Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy featured Meredith Grey risking it all, and it could cost her not only her job but also her freedom. But what pushed the hero to make a risky decision? A patient without insurance, of course! The patient, Gabby, and her father arrived at the hospital and turned to Meredith and Alex. They came to the United States with the aim of getting her care, but things were not working out. All of their resources were depleted, and insurance wasn’t working out for them. Mer and Alex found a mass in the girl’s colon, meaning that it was time to operate. The father struggled to get coverage from the state, prompting Meredith to say that she would find a way to sort things out. What did Meredith do to get the surgery completed? She put Ellis’ name on the paperwork, meaning her insurance could be used because it covered family members. Richard found out about it, and he was pissed. “The system failed him. The system is broken,” she yelled at him. “We know it is. So what does that say about us if we don’t fix it?” Richard struggled to contain his fury, primarily because he didn’t want anyone to learn about it. He had a risky plan to save Meredith’s career. If they could make the patient appear to be sicker, keep her in hospital for 30 days, then a new state program would activate. That would mean the patient would be covered, wouldn’t be deported and would be entitled to help. Meredith was upset, but knew what she did was the right thing to do. She turned to DeLuca, expecting him to be furious at her. But he took her by surprise, dropping the L-bomb on her because it reiterated that he knew she was a good person. “I’m in awe of what you did today,” he said. “I was afraid if I opened my mouth, the only thing that was going to come out was if I loved you.” “Well, okay,” Meredith replied. “Glad we cleared that up.” Elsewhere, Jo started to return to her old ways, and that was good news for her friends and loved one. She helped Alex get good news for one of his patients in the form of getting a donor … or so she thought. In a wild moment, she realized that she had found someone who needed a donor, not someone willing to give up an organ. Jo desperately turned to Teddy for assistance, but there was nothing that could be done. Teddy went on to tell the patient’s mother the truth. Jo self-destructed in front of the patient, and Alex walked in. He had no idea how he could help his wife with this one. What did you think of all the action? Hit the comments below. We might have a full-blown pageant enthusiast in the White House , but even so, beauty-based competitions no longer occupy a place at the forefront of our national consciousness. Every once in a while, however, a contestant comes along that captures the hearts and minds of the American public. On Thursday night, 28-year-old attorney Chelsie Kryst was crowned Miss USA 2019. What might be even more impressive, however, is that she managed to win over even the most cynical tweeters. Chelsie was crowned by her predecessor, Miss USA 2018 Sarah Rose Summers, in a ceremony hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey. Pageant experts say she likely secured her victory with her articulate response when asked to describe millennials: “I would say that my generation is innovative,” Kryst told the judges. “I’m standing here in Nevada, in the state that has the first majority female legislature in this entire country. Mine is the first generation to have that forward-looking mindset that has inclusivity, diversity, and strength and empowered women,” she added. “I’m looking forward to continued progress with my generation.” The recipient of both a law degree and an MBA from Wake Forest University, Kryst is a civil rights litigation attorney who’s licensed to practice law in both South Carolina and North Carolina. She’s also a former Division I athlete, having competed in track and field during her college years. If you’re already blown away and wondering how Kryst has managed to cram all of this into a single lifetime, buckle in because there’s more to come. Chelsie is also the founder and chief contributor of the fashion site White Collar Glam. “Blogging about fashion in the workplace is important to me because I want women to be armed for the workplace in clothing that will put us in the best possible position to achieve success,” she says. With her win at the Miss USA competition, Kryst is now set to represent America in the Miss Universe pageant held later this year. She says she intends to put her legal career on hold and move to New York City in preparation. That’s also a good excuse to dodge the White House invitation that’s heading her way as we speak. “No time for Big Macs, Mr. President! I have a competition to prepare for!”

As a woman, you just think things happen naturally and I felt like I was damaged. I felt like I was broken. I felt like, oh well maybe I’m not good enough. Like literally, it’s a very sad, hurtful thing, but the more I held onto it the worse I actually felt about about myself. And people, since I’ve shared, people have been so sweet to me. According to TMZ , sources told them that the couple along with Lena Waithe , Ludacris and Janelle Monae , helped donate to Shelby’s mother, Camika Shelby , who put her son to rest in a beautiful ceremony on Saturday (April 27). The family also raised over $40,000 from a separate GoFundMe campaign. View this post on Instagram Today I got the opportunity to celebrate the life of Nigel Shelby. . I pray that no other child will ever have to endure what this young baby dealt with. We gotta love on our own! Check on your friends and loved ones. You never know what someone is going through. #ripnigel A post shared by Pinky Cole (@pinky907) on Apr 27, 2019 at 12:09pm PDT Last month, Nigel sadly made headlines when he took his life after battling depression and being bullied for his sexual orientation by students at Huntsville High School. Apparently, Nigel came out two years ago. The Alabama teen’s mother told ABC News that her son was a “a vibrant, outgoing and fun-loving child who would do anything he could to make others smile.” “Nigel was a sweetheart. He loved everybody, he would help anybody. He was an angel,” Shelby said. “I just wish people could’ve seen how special he was while he was still here.” Camika also shared that her son was seeking counseling and was close to being medicated for his mental health issues. But he still struggled with the fact that he was gay. “I wish he could have been fully accepted while he was here because it was hard for him. He struggled,” she said. “He used to ask me sometimes ‘Mama, why couldn’t I just be normal?’ And I’m like, ‘Baby, you are normal. Who you choose to love has nothing to do with the person that you are.’” View this post on Instagram I would give anything for just one more hug A post shared by ~NigelShelby (@lovelynigel) on Apr 23, 2019 at 9:52pm PDT “I’m truly blessed that I got to spend 15 years with this child, but it also makes me so sad to know that he’s no longer with me. He was my motivation to keep going. He always kept me lifted up, so to not have that anymore is heartbreaking,” she said. Even with a loving and accepting parent, Nigel still took his life, which is why it’s so incredibly important that as a community we hold up and love our Black LGBT children. Every single last one of us. A2016 report released by the Center for American Progress found that Black LGBTQ folks experience higher rates of homelessness during youth than their peers; have higher rates of unemployment or underemployment; and face overall lower rates of pay and higher rates of poverty. Another report conducted by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network found that nearly half of Black/African-American LGBTQ students felt unsafe due to their sexual orientation; over a third felt unsafe because of their gender expression and nearly 40 percent of Black/ African-American students were more likely to experience in-school discipline. So it’s clear that our children need us now more than ever. All Black lives matter. Rest in power Nigel. At the Billboard Music Awards, Taylor Swift put on a dazzling performance of “Me!” alongside Brendan Urie. It was gorgeous. It was coordinated. It was … a total plagiarism of Beyonce’s performance? That’s what the Beyhive is saying — that Taylor Swift gentrified Bey’s famous Coachella routine. Taylor’s live performance of “Me!” featured Taylor walking onto the stage with a bright light behind her. She had her legs parted with a hand on her hip and most of her legs bare. To either side of her were drummers wearing pastel pink. It was a dazzling performance (especially the part with the umbrellas), but a number of people took to Twitter to complain. Why? Because they believe that Taylor ripped of Beyonce’s act from Coachella 2018. Beyonce stunned the Coachella crowd last year with her carefully coordinated performance. She was surrounded by an entire marching band, clad all in yellow, whose dance routine was as flawless as Bey herself. Ever since Bring It On (and, frankly, before that), people have been on the lookout for white performers ripping off black talent. So the Beyhive took to social media and began to share their suspicions that Taylor had stolen Bey’s act. No, not suspicion — accusation . “I don’t know if y’all are seeing this,” wrote one Twitter user. “But Taylor Swift is gentrifying Beyonce’s Coachella performance right now,” the person accused. Obviously, the tweet is having a little fun with the meaning of the word gentrify , but the meaning rings clear. Is this yet another case of a white performer robbing a black artist blind to recycle the act under a white veneer? Not if Taylor’s fans have anything to say about it. After the “Mayochella” allegations were hurled, Swifties took to Twitter to hit back. One of Taylor’s defenders mocked the accusations with a deeply sarcastic tweet. “Beyonce invented standing on stage with two legs how could taylor do that ???” the tweet begins. The joke continues: “SHE’S A COPY CAT BEYONCE DID THAT FIRST.” That’s an exaggeration, of course, but not too far of a stretch from the claim leveled by Taylor’s critics. Thankfully, there were plenty of voices of reason in the mix. “Girl, it’s drums…” one tweet begins. That’s right up there with Kim there’s people that are dying . “Beyonce wasn’t the first to use drums in a performance and Taylor definitely isn’t either,” the tweet points out. Elaborating, the tweeter explains: “Beyonce had a whole as band and Taylor had just drums.” “Y’all need to stop comparing the most general things,” the tweet advises. “Just because you don’t like Taylor.” As to why some people don’t like Taylor, it’s complicated but probably just stems from overexposure from late 2014 through 2016. Some people just get tired of hearing about someone a lot. After so many mentions, you either stan someone or loathe them. But the end of that reasonable tweet really hits the nail on the head. It is 100% okay to not like or even dislike a singer, a song, a performance, or any other piece of media. But you don’t have to pretend that it’s problematic or somehow immoral in order to justify your dislike. Some things just aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. WARNING: The following post contains graphic details of the abuse and execution of a defenseless animal. Yes, David Eason is even sicker than we thought, y'all. As you've no doubt heard by now, Eason shot and killed his wife's pet dog, a small Frenchie named Nugget. Nauseating new details of the situation are still rolling in, and frankly, we can't believe what we're hearing. Oh, and on top of everything else, Jenelle is hinting that she has cancer. You can check out the latest information below, but proceed with caution — that trigger warning at the top of the page was no joke. 1. David the Monster We’ve known for quite some time that David is a genuinely horrible human being. But somehow, the news that he murdered his wife’s pet dog still came as a shock. 2. RIP, Nugget On Wednesday, we learned that David had shot and killed Nugget on the property he and Jenelle own in North Carolina. 3. Peddling BS David claimed his actions were the result of Nugget biting his 2-year-old daughter Ensley on the face — he even posted this video as “proof” — but we now know he was lying. 4. Not Smart Enough to Pull This Off For starters, David admitted that the relatively tame incident he captured on video did not take place on the day of the shooting. In fact, it wasn’t even recent. 5. Not Fooling Anyone He also posted this photo of the “injuries” that Ensley sustained from her dog bite. As many commenters have pointed out, there’s no bite mark or punctured skin, and the child does not appear to be injured or upset. 6. The Bullsh-t Artist “I dont give a damn what animal bites my baby on the face,” David dramatically wrote on Instagram AFTER news of the incident went public. “Whether it be your dog or mine, a dog is a dog and I dont put up with that s—t at all.
