It’s been less than a week since Meghan Markle welcomed her first child , but already, little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor has stirred up a controversy as big as his nine-syllable name. First, there’s the name itself, which many are interpreting as Meghan and Harry’s way of giving the middle finger to their British haters . And then there’s the fact that a crucial honorific seems to be missing from the little bloke’s lengthy moniker. Yes, as you may have noticed, there’s no “prince” in front of little Archie’s name. If, like us, you’re some sort of ignorant American rube, you may have assumed that such titles are simply a matter of heredity — Harry was a prince, so it stands to reason that his son would be as well. But it turns out there are no hard-and-fast rules for this sort of thing. There are several reasons why Lil Arch might be forced to go through life with a regular-ass peasant name, and even though we may never know the truth, pundits peddling their wares in the age of hot takes are very pissed off about two of the possibilities. For starters, it’s possible that the Queen denied Archie a title due to his American parentage. Of course, even the people who proposed that possibility have mostly acknowledged that it would be wildly out of character for QE2. Which is perhaps how we wound up with the theory that it’s all Prince William’s doing. As you’re probably aware, Will has become the resident villain of Kensington Palace in recent weeks, thanks largely to rumors of his affair with Rose Hanbury . As a result, some folks are under the impression that Will appealed to his grandmother to deny Archie a title on the grounds that he’s seventh in line for the throne, and will, therefore, spend his life as a “minor royal,” on par with Prince Andrew’s kids. It would be the latest volley in the supposedly ongoing feud between William and Harry — but it would also be pretty damn implausible. But those theorists are on to something in one sense: Archie will be a minor royal, which is why the most likely theory holds that Meghan and Harry decided their child should not have a royal title. “The fact that they have chosen not to use a title suggests they want this baby to have a relatively ordinary life,” royal historian Professor Kate Williams tells Vanity Fair. “When Archie is older he will likely have to go out and get a job. “He will be a minor royal and will have to be prepared for a life of work. If the Commonwealth becomes a smaller entity, there will be less work for the royals overseas.” But that’s not to say that Archie will be anything less than an essential and widely beloved member of the royal family in his adult years: “He is the Queen’s first biracial grandchild,” says Professor Williams. “This is a historically important baby. He affects a multicultural bridge.” This may not be exactly how a famed royal historian would put it, but that trumps the hell out of any lame-ass title. We all love Paola Mayfield. We stand by her when she’s mom-shamed by morons over her outfits or for taking breastfeeding pics. But the 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? star has made a statement that even her most devoted fans are struggling to defend. Pao is using her platform to champion the “rights” of anti-vaxxers to endanger their own children and countless others. Oh no. … Paola was asked what she thinks of anti-vaxxers and, taking to her Instagram Story, she shared her alarming opinion. “They have the right to choose what they want,” Paola asserts. “And,” she insists, they have a “right to do “what they feel is safe for their loved ones.” Astoundingly, Pao even thinks that these plague enthusiasts should be allowed to do so “without being judged!” That’s a hard no, Paola. Paola then does her best to convince her fans and followers that she is not speaking of herself, here. “I’m not anti-vax,” Paola claims. She has said this in the past, but the truth is … complicated, as we will explain. “But believe me,” Paola writes. “I will do my research before putting something in my little one!” On top of everything else, her use of the word research is drawing some unflattering responses. A couple of months ago, Paola was mom-shamed for vaccinating baby Axel . It was the correct thing to do and the responsible thing for her to do. Backlash from people prone to hysteria and vulnerable to misinformation campaigns was expected, unfortunately. But some of the ire wasn’t over Pao and Russ’ decision to vaccinate — not exactly. Some 90 Day Fiance fans were concerned because Paola noted that Russ had been reading a discredited book by a noted anti-vaxxer. At the time, Paola said that she and Russ would pick and choose which vaccines baby Axel would receive and when he would receive them. Spacing out vaccines against a doctor’s advice can endanger your child, especially in this era of outbreaks. And skipping some vaccinations without a medical justification? You know how you’re always supposed to take the entire round of antibiotics, even if you start feeling better? It’s like that. Unless there’s a pressing medical reason otherwise — like, one confirmed by your child’s actual doctor — you can’t just pick and choose. Medicine is not a buffet. Paola is a smart woman, and she’s been very careful about not giving specifics about her plans for Axel. But by expressing support for anti-vaxxers, she is making a clear statement: She values the feelings of anti-vaxxers more than the actual, real life safety of their children and of other children. You know how you don’t have to be a nazi to help the alt right — you just have to defend their right to advocate genocide? Well, anti-vaxxers are the same way. You can’t suppor their “right” to do harm in a vacuum. While we’re mentioning politics, we should note that there isn’t a clear political association with anti-vaxxers. They seem to be an alarming 10% of the population and are represented by only a few more percentage points on the conservative side. That’s a testament to Horseshoe Theory but also a glaring idictment of our education system. Real talk: children with cancer, compromised immune systems, or certain rare allergies cannot be vaccinated. Those kids need to be surrounded by people who cannot be carriers so that they will not die . Vaccinations are not a personal choice because they impact others. Little People, Big World is a reality television show. This is not exactly a groundbreaking statement. As such, however, the long-running TLC series has faced the same criticism and the same questions that have faced all other reality television entries on the small screen. Which is to say that many viewers are often wondering the following: Is the series scripted? This speculation was spurred on about three years ago when Jacob Roloff quit the show , resigning with a controversial Instagram post that he claimed at the time called out the program for exactly what it is: An example of total phoney baloney, according to Jacob. “Producers have to try to get us to follow the talking points,” he shared in this message, jumping way high on a pedestal and adding: “For me, noticing how the agenda of the crew doesn’t work well with the health & happiness of our family is what made me decide quite a while ago that I could not be a part of it as soon as I was able.” In this same post, Jacob referred to “storyline” and wrote of his loved ones: “They are the Roloff Characters and I have scarcely anything in common with them.” Years later, Jacob would sort of apologize for these remarks; or at least explain that he had since grown up and regretted making them. He’s now on great terms with these same loved ones, but the issue remains. The question hangs over the Roloffs. How much of what we see each week is natural and normal? And how much is produced or even flat-out written for Amy, Matt and their kids? “For the most part, we keep it real,” Amy Roloff told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “My kids are real. They’re grounded … Granted, here we’re filming three hours and then take the one moment that people will say, ‘Oh, it’s scripted.’ “I say, ‘No, it didn’t feel like the three hours that I was in.’ I like to think that we’re pretty honest, we’re pretty real – at least I am – sometimes to a fault.” In other words: The show is edited. And these edits may be done in such a way to emphasize a certain topic or disagreement in order to boost interest — such as Matt and Amy’s fight a couple weeks ago over the farm . But nothing you see is fake by any definition of that word. How has a show that started off as an idea for a one-off documentary lasted this long? How has it actually set a Guiness World Record ? Hannah Payne , 21, reportedly saw the collision that police in Clayton County described as a minor fender bender before she followed Kenneth Herring , 62, for a mile, blocked his car with hers, approached him and killed him with her gun. That was after she called 911, which police said typically advise callers against approaching people they’re calling about. Payne is white and Herring is Black. Hannah Payne has been charged with murder for killing a Black man who she saw get in a hit and run car accident. Considering the egregious nature of the charges and the current racial climate in the U.S., tweets that suspected racism were all but obligatory. Against The World (@chillin662) May 10, 2019 However, emails have been sent to this writer claiming that Payne was the farthest thing from racist and accusing NewsOne of falsely reporting that she was racist. (NewsOne never reported she was racist.) One email said that the mere suggestion Payne could be behind a racist shooting of a Black man was ludicrous in part because her Facebook page showed she had many Black friends. However, a search for Payne’s Facebook turned up empty and a request by NewsOne to interview the people who sent the emails was denied. Because of that, the emails sent to NewsOne have been paraphrased and not quoted. Another lengthier email said the comparisons NewsOne made between Payne and George Zimmerman were misguided. Zimmerman was the volunteer neighborhood watchman in Florida who followed and killed Trayvon Martin in 2012 even after a 911 operator told him not to approach the unarmed Black teen. He was eventually acquitted of murder under Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law. Georgia also has a Stand Your Ground law , though it was unclear if Payne planned to use that for her defense. The email went on to add that Payne has always been romantically attracted to Black males, using that as a primary reason why the shooting could not have possibly been racially motivated. Another email said Payne lived in a neighborhood where people of all races live together. It was unclear where Payne called home, but the latest Census data for Clayton County showed that more than 71 percent of its residents were listed as being Black. One email blamed Herring, a senior citizen who may or may not have even realized he had hit another car, for driving for a mile after the collision despite there being no reports that he sped away. If Herring did speed away, that would presumably mean that Payne had to drive faster (read: speed) than he was driving just to catch up with him before she used her car to block him in. Insurance companies have long advised drivers who witness a hit and run to document the license plate number of the offending driver and report it to authorities. For instance, State Farm said on its website that drivers involved in and witnesses of a hit and run should not “follow the fleeing driver. Leaving the scene of the accident could put you in a compromising position: You’ll miss getting eyewitness accounts — and police could question who’s really at fault.” The email also wondered why Herring would make such a decision to keep driving. The email insisted that had roles been reversed, Payne would have remained on the scene of her car accident. It went on to say that she carried her legally licensed gun to protect herself from people like Herring. The author of the email didn’t respond to questions about what exactly that meant. All of the emails shared one common refrain: trying to discredit the way that NewsOne has covered the shooting as potentially being motivated by race. That was even as most mainstream media outlets have seemingly ignored the story or moved on to other current events. Upon first glance, there was no apparent direct evidence to suggest the shooting was racially motivated. But the circumstantial evidence, bolstered by the tragic trend of white people not in law enforcement trying to police Black people , appeared to be quite strong. That was especially true when factoring in how the shooting took place in Georgia, a state that prides itself on its role in the Confederacy. In fact, the Georgia House voted in late March “to increase the penalties against those who damage the state’s public and private monuments — and make it more difficult to remove or relocate Confederate markers ,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported at the time. That was as other, more progressive states have moved to remove Confederate monuments. More recently, a mayor in a rural Georgia town rejected a Black man’s job application specifically because of his race. Clayton County is located just 15 miles south of Atlanta, the state’s capital city where Black residents have long thrived socially and economically. But racism has persisted across the state, in both rural and urban locations, much like the rest of the country. Considering those facts, it was nearly impossible to rule out race as a motivational factor for Payne’s lethal pursuit of Herring. Payne’s lawyer said his client was simply trying to do the right thing. “It just seems like an unfortunate situation of a good Samaritan trying to stop a person on a hit-and-run,” Matt Tucker said. A witness described Payne to WSB-TV as the aggressor who immediately claimed after Herring was shot that he was the one who pulled the trigger. Given what is known about the shooting, it may come across as curious why more media outlets were not covering it. Aside from a handful of initial news reports following the news of Payne’s arrest, little other information has been reported with few, if any, follow-up news articles. Even social media was relatively silent despite that egregious nature of the shooting that typically makes for rabid fodder on Twitter and Facebook. Regardless of what investigators discover, it was doubtful that Payne could be charged with a hate crime even if the shooting fit the criteria for it. That was because the Georgia House only recently passed a bill for what could become the state’s first hate crimes legislation. The bill must be approved by the state Senate before it can become law. As of Friday afternoon, Payne remained locked up in Clayton County Jail without bond. Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits.” LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault also added: “Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real CEO and a terrific leader.
