Good, Bad & Ugly: When Rappers Get Shoe Deals

There was a time when having endorsements was called selling out for rappers. That time has passed and rappers are attaching their names to anything they can. Including shoes. Sometimes the results are dope…other times, they’re scary. Here are some examples.

Beastie Boys Unleash Celeb-Packed ‘Fight For Your Right Revisited’ Trailer

Danny McBride, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood and John C. Reilly star as past and future Beastie Boys. By Gil Kaufman Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood and Danny McBride in the “Fight For Your Right Revisited” trailer Photo: Capitol Records Adam Horowitz must throw some epic pool parties. That’s one of the major takeaways from the two-minute trailer released on Thursday for the Beastie Boys’ celebrity-packed short film, “Fight for Your Right Revisited.” The trailer dropped just as fans got their second taste of Beastie goodness from the group’s upcoming Hot Sauce Committee Part Two album (due out May 3), the funktastic throwback jam, “Make Some Noise.” One of the short’s stars, “Your Highness” star Danny McBride, broke down the action for MTV News a few months ago at Sundance, dishing on his portrayal of B-Boy MCA alongside Elijah Woods’ Ad-Rock and Seth Rogen’s Mike D after the film’s debut. But even his description of the demented action in the film that chronicles what happened to the Beasties after the events of the original “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)” video in 1987 couldn’t prepare fans for the window-smashing, F-bomb dropping, “Wait, was that …?” action in the finished product. Among the other celebs popping up in the clip: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jack Black, Rainn Wilson, Rashida Jones, Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Chlo

Pia Toscano Gets Support From Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson, More

Celebs take to Twitter to express shock after singer’s ‘American Idol’ elimination. By Gil Kaufman Pia Toscano sings goodbye on “American Idol” Photo: FOX It was the shock heard ’round the world. Within hours of Pia Toscano’s unexpected elimination on “American Idol” on Thursday night, celebrities and past “Idol” contestants took to Twitter to express their dismay at the ousting of the raven-haired singer who many had pegged as the woman who could break the recent string of male dominance on the show. “Who are the people that vote on ‘American Idol’?,” tweeted Ashton Kutcher. “That’s just crazy! That Pia girl is dope.” Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson , who knows a thing or two about being booted off “Idol” way before her time, was equally dumbfounded. “I can not believe they just eliminated Pia!,” she wrote to her followers. “Really???? … Long as she walked away with that voice she will be alright!! Just hate to see talent like that go!” Some “Jersey Shore” castmembers were also upset about the results, with Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola writing , “Nooo please tell me why Pia is in the bottom 3?!” early in the show, then following up with, “WHAT!!!!!!!!! … wow. Upset over ‘American Idol’ right now.” Housemate Snooki wasn’t feeling it either, saying simply, ” ‘American Idol’ … WTF … Pia should have won the whole thing! I’m not watchin Idol anymore. I’m with JLO on this one.” After begging fans to stay with the show following Toscano’s booting, host Ryan Seacrest tweeted about what the scene was like when the cameras stopped rolling. “After we went off air no one in audience left their seat, everyone was in shock. Judges walked on stage to talk to her,” he wrote . “@JLo was emotional.” He used the opportunity to once again urge viewers to vote if they don’t like the results of Thursday’s show. “No one is EVER safe,” he insisted. “Gotta vote for ur fav.” Beatboxing singer Blake Lewis, runner-up to the last female who won the show, season six’s Jordin Sparks, was also dismayed, but said he thought Pia would be just fine. “Wow. Still blown away by America not voting for PIA! @PToscanoAI10 She will record a dope record and be fine, but come on. This stinks,” he tweeted . Other celebs weighed in as well, including one-season “Idol” judge Ellen DeGeneres, who told her followers that she was “shocked and sad” about Pia’s exit. Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks wrote , “Don’t have an ‘Idol’ habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off? I may be done for the season!” Others expressing dismay included Marlon Wayans, Minka Kelly, Alyssa Milano, former “Idol” finalist Melinda Doolittle and “Parenthood” actor Dax Shepard. In the end, Pia herself tweeted a farewell (for now), telling her followers, “I’m truly going to miss my idol family! Thank you @JLo Randy and Steven for believing in me. Love you and love my fans!” How do you feel about Pia’s elimination? Let us know in the comments below! Wendy Williams and her partner, Tony Dovolani, were voted off “Dancing With the Stars” last night. After the results were announced, Williams thanked her partner and the judges, and joked, “Despite stereotypes, this is one black girl who can’t even do the running man.” The 46-year old personality attributed her poor performances to too much travel. Wendy traveled back and forth from New York to tape her daytime show during filming of the reality show. Wendy may be upset about getting voted off, but we’re sure her feet are thanking her. Thia Megia, Naima Adedapo Say Jamie Foxx Eased ‘American Idol’ Exit

‘It took out all the stress with the drums and the music and the live colors,’ Megia tells MTV News of results-show performance with will.i.am. By Jim Cantiello Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia Photo: MTV News If you watched Jamie Foxx and will.i.am’s high-energy “Hot Wings” performance on last week’s “American Idol” results show and thought to yourself, “Where have I seen this before?” you weren’t alone. Naima Adedapo rocked a similar drums-and-dance flavor the week before when she performed “Dancing in the Streets,” and the newly eliminated singer loved the similarities. “It was for me! It was like my exit parade,” joked Adedapo, who made a name for herself with equally colorful production numbers on “Idol.” In fact, the over-the-top spectacle was just what the doctor ordered for Adedapo and fellow eliminated castmate Thia Megia , who both boogied on the sidelines during Foxx and will.i.am’s appearance despite knowing that the odds were against them once Ryan Seacrest got around to announcing the results. “It took out all the stress with the drums and the music and the live colors,” said Megia, who stopped by MTV News with Adedapo to discuss their time on “Idol.” “I think it was perfect that they did that [particular performance] before the results. It just made me feel so much better.” “I was like, ‘I’m happy! It doesn’t even matter now. I’m happy!’ ” gushed Adedapo, who also admitted that it took all of energy not to run up onstage and join the Carnival-inspired choreography. “I wanted to jump over the couch and get it in with them. They did such a wonderful job. … I was yelling the whole time. You could probably ask the dancers. I was like, ‘You better get it! You better get it!’ ” she laughed. Adedapo and Megia have plenty of time to plan future dance routines for the upcoming American Idols Live! Tour. The two of them will join the rest of the top 11 as they hit up North American venues this summer. Were you sad to see Adedapo and Megia go? Let us know in the comments!
