New Podcast Dares To Take Mom/Daughter Conversations To A Whole New Level

Go here to read the rest:

Source: Derrick Davis / Derrick Davis Fresh off the heels of Mother’s Day weekend, a new podcast, “Talk To Your Mom” has launched to encourage adult children to have more transparent conversations with their mothers. “Talk To Your Mom,” a home for conversation where generational knowledge is wealth, is the brainchild of writer, host and producer Keyaira Kelly , and her mom, Tarawoner Kelly , lifecoach and founder of TYL Foundation. Each episode, Keyaira and Tarawoner tackle raw and candid discussions about traditionally taboo mom/daughter topics including sex, love, self-worth, spirituality, healing and trauma. Each episode is driven by a question, with an invitation for listeners to go out and challenge themselves to dive deep with their mamas too. “In the last couple of years, I have become aware of the privilege it is to have a mom who sees me not just as her child, but as a woman with her own hopes, fears and dreams,” Keyaira said of the project. “My goal is that these episodes will inspire other moms and their kids to get to know each other on a deeper level. I really feel where there is vulnerability, there is healing.” While Keyaira fills the discussions with modern millennial wisdom, Tarawoner serves as both an inspiration to mothers about how to be more transparent with their kids, and also as a surrogate mom for adult listeners who may find it impossible to have real talk with a mother figure. “Just be open and honest about what you’ve been through,” Tarawoner advises moms. “Talk To Your Mom” to me is about intergenerational relationship. It’s a way to communicate revelation knowledge to your offspring about your life lessons so that future generations will be able to give the perfect gift of openness to their kids,” she explains. “Being able to speak more candidly to my daughters without judgement is priceless to me. I want to see love and compassion move through these relationships so they can become whole and rich”. The first episode of season 1, titled “Mama, Tell Me About The First Time You Had Sex,” is live now on Apple and Spotify . You can follow “Talk To Your Mom” on both Instagram and Twitter.  Watch more from the duo below:

Report: ‘Empire’ To Be Canceled After Season 6

More:

Source: Michael Tran/ Getty Images / Getty Images Less than two weeks after announcing a renewal for a new season, FOX has revealed that Empire ‘s swan song will be with season 6. Deadline reports that the “groundbreaking, cultural phenomenon” is getting the axe once season 6 concludes, months after Jussie Smollett ‘s public ouster from the show and more. The show was created by Lee Daniels . “We are turning the final season into a large TV event, we are trying to go out guns a blazing,” Charlie Collier, head of Fox Entertainment said on the call of Empire ‘s 20-episode last round “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve,” the CEO added. The news follows the cancellation of Daniels’ other Fox led hip-hop drama, Star which was canceled after three seasons. The cancellation of Empire seems shocking as a little less than three seasons ago, it was a ratings and cultural juggernaut that established the careers of Smollett, Bryshere Gray and elevated Taraji P. Henson into even more of a household name. Due to sagging ratings and Smollett’s criminal case in Chicago over an alleged hate crime, people have soured on the show.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 Review: What’s Love Got to Do with It?

Many years ago on The Office, a question was posed to Michael Scott: Would you rather be loved or feared? “Easy. Both,” he replied. “I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.” On  Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 , however, it was finally made frustratingly and painfully clear: Daenerys Targaryen is no Michael Scott. In the most telling scene of the penultimate installment, Dany is pissed that Jon Snow spilled his all his heritage tea to his siblings, telling her nephew and lover after burning Varys alive for his betrayal: “This is a victory for [Sansa]. Now she knows what happens when people hear the truth about you. Far more people in Westeros love you than love me. I don’t have love here. I only have fear.” Jon says he loves her. He assures Dany that she is, and always will be, his Queen. “Is that all I am to you? Your queen?” Dany responds, leaning in for an incestuous makeout session that gets rebuffed. “Alright then,” she says. “Let it be fear.” This is when it’s made clear just what will happen to King’s Landing … and also where Game of Thrones decides to destroy Dany’s character once and for all. First of Her Name? The Unburnt? Queen of Meereen? Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men? Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea? Breaker of Chains? Mother of Dragons? Dany can now add Stereotypical and Sexist Portrayer of What the Writers Apparently Think Happens When a Woman Isn’t Love by a Man Exactly How She Wants To Be. Is that all she is to Jon? His Queen? That’s all Dany has wanted to be to anyone since Season 1. The Dany that has been presented to viewers for seven-plus seasons was never about love. She was never driven by this concept or emotion. She was ruthless, she was calculating and she was focused on her self-proclaimed destiny of sitting on the Iron Throne — but she was also about fighting for the innocent. What happened to the woman who freed slaves? Who talked about breaking the wheel? She was replaced on this final season by someone who claimed to Sansa weeks ago that she only chose to fight the White Walkers because she was just so smitten with Jon Snow — and who chose to go completely, totally and utterly off the rails on this episode because she was just so unloved. The abrupt character change has been more brutal to watch than any beheading. As you must know by now if you’re reading this, Team Winterfell successfully defeated the Golden Army and Cersei’s soldiers, largely thanks to Dany finally remembering that her dragon can shoot fire at enemies. The other side had given up. The bell signaling as much had been rung. But Dany needed to make her future peons fear her. She needed to kill thousands of innocents now so that thousands more could grow up without a tyrants rule down the line, according to her own warped logic from earlier in the episode. So The Mad Queen finally embraced this nickname and went all Dracarys on the men, women and children of King’s Landing. It made no sense. It turned an admirably strong and powerful woman into someone so scorned by her boyfriend that she decided to go crazy. Viewers can argue all they want about whether this has been teased since the beginning; since all that talk about Dany’s father, “The Mad King,” and how Targaryen blood is basically tainted with violence and instability. But Dany knew this about her family, vowed to remain above it all and continually followed through, staying rational and in control while doing what she felt necessary to achieve her dream. Then George R.R. Martin failed to finish his last book, the creators were forced to come up with their own ending and have dropped the ball here with not just Daenerys, but with Jamie as well. Talk about an even more abrupt and ridiculous character change! We spent season upon season watching Jamie Lannister evolve. One of the show’s most impressive accomplishments was turning Jamie from a renowned King Slayer and Attempted Child Killer into someone who knighted Brienne, realized the many errors of his evil sister-banging ways and was not dedicated to fighting for what is good and right. Until, that is, Sansa stated the obvious last week about how Cersei would be killed and then Jamie simply chose to be “hateful” again, breaking the heart of Brienne (another character ruined this season) and returning home to try and save Cersi. The siblings ended up dying together when the Red Keep crashed down upon them toward the end of Dany’s attack — but our hope for Jamie’s previously-well-earned redemption died long before that. What a mess. Did Martin explain his planned ending to producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and they were forced to reverse-engineer their own finale as a result? It seems very possible. There’s no way these two writers thought they’d have to come up with their own ending when they started working on the project. We can therefore understand the corner the show was perhaps backed into, but that doesn’t make the actul viewing of an episode such as this any more entertaining or any less frustrating. Dany has been a compassionate and harsh aspiring ruler; those two adjectives do not need to be in conflict with each other. Jamie has been a flawed, but developing and remorseful soldier; he had come the farthest of anyone on the show. And then, over the course of 80 minutes, the writers set fire to all that had been accomplished between these two fan favorites, setting up a finale that feels predictable ( Jon is clearly going to kill Dany , right?), anticlimactic and, worst, of all, unearned. For All The Motherless Folks Out There: Tupac Cares, If Don’t Nobody Else Care

Visit link:

Source: Tim Mosenfelder / Getty It can be pretty difficult to watch folks share beautiful photos with their moms or even reminisce about moments with their mother when your mom is no longer here. “Mother’s day can be a very hard day if you’ve lost your mom, or if you don’t have a good relationship with her. if any of you need a mom today i’m happy to be that for you, I love you all”- @HolyShnitt But don’t fret. According to Jane Greer, Ph.D., a New York-based marriage and family therapist: “It can be really, really hard to go about celebrating the day, especially if you’ve recently lost your mother,” she tells us. “And I recognize that. But it’s so important to do so. It’s so important to continue to celebrate your mother and her spirit, and to realize that even though you won’t be together in a physical sense this year, she’s with you in spirit.” It may not be the easiest thing to do, but there are plenty of ways to navigate Mother’s Day without a mom. Greer added: “It can be incredibly helpful and calming to engage in an activity that you and she used to do together, especially if a sentimental location is involved. If you used to celebrate by taking her out to brunch at a favorite local spot, continue ordering her beloved blueberry pancakes. If you used to frequent a certain coffee shop together, head back there today and drink a cup in her honor. Remind yourself that her legacy lives on in all of these things.” Whatever you decide, just know that this Mother’s Day, you are not alone and an extra prayer goes up for you today. “Happy Mother’s Day to the sisters who take care of their siblings almost as much, if not more than their mom, your family would be lost without you.” @Heartile “Happy Mother’s Day to all my beautiful friends. Hope you get to do whatever you want to do today! Also for those of us who have lost our beloved mothers, hugs and I feel they are always with us. Their smile, their guidance, their love” @LondonGal_28 If you’re a motherless child this Mother’s Day, try to indulge in things that lift your spirits and honor your beloved mommy. And don’t think for a second that people have forgotten about you on this day. Let Tupac Shakur ‘s sweet message to the motherless carry your spirit on this special day!

T.I. Awards Single Mother With $25K Scholarship

A tlanta-bred rapper T.I. tragically lost his sister Precious Harris in February, but he is turning his pain into something positive and ensuring that her legacy is kept alive through the creation of a scholarship fund. According to NBC News T.I.—whose real name is Clifford Harris —recently awarded a college student with $25,000 to put towards her education. Rapper T.I. is keeping the memory of his late sister alive by awarding an Arkansas college student and single mother a $25,000 scholarship. https://t.co/JVbR44KUQL — NBC News (@NBCNews) May 10, 2019 The Precious Chapman Scholarship is a collaborative effort between Harris, the United Negro College Fund, and VH1. Tierani Scott —a college junior who attends Philander Smith College in Arkansas—was awarded with the scholarship during VH1’s Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Mom special. Scott, who is a single mother, exudes excellence academically and in her personal life. She serves as the president of her class, has an outstanding grade point average, and leads a group called Queen Women’s Empowerment Organization all while balancing motherhood. She majors in sociology. Harris said that he wanted to select a recipient who embodied the same values as his late sister. “This year’s recipient is like my beloved sister,” he said. “It is our hope that this scholarship will help her continue on her path to do great things in her future.” Philanthropy is nothing new to Harris. He has continually utilized his platform as an avenue to give back. In April he teamed up with Scrapp Deleon and the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church to bail out non-violent offenders in time for Easter. Earlier this year he was honored by the Georgia Senate for his dedication to bettering the Atlanta community. “So many times, our answer to fixing things is “I’m gonna make some money and leave all these people behind.” There’s rarely an intent to get rich and make where you came from better for generations to come,” he said in an interview with Inc. “It’s extremely ambitious, but I’ve worked myself to a place where I should be the one leading the charge. In my mind, that’s what it means to be king.” SEE ALSO: T.I. Teams Up With Georgia Church To Bail Out Nonviolent Offenders For Easter Georgia Senate Honors T.I. We send our love and full support to our brother as he embarks on this self care journey. We love you all and can’t wait to see you in Jacksonville! Love, B2K The move comes after a recent domestic violence arrest and comments several weeks ago from Raz B on Instagram stating that he didn’t feel safe because he thought Chris Stokes was around and that he would be quitting the tour. The following day all four group members made a video clearing things up to assure fans the tour would continue with Raz. BUT an inside source tells BOSSIP exclusively that despite that united front, Raz B’s stressors came from within the band, saying one of his fellow members has been trolling Raz B, who suffers from extreme PTSD. Pua Magasiva Dies; Power Rangers Star Was Only 38

Pua Magasiva, an actor who has starred in multiple Power Rangers television shows, as well as the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street, sadly passed away this. He was 38 years old. Details about what transpired are still being made known, but here is what we’ve learned so far: The New Zealand Herald writes that police were called to a home in Wellington, New Zealand early on Saturday morning… where they found Magasiva unresponsive. An official spokesperson for the police department told the newspaper that they found “no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death,” and that it would soon be referring the case to the coroner. Magasiva portrayed the Shane Clarke, the Red Wind Ranger, in “Power Rangers Ninja Storm,” which marked the 11th television installment of the popular superhero franchise. The Samoan-born actor had also appeared as nurse Vinnie Kruse in hundreds of episodes of “Shortland Street,” one of New Zealand’s most popular daytime dramas. He debuted in the role in 2003, at the height of his fame, and has starred in the show since his return in 2012. “We are all absolutely devastated at the tragic news regarding Pua Magasiva,” the soap opera’s production company wrote on social media Saturday, adding: “Pua was a much loved member of the South Pacific Pictures’ family for many years and our hearts and thoughts go out to Pua’s family at this time.” For Magasiva, this family is comprised of wife Lizz Sadler, a seven-year-old daughter from his previous marriage; and his brother Robbie. (Sadler also has a daughter from a previous relationship.) Magasiva and Sadler got married last April, nearly 10 months after meeting in October of 2016, according to Flava, a New Zealand radio station where Magasiva had co-hosted a morning show prior to his death. The pair had met after Sadler began following the actor on Instagram. “Family is everything! Through the struggles, troubles through it all they will always be there for you… I love you all to the moon and back #mylove,” wrote Magasiva as a caption to the sweet photo above last April. He last posted to Instagram several days prior to his death, when he and his loved ones took a trip together outside Wellington. This photo is from that vacation: Wrote Power Rangers co-star Jason Chan on Facebook after this tragic news went public: “Incredibly sad to hear that one of our ranger family is gone. It will never be the same again. PUA you will be so dearly missed. “You were the center of energy on set and off. Always laughing, giggling and involved in practical jokes.” Added Shane Cortese, one of Magasiva’s co-stars from the television program Outrageous Fortune: My heart goes out to the Magasiva family and the extended television alumni who had the honor of seeing the glint in his eye and the sound of his hearty laugh close hand.RIP my friend #puamagasiva @ShortlandTweet. May Pua Magasiva rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam
