While appearing on Harrison Sanford’s the Green Room podcast, Green detailed what went down. He was in Vancouver for a basketball camp when he checked into a suspect Airbnb pad that he described as looking “haunted.” This is where we point out that Green makes millions of dollars so we’re guessing he could have afforded a proper hotel. But anyway… While Green and his homie went in to check out the rental, which they said look shabbier than the photos, they left two bags in the car. When they came back downstairs, the bags were gone. “We were there 10 minutes … we go back outside, and pretty much—not robbed of everything—but two book bags gone,” said Green. “We lost electronics, computers, laptops, some camp registry money, stuff like that.” Danny Green’s knowledge about hoods explains why he was a mark. The rapper and YG affiliate posted a photo via Instagram in recovery, thanking the hospital staff and also clowning his assailants by joking that they copped their bullets from Wal-Mart. “I wanna thank the staff at the hospital for helpin me shake back I owe y’all #Roscoes or #TacoMell 4 life & God I thank whoeva was poppin 4 buyn them shells at walmart I’m here 4 a reason Hol’Upppp,” Slim wrote in the caption of the flick. After being released from the Intensive Care Unit just a little while ago, Slim 400 definitely has a long road back to health. Source: Pose / FX Networks WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for episode 4 of “Pose:” If it felt that in the second season of Pose Candy Ferocity ( Angelica Ross ) was growing and developing into something bigger and better, you were not alone. While in the hit ballroom drama, Candy has always struggled, especially with choosing the correct category, she’d come a long way. Yes, she is still a mean girl who can read the girls and even threaten folks with that infamous hammer of hers, but she’s evolved a bit. She’s no longer the girl having strangers in basements inject faulty silicon in her rear, nor is she tagging behind former house mother Elektra Abundance Evangelista Wintour ( Dominique Jackson ) feeding off her scraps. Ms. Candy—as Pray Tell ( Billy Porter ) would say—had stepped up to become a co-mother, molding her own children and house, along with doing her damnedest to carve out her own lasting legacy. And as we jumped three years later to 1990 this season, we see how the girls—rather naively and annoyingly—have faith that Madonna’s hit song “Vogue” would bring them all from the shadows of this underground world into the bright lights of the Big Apple. As Candy said, she needed to the first one in the line of that mainstream gaze, because she has bigger dreams than winning trophies in the face category. She was destined to become a star in the outside world. She was looking to the future. Source: Pose / FX Networks Of course, we all wanted that for her, to see her rise and be successful like Angel (Indya Moore ), but in the fourth episode “ Never Knew Love Like This Before,” we realize that Candy “is never coming home.” Days after she’d gone missing, her bruised and bloody body was found, thrown in a seedy hotel closet like yesterday’s trash. See, Candy had to engage in survival sex work to keep her house afloat, but this time around, the danger too many vulnerable women like her face is what ended her life. Granted, it’s not like death is new to Pose . But the majority of those deaths have been from complications of AIDS, mostly taking the lives of Black and Latinx men. Meanwhile, many of the girls (outside of Blanca) seemed unscathed by the virus on-screen. But as Angelica Ross recently told me this season co-creator Ryan Murphy was clear that this season they would no longer be viewing these women’s world through “rose colored glasses.” But thankfully, her death wasn’t treated like an afterthought like Tara from True Blood or with blatant disregard like Missandei on Game of Thrones). As I recently pointed out for Shondaland , Candy’s storyline was treated with “the love, dignity and respect it deserved.” During Candy’s memorial, her fierce-as-ever ghost appeared in order to make amends with frenemies like Pray Tell, encourage Angel to carry on her torch to the next generation of trans girls like her and to reunite with her estranged parents who had refused to see their son as the woman she was born to be. Most importantly, Candy was no longer the butt of the ball’s jokes. In her final scene, she was able to fulfill her biggest goal before crossing over: To be the queen of the ballroom in a category she knew she could conquer, lip-syncing. But it’s important to point out that this stunning (and triggering moment) in television was also an example of art imitating life. In the iconic 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning , which Pose is heavily inspired by, Venus Xtravaganza’ promising life was ended short when her body was found in a “sleazy motel” four days after she’d been strangled. Like Candy, her killer was never caught. One would think that with time comes progress, but for trans women, specifically Black and Latinx trans women like Candy and Venus, that isn’t always the case. Yes, they are more visible in pop culture, but being seen doesn’t translate into safety. Just this year alone, eleven Black trans women in the U.S. have been murdered : Dana Martin. Jazzaline Ware. Ashanti Carmon. Claire Legato. Muhlaysia Booker. Michelle “Tamika” Washington. Paris Cameron. Chynal Lindsey. Chanel Scurlock. Zoe Spears. Brooklyn Lindsey. What’s even worse is that it’s estimated that the average lifespan for trans women is only 35-years-old. Think if that were the case for cisgender Black women. Think if every year you inch closer to 35, you inch closer to death. Every time you blow out your birthday candles you are reminded of ALL the years, happiness and dreams that will be robbed from you because you are brave enough to live your truth. That’s the real tragedy. All that potential, just lost. All of the gifts they can offer and receive from this world, gone. This is exactly what Candy’s fictional death represents—the dreams deferred of the real-life Black trans women we’ve lost and will continue to lose to this senseless, transphobic and crippling violence. Sadly, it’s happening on our watch. So if there was ever a time to stand up for Black trans women, it’s now. Now is the time to love and support our sisters by fighting for a better and more welcoming world that allows for them to live their fullest and longest lives. We owe them that. Most importantly, now is the time to ensure that when we say the names of the Candys of this world, we’re not just doing it in death, but celebrating them in life. Source: Columbia Police Department / Columbia Police Department Apparently the Simmons DNA runs long in the south. A man who resembles Darkman X is on the run for some gunplay. South Carolina police are looking for a man who bears a very strong resemblance to rapper DMX . So much so that the lawmen had to clear the MC’s name after a sketch of the culprit was released. The department stated the drawing was completed “with the assistance of a crime witness” who said that the gunman looked just like the Yonkers native. Columbia Police Department Deputy Chief Melron Kelly detailed the process that led to the doppleganger. ”We always let the witness dictate the process and how everything unfolds,” he explained. “We make sure the witness sees everything we do and is comfortable with whatever rendering that we make.” He went on to confirm that DMX is not a suspect in case. “I guarantee you he’s not,” Kelly said. The official police report states that “on June 19, 2019, CPD officers were initially dispatched to the 4400 block of Blossom Street. Upon arrival, they located the 27-year-old male victim outside of an apartment complex with an injury to the lower body.” The suspect is described as being a tall, slender black male, possibly 30-years-old with a short haircut and well-groomed beard. HTGAWM made it’s debut in 2014 with Viola Davis playing an antihero who gets mixed up in murder, secrets and complicated relationships with her law students. The role acted as a boost to Davis’ career, making her the first woman of color to win the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2015. In a statement to Shadow & Act , ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke explained: “Viola Davis made television history with her unforgettable portrayal of iconic female antihero Annalise Keating. I am eternally grateful to her, Pete Nowalk and Shondaland for creating and bringing to life such a smart, sophisticated and groundbreaking series that has long been an integral part of Thursday nights on ABC.” The creator of the series, Pete Nowalk, said: “Deciding to end this series was a brutal decision, but ultimately the story tells you what to do – as it did here. For me, Annalise Keating’s journey has always had a clear ending. Knowing I have 15 episodes left to finish her story, and the chance to give all the characters their own killer endings, is a gift rarely given to a series creator and I’m grateful to ABC and ABC Studios for the opportunity and creative freedom. Amber Portwood is being falsely accused of wielding a machete and slashing the bathroom door behind which her boyfriend and baby son were cowering. So claims someone very close to the disgraced Teen Mom OG cast member: Her very own brother. As you may have read by now, Portwood is in serious trouble with the law. The reality star was arrested very early on the morning of July 5 after allegedly getting into a heated argument with live-in lover Andrew Glennon. According to what Glennon told the Indiana police, Portwood was set off after traffic caused her, Andrew and their child, James, to miss a July Fourth fireworks show. Amber reportedly blamed Glennon for this situation, eventually hurling a one-inch heeled shoe in his direction … threatening to kill herself by taking a bunch of pills… and then grabbing the aforementioned sword and using it to try and break into the bathroom after Andrew locked himself inside there with James. Holy frickin cow, right?!? Will she go to prison? Will she be fired by MTV? Will she lose custody to Andrew, after he filed to permanently have the toddler under his supervision? These are the questions now being debated by celebrity gossip followers and Teen Mom OG viewers across the nation. But Shawn Portwood claims we all need to slowo our roll… because his sister did NOT do all the things of which she’s been accused. “Stay tuned for the surprise ending. Everything’s not always all it’s cracked up to be,” Portwood Tweeted late Tuesday evening. When one individual remarked how the surprise must be that she allegedly used a “flip flop and machete,” Shawn clapped right back. He remained adamant that his sister is mostly innocent. “That’s not true at all,” he wrote. “You guys are jumping to conclusions that based off of what one person is said. But there is evidence to prove that she did not do that.” This evidence, if it exists, has not yet been made public. On the flip side, police records indicate that a police officer on the scene at Andrew and Amber’s home last Friday took photos of the marks left on Andrew’s neck from shoe Portwood threw at home. These same records state that Amber has admitted to throwing the shoe, but told the cops it barely grazed her boyfriend. Amber went to jail in 2013 for assaulting ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley, a fact basically referenced by someone who responded to Shawn’s Tweet barrage. “What’s your evidence? Amber’s word? We all know she’s violent,” this person wrote to Shawn, who replied as follows: If all I had were Amber word I wouldn’t say nothing. I’m not saying I don’t trust her but I don’t go based off of word. I go based off of facts and evidence. And right now the evidence that I know of does not indicate anything about what was said she did. Intriguing, right? We’re not about to speculate too much here because this whole thing is too sensitive. There’s a one-year old child right smack dab in the middle it, let’s remember. We’ve been trying to stick solely thus far to what the police have said and what the legal system has ruled and we’ll continue to update fans on the status of Amber; her custody; and her freedom as news breaks. It's time to move over, Florida Man . You must now officially make room for Long Island Man. Or, to be more precise we suppose, you must make room for Short Long Island Man, based on a hilarious/disturbing new video that has gone very viral in a very short period of time. In a video posted to Twitter this week, a woman is heard at the Bagel Boss shop in Bay Shore, New York, asking a middle-aged man wearing running shoes, shorts and a striped polo shirt why he thinks it's acceptable to “degrade women.” We don't know the circumstances that prompted this question… only that it led to an epic tirade in response. “Degrade – why is it okay for women to say, 'Oh you’re five feet on dating sites, you should be dead,'” the man fires back as he hurls a newspaper he was holding to the floor. “That's okay?” Wait, what, the woman responds? No one at the store said anything like that. “Women in general have said it on dating sites. You think I'm making that sh-t up,” the patron screams back while throwing his arms in the air. “Everywhere I go I get the same f-cking smirk with the biting lip.” This is actually pretty sad. The poor guy clearly has understandable self-esteem issues… which is not an excuse for the way he acted here. But it's still something everyone viewing the footage ought to consider. Another customer then interjects, telling the man to “calm down.” But this has the opposite effect. “Shut your mouth. You're not God or my father or my boss,” he yells. When another customer also tells the man to chill out, his anger only reaches a new level. “Dude you want to step outside? You want to step outside? Huh? I'm not scare of you, pal.” The third time, however, is NOT the charm for this guy. After telling yet another patron to also “shut up” and challenging him to a fight, the bitter dating site user gets tackled to the grond. Hard. As you might expect, and mostly understand, the Internet is having a field day with this video. To wit: But we sort of have two different reactions: FIRST, imagine if this were an overweight woman, responding in sadness and anger over how she is looked at by men. We somehow doubt folks would be mocking her in the same way. SECOND, couldn't you see this guy going on some sort of shooting spree in the near future? Based on the domestic violence history of nearly all mass shooters, toxic masculinity is to blame for this epidemic as much as any other societal issue. The guy already felt snubbed by the opposite sex. Now, he probably feels like the laughing stock of pretty much everyone out there. It's scary to consider. Source: David Wolff – Patrick / Getty A$AP Rocky and his ongoing ordeal in Sweden has sparked the creation of a petition to hopefully spring the rapper from a reportedly poorly-kept prison. So far, the petition has over 370,000 signatures and counting, all in hopes that it gets the attention of officials in the European nation. From the Change.org petition: Upon being detained, Rocky was denied his request to counsel which is in violation of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which Sweden is a signatory. Everyone has the same rights to be treated fairly upon detainment and should be given fair and equal access to such rights. Since, he has been allowed to visit with a U.S. Embassy Consult and attorney, but only in the presence of Swedish officials. It is extremely troubling and worrisome that the laws are not being applied equally in these circumstances. On Monday, July 8th, we filed an appeal with the Swedish Supreme Court to have Rocky released from the inhumane conditions and the clear violation of human rights. They rejected the filing, which means Rocky will remain in prison for two weeks. The conditions of the facility are horrific. Some of the inhumane conditions Rocky and his colleagues are facing at the Stockholm Detention Center include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions, access to palatable and life sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions. According to the petition description, Rocky could face an additional two weeks in the prison according to the prosecutor’s wishes to extend the trial until August.
