blind auditions proved that sometimes, the second time is the charm, while even a gifted talent doesn’t guarantee a spot on NBC. Who blew away Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton last night after failing to turn a single chair one season ago? Who else landed spots with the fab four of The Voice? Here’s a look at the singers who successfully gained entry into the next round last night … James Irwin – Losing My Religion (The Voice Blind Audition) James Irwin didn’t do much for the coaches last season. This time, with is performance of the R.E.M. classic “Losing My Religion,” it was a different story. Returning with newfound confidence and much more stage presence, Irwin had his pick of coaches, but went with the only one to point out weaknesses: Adam. Will Champlin – Not Over You (The Voice Blind Audition) Will Champlin, with a stirring performance of “Not Over You,” had all three male coaches pining for him. He went with Adam as well, a coup for the singer. Stephanie Anne Johnson – Black Horse and the Cherry Tree (The Voice Blind Audition) Stephanie Anne Johnson, with a performance of “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” landed on Team Christina. But Cee Lo is already looking to steal. Sam Cerniglia – It’s a Beautiful Day (The Voice Blind Audition) Sam Cerniglia sang “It’s a Beautiful Day” and the Michael Buble song was a hit with Blake, whose team he joined. Cee Lo also turned around for Sam. Olivia Henken – Two Black Cadillacs (The Voice Blind Audition) Olivia Henken had Cee Lo and Christina vying for her services with a strong spin on “Two Black Cadillacs,” and Aguilera eventually won her over. R. Anthony – Hall of Fame (The Voice Blind Audition) R. Anthony would love to be standing in the “Hall of Fame” himself one day, and took the first step last night, opting for Cee Lo over Christina Aguilera. Justin Chain – She’s Country (The Voice) Justin Chain only got one chair to turn around on “She’s Country,” but one is all it takes, as Blake clearly liked his take on the Jason Aldean song. Ashley DuBose – Diamonds (The Voice Blind Audition) Ashley DuBose turned all four chairs with “Diamonds,” channeling Rihanna in tremendous fashion and picking Levine despite near unanimous begging. Amber Nicole, Emily Randolph & Keaira LaShae – The Voice Blind Auditions Keaira LaShae also landed with Green, while Aguilera recruited Amber Nicole, and Shelton seized Emily Randolph to finish off night four of Season 5. That leaves Levine and Aguilera with 10 singers each, while Shelton and Green both have nine. Which contestants picked the right or wrong coaches? Who’s got the best team so far, and who’s been your favorite singer throughout the blind auditions this season? Sound off in the comments below.

Unaware he was being set up, he defends a Muslim store clerk from an actor posing as a customer and making defamatory comments about his religion.
