Kanye West, Justin Bieber Fans Split On ‘Runaway Love’ Remix

Remix featuring Raekwon has some pop and hip-hop purists on the fence. By Peter de Saint Phalle Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Kanye West forced fanbases to collide on Monday, when he released his Justin Bieber “Runaway Love” remix , featuring Raekwon. What began as a mere social-networking brainstorm, not only utilizes the contemporary pop-chart topping talents of both West and the Beebs, but also features some of Raekwon’s vintage verses from “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F— Wit.” So how do loyal fans react when a teen pop sensation, a master producer-turned-rapper and a hip-hop legend combine forces? For the answers, we’ve looked across different blog sites and MTVNews.com to see fan comments and reactions to the new record. While the remix seemed acceptable to most listeners, others thought the blend of Bieber with the two MCs went together like oil and water. McShanful wrote on the hip-hop blog 2dopeboyz.com : “I thought this turned out pretty dope. But judging by the comments, this remix is a fail because Wu-Tang fans don’t want to hear JB on a classic beat. And JB fans don’t know or even care who Raekwon is, nor do they appreciate this classic beat. Nice try, ‘Ye.” Readers on both pop and hip-hop websites couldn’t see the benefit of including Bieber’s song in the collaboration, stating that the current prince of bubble gum discredited the rappers’ integrity. “I’m a hard-core fan of Kanye’s earlier music, but now I honestly think he will do anything if it gives him some fraction of publicity or money,” Leni wrote on JustJared.com . “Justin Bieber? I mean really?” Legacye wrote on on PerezHilton.com : “Oh … dear … lord. That was awful. Kanye’s part of the track sounded fine, but Justin’s music is just TOO tweeny-pop to fit in well with adult R and B. 1/5 from me.” And though Bieber’s collaboration with Ludacris on “Baby” has been a huge hit with his followers, some were less than pleased by this much less pop-flavored track. “OMG !! That is just horrible,” KT wrote on on Popeater.com . “Justin is the only good thing on the song, but you have to sit thru that no talent thug mumbling and talking his way thru the verses before Justin sprinkles his magic on the song. PLEASE Justin don’t team up with these no talent thug rappers because your management says so. All it shows is how much talent you have and how little talent the rappers have. No wonder they all want a piece of Justin’s genius. YAYYY JUSTIN!!” But there were also many positive comments about the new musical frontiers embarked upon by the unlikely trio. “The song actually wasn’t that bad, and as much as I hate to say it, Bieber sounded a little like Michael Jackson,” Ericarbo436 wrote on MTVNews.com. “A young youth, rockin’ the gold tooth!” B

Afrojack Talks His ‘Freaky’ Lady Gaga ‘Alejandro’ Remix

Gaga’s people ‘were like, ‘we want that crazy Afrojack vibe,’ so I went really crazy.’ Dutch DJ/producer says. By Akshay Bhansali Afrojack Photo: MTV News “Lady Gaga, she’s a freak,” Dutch DJ/producer Afrojack told MTV News on Saturday, “so I thought, ‘Gotta make a freaky song!’ ” He’s referring to his remix of Lady Gaga’s most recent single and video, “Alejandro,” which is among a collection of remixes featured on Gaga’s recent Alejandro: The Remixes EP. In the electronic/dance music world, Nick van de Wall (a.k.a. Afrojack) is one of the genre’s rising stars: His mentor is crossover star David Guetta , and he has been instrumental in popularizing the “Holland House” — or as he calls it, “bleep” — sound. Interestingly, when Gaga’s camp put in their request for the remix, at first Afrojack thought it better to deliver a more pop-radio-friendly track. But as fans of Lady Gaga have come to know, she prides herself on keeping it real. Turns out Gaga wanted a dirty, more underground, Afrojack joint. “First I thought, ‘Let me just give them a soft mix,’ ” Afrojack recalled. “And they were like, ‘No — we want that crazy Afrojack vibe.’ And so I went really crazy. I was even in the studio like, ‘This is pretty damn hard.’ I sent it and they were like, ‘ F— yeah!’ ” Afrojack also told MTV News that he recently completed an official remix for Diddy/Dirty Money’s “Hello, Good Morning,” and that fans should expect some serious house. “It’s like really, really underground,” Afrojack said. “Even more than the ‘Alejandro’ remix — like even more back to the underground, purely for the house heads, because I know [Diddy] works with Felix Da Housecat. He’s really into that electro stuff, so I thought, ‘You know what? I’m gonna make him a really underground mix.’ ” Related Artists Afrojack Lady Gaga

DJ Khaled Calls Performing With Rick Ross, Diddy, T.I. ‘Legendary’

Super-DJ also shot remix video for ‘All I Do Is Win’ over the weekend, with cameos by Nicki Minaj, Fabolous, T-Pain and more. By Shaheem Reid DJ Khaled says every Memorial Day weekend in Miami is a “moooovie,” but the past few days in South Beach were extra crazy. “I got stories to tell,” Khaled told MTV News on Tuesday (June 1) about the festivities. “It’s gonna be a hot f—ing summer.” Khaled, Rick Ross and Diddy were virtually inseparable over the holiday, hitting club Cameo on Thursday, an assortment of hot spots on Friday, then Mansion on Saturday, the Best of the Best concert on Sunday and, oh yeah, they found time over the weekend to film a video for the remix of Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win,” off his Victory LP. “Call it Rick Ross-DJ Khaled-Supreme Team-Puff Daddy takeover on a whole ‘nother level,” Khaled said. “You already know every Memorial Day Weekend — Miami is ours. We always on fire. This year was special because we shot the remix video of ‘All I Do Is Win.’ Everyone showed up, from Jada to Busta to Puff Daddy to Nicki Minaj to Fabolous to T-Pain to myself. “I know it’s hard to say these types of things, [but] there’s only one remix video I know that’s exciting like this, it’s called ‘Flava in Ya Ear,’ ” Khaled insisted, recalling Craig Mack’s Hype Williams-directed black-and-white clip. “First of all, the [‘All I Do Is Win’] record is the biggest record in the country. To shoot the remix video is something so amazing. It’s coming out soon. I know there’s photos all over the Net, but it’s exciting.” But if there was a soundtrack to Memorial Day in Miami, it was Rick Ross’ The Albert Anastasia EP (out since Thursday), according to Khaled. The super-DJ said he could feel the tape’s immediate impact. “The whole mixtape is crazy. But it’s two records on there that’s lighting up the streets,” Khaled testified. “I don’t know if you remember when we dropped ‘Hustlin’.’ That’s the response we getting, but with two records at the same time. We tore up the club performing ‘All I Do Is Win.’ And the two records off the mixtape, one is called [Blowin’ Money Fast] ‘B.M.F.’ and the other is called ‘MC Hammer.’ These two records, quote me: DJ Khaled says these are going to be the biggest things in the street. It’s already causing problems. It’s already causing problems on a whole ‘nother level. Teflon Don the album — it’s a classic. These records right here are just waking the streets up on a whole ‘nother level. I don’t want nobody to get us confused.” The most exciting part about celebrating a big weekend is getting to interact with the fans, Khaled said. “We did club Mansion the other night. It was DJ Khaled, Puff Daddy, Ross was there, T.I. was there. It was amazing. It was a legendary moment. Everybody performed. I remember when we dropped the ‘B.M.F.’ and ‘MC Hammer’ record, I looked at Ross because the crowd took a deep breath. It had that ‘Hustlin’ ‘ feeling. Best of the Best, it was great because, me and Ross, I threw on ‘All I Do Is Win’ — the crowd went crazy. And we actually performed it three times. Ross, Busta, Nicki, Puff was all in the place to be. It all felt good.” Are you excited to see how the remix video for “All I Do Is Win” turned out? Tell us in the comments! Lloyd Banks Talks Up His ‘Beamer, Benz Or Bentley’ Remix Team

Jadakiss, Ludacris, Yo Gotti and The-Dream are all featured on the new version. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Banks Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Lloyd Banks ‘ “Beamer, Benz or Bentley,” featuring Juelz Santana, came out of nowhere to be a smash. The song has been such a favorite that artists from Eminem to Joell Ortiz have freestyled on the beat. Banks is grateful for the love from his peers, and last week, he dropped the official remix with a slew of teammates. “Shout-out to everybody who did the record prior to the official remix coming out,” Banks said on Friday from Panama. The remix features Jadakiss, Ludacris, Yo Gotti and The-Dream. “The fans, I think they wanted to hear something new, something fresh,” Banks said. “While I was on tour, the international tour, I kept in communication with all those artists. Shout out to Jada, shout out to Luda, Yo Gotti, The-Dream. I had everybody’s verse except for Dream. That was the last thing that came in. Those were all people I respect and people I would like to work with outside the remix. It ain’t really hard to decide who’s gonna be on it.” Banks also switched up the much-rapped-on beat, making the “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” remix almost an entirely different song. “I had about six different beats,” Banks said. “Just sitting with 50 [Cent], he brought it to my attention to try and change the element a little bit. Being that already 40 or 50 artists already rapped on the [original] beat, it’s kinda hard to decipher what’s the real remix. If they all rapping to the same beat, you can just patch it with the other 40, 50 artists and make a mega-mix and not know what the official remix is. The beat change lets people know off the rip ‘This is the official remix.’ I’m pretty sure they’ll be blending the original beat in with it anyway.” Here, Banks breaks down how each artist came to appear on his remix: The-Dream : “I had spoke to couple of different R&B artists. That’s an element that I think helps. Everybody wants to be a part of that record. I don’t think it has to be kept to one lane. I’ve heard Spanish versions to [the original], Jamaican versions to it, Haitian versions to it. I got a feel of what the melodic feel would bring to the record. The-Dream, he was already doing [his own version]. Once I caught wind of it, I was like, ‘Yo, let me get that. Don’t put that out.’ ” Yo Gotti : “Yo Gotti, I had spoke to him directly. I spoke to him a couple times, told him I wanted to get something done with him. Before that opportunity presented itself, the [song] bubbled all down south in Memphis. I was like, ‘Let’s get Gotti on it.’ He has the street in a chokehold. We’ll probably have more records come in the future also. He definitely has a lane, man, and I wish him luck.” Ludacris : “Luda, that’s the homie, man. Just through that, [it] wasn’t really nothing [difficult]. Luda is out there bubbling, platinum plaques and all that, #1 records, where I’m trying to take it. Shout-out to Luda and shout-out to [Disturbing Tha Peace co-founder] Chaka [Zulu] for making that happen. Jadakiss : “That wasn’t nothing. That wasn’t nothing but a phone call. I spoke to him a few times about the record. I had his verse for a minute. I had his verse while I was overseas and everyone was leaking their versions. We built the beat around his verse. He adds that extra, that lyrical element, that New York City vibe to it. I didn’t want to stand alone on that joint.” What do you think about the “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” remix lineup?
