Hannah Brown was hoping to have other plans this past weekend. Maybe she and Jed Wyatt would be choosing a band for their wedding. Perhaps she and Tyler Cameron would be grabbing dinner and then seeing a movie. In the end, however, Brown ended up all alone on Friday night for two unfortunate reasons: FIRST, Wyatt turned out to be a rotten dirty liar who basically had a girlfriend back at home throughout his winning run on The Bachelorette Season 15. As a result, once she learned the truth, Hannah ended the pair’s engagement and sent Jed packing. SECOND, Brown was seemingly all set to date her runner-up pretty seriously, only to go on one date with Tyler and then watch as multiple celebrity gossip outlets detailed his subsequent plethora of dates with Gigi Hadid . Ouch. Very tough break for Brown on that front. So this all brings us back to Friday evening… The former Bachelorette lead opened up to fans about how she’s doing following her dating drama from the show, sitting down and revealing a lot about herself in a social media discussion. “Hey ya’ll,” Hannah began in a series of videos on Instagram Stories on Friday, August 9, adding to those checking out this footage: “Thought we could just cozy up and have a long overdue Friday night chat.” The 24-year old beauty queen then detailed how she needed to shower, but that’s the “least of her concerns right now.” “But what I want to talk about is some of ya’ll are crazy,” she continued. “And Jesus loves you, so I’m trying to love you. But I feel like a lot of people are looking into anything I do – you know, breathe or post, anything – and looking for a cryptic message in there of how I’m doing.” Hannah has been trying to make it clear for the past two weeks that she really is fine. She is glad she discovered the truth about Jed and moved on and it’s not as though she asked Tyler to marry her. She asked him to get a drink… the two did get a drink… and now they’re both single, so whatever. “We are trying to figure out how we feel,” she said a few days after the first Tyler-Gigi sighting went viral. “I have feelings. But I’m also single. And he’s single. And I wanna keep my options open.” All true. Yet it still must sting to see Tyler dating a celebrity, right? In such a public manner no less? Yes, Hannah now admits. “How am I doing? I’ll let you know,” she said on Friday, explaining: “I have moments of mad, glad, happy, sad. I don’t know if you know this, but I just went through a s–tshow. Some of you watched, I lived it.” There are obviously worse things in life than what Hannah has gone through — but we do appreciate her honesty and we do feel for her. This isn’t the first time that the Bachelorette beauty has spoken about the difficulties surrounding her season and beyond. When she felt that fans were comparing her to Hadid, she wrote the following on her Instagram Story: “I am forever so thankful for the love and support you all show me,” she wrote last Wednesday evening, concluding at the time: “However, supporting me doesn’t mean you have to compare me to anyone else. “I want to make sure that we are all remembering to uplift other women and not tear them down. XOXO, Han.” All this and Hannah still may need to sit back and watch Cameron as The Bachelor . Hang in there, girl. View Slideshow: Tyler Cameron Photo Montage: Holy Hotness! Propose RIGHT NOW, Hannah!
So much has happened this weekend in the world of celebrity gossip. Like, first of all, true love died when it was announced that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are divorcing after less than a year of marriage. Or, OK, it’s not that dramatic. It’s not like Miley and Liam were the perfect example of Hollywood romance, but their love story did go on for a very long time , and we just hoped they’d make it, all right? Sadly, it appears they simply were not meant to be. In a shocking statement a rep for the couple made to People yesterday, we learned that “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.” “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers,” the statement continued. “They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.” The rep wrapped things up by asking everyone to “Please respect their process and privacy.” And we would love to do that, we really would, but we just can’t do that right now. Not with everything else that’s been happening. As we said, the divorce announcement came out yesterday, and you know what else came out yesterday? Some photos of Miley kissing someone else. And not just anyone else, either, but Kaitlynn Carter — a woman who, just a couple of weeks ago, was known as Brody Jenner’s wife. This is shaping up to be one wild ride, right? But hold on, it gets better. So we heard about Brody and Kaitlynn’s split just earlier this month, and of course the news about Miley and Liam just came out this weekend — both splits are pretty darn fresh. That makes the photos of Miley and Kaitlynn together questionable, because could their relationship be the reason for the broken marriages? There’s always the chance that they’ve been finding solace in each other’s arms, of course, but the timing is definitely a little suspect. Don’t worry though — Brody doesn’t seem too broken up about it! In one of the photos that Kaitlynn posted of herself with Miley, he actually commented with “Hot girl summer,” along with a flame emoji. That doesn’t sound like the comment from a man with a broken heart, does it? Lots of Kaitlynn’s followers replied to Brody’s comment, and it looks like there are a lot of theories on why he’d leave a comment like this. The most popular theory is that he’s trying to be nice to Kaitlynn so she’ll take him back — which, sorry, she seems a little busy at the moment. Another possibility is that he’s being a supportive ex, which would be nice of him And there’s always the chance that his comment is as simples as “Girls pretty me like.” View Slideshow: 19 Most Stunning Splits in Celebrity History Whatever’s going on, all of this sure is interesting, right?
A frican Americans are disproportionately affected by the growing diabetes epidemic. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , Black adults are 80 percent more likely than whites to be diagnosed with diabetes. A new Chicago-based nonprofit is striving to reverse the alarming trend. According to Black News , The Suga Project is creating a space to foster conversations surrounding ways to combat Type 2 diabetes and the overall importance of Black health. The organization—which was founded by Natalie Pauls —was established to provide resources for African Americans who are battling diabetes and for others who want to get involved in addressing the epidemic. Cognizant of the rising numbers of Black folks who are affected by the disease, Pauls wanted to create a platform where they could feel empowered and supported. The Suga Project provides informative courses that teach individuals how to lead healthier lifestyles. “The numbers are startling,” Pauls said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “African Americans are four times more likely to have an amputation due to diabetes complications. African American women are dying at rates greater than any other group of women in history.” The organization’s overarching goal is to see a decrease in the number of diabetes cases within the Black community. Several individuals and organizations are working to spread awareness about diabetes amongst African Americans. Earlier this year actress Viola Davis teamed up with the pharmaceutical company Merck to narrate a documentary titled A Touch of Sugar that captures how the disease is impacting communities across the country. “I’m one of the 84 million American adults living with prediabetes and I’m sharing my story for the first time in an effort to inspire others to take action against the type 2 diabetes epidemic,” she said in a statement about the film. “When you look at the facts, there’s nothing harmless about diabetes – it’s a chronic disease that needs to be taken seriously if we’re going to get it under control.” SEE ALSO: Viola Davis Spreads Awareness About Diabetes Through New Documentary GirlTrek Movement Inspires Black Women To Take Charge Of Their Health [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3459090″ overlay=”true”]
B lack women are breaking racial barriers in higher education. Earlier this month Amber Johnson made history by becoming the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in computer science at Purdue University. Florida State University student Kalisa Villafana also hit a historic milestone by becoming the first Black woman to graduate from the university with a nuclear physics doctoral degree, WFTS reported. MAKING HISTORY Kalisa Villafana will become Florida State University's first black female graduate to earn a doctoral degree in nuclear physics. https://t.co/r6tIZ89MDw — ABC Action News (@abcactionnews) August 2, 2019 Villafana has always had a passion for STEM. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University and spending a brief stint of time working overseas in Trinidad and Tobago she made the decision to further her education and pursue another degree at FSU. Villafana was aware that her educational journey was something bigger than herself. She wanted to use it as an avenue to inspire individuals from underrepresented groups to enter the STEM field. Outside of excelling academically, she served as a mentor for students of color who aspired to go to graduate school. “In Trinidad, many people don’t know how to get to the United States and get a Ph.D. that’s paid for by the school. They don’t know how to go from being an international student from the islands to a doctor in the U.S.,” she told the news outlet. “Hopefully, they see that they too can be a physicist. You may not see a lot of us, but we’re there. We’re out there.” Villafana—who is now the 96th Black woman in America to hold a Ph.D. in physics—credits her family and friends for providing her with a strong support system. As far as the next step in her career, she will serve as a process engineer at the Intel Corporation. Not only that, to make matters even more serious, the actor is letting fans know that he’s refusing to start work on Aquaman 2 until something is done. Right now, the project–known as Thirty Meter Telescope–is being built there, while Indigenous Hawaiians believe that shouldn’t happen because it’s the most sacred site on Earth.
