Source: JOHANNES EISELE / Getty Cardi B has been attempting to clear her name in the assault case against her where she allegedly ordered the beating of strip club bartenders Jade and Baddie Gi . The Invasion of Privacy star was in court Friday (April 19) but rejected a plea deal that would have given her a misdemeanor charge. TMZ reports : She was all business — decked out in white — as she walked through the rain, and into an NYC courthouse. As you know, Cardi’s accused of ordering an attack on 2 strip club bartenders — Jade and Baddie Gi — last August. Cardi allegedly thought Jade had slept with her man, Offset. Inside, prosecutors tried to play let’s make a deal. The offer — plead guilty to a misdemeanor, and get a conditional discharge. That would mean no jail time, but Cardi would have to stay out of trouble for some period of time. That didn’t appeal to her, and she rejected the deal before they could even discuss how long she’d have to keep her nose clean. The hearing didn’t take long, and Cardi strolled back out … silent as fans and photogs showed her love. Source: Bravo / Getty Tonight’s episode Real Housewives of Atlanta is the final installment of the season 11 reunion, thankfully. It dragged on so long that it seemed like the entire season was the reunion. Anyway, tonight’s episode starts with Porsha calling NeNe out for giving her advice about not putting hands on people but turning around and putting her hands on people. So, you remember the closet incident, right? Turns out, NeNe (allegedly) choked one of the producers, who then had to go to the hospital and chipped a cameraman’s tooth. That was in addition to charging at Kandi and Porsha too. Andy then asks NeNe if she felt bad for putting her hands on people because he’s messy, but of course, NeNe said she doesn’t feel bad. Marlo is egging NeNe on but she gets called out because when that incident happened, you could hear her yelling, “She’s pregnant!” She was talking about Porsha because NeNe charged her at her and managed to pull her belt off. On stage, Marlo claims she doesn’t even remember saying that and that she didn’t see NeNe even touch Porsha. NeNe also plays dumb and says she wasn’t even near Porsha. It was weird. Marlo was NeNe’s hypeman the entire night, but NeNe likes her friends sycophantic so… The entire reunion was pretty much Tanya, Cynthia, Porsha, Kandi and at times, Eva, that NeNe can be foul. They did this last week, and the week after that and guess what, NeNe pretends she doesn’t care and tries to turn this into what she usually does by saying that all the girls on the show love going against her because she’s the Queen Bee. Eva gets her moment to call out NeNe for pretending that her mic was off in order to talk to her that time Eva left their outing to go home because she was tired of them grilling her. NeNe doesn’t think she was wrong in that situation either. Eva explains that she was hurt because she had to learn that NeNe lied to her on TV. Again, NeNe doesn’t care. Then we move on to Eva talking about her domestic violence situation with her ex playing a major role in why he had to move so much. And Marlo chimes in talking about Eva isn’t genuine—as if anyone asked her. In other news, Cynthia’s love life is flourishing. We know she’s planning to marry Mike, which is a big deal because she is pretty much the runaway bride. But her friendship with NeNe is done, once again. This time they fell out over Kenya coming to Cynthia’s party. Basically, Cynthia looked shady because she and Kandi said they were going to pretend they didn’t know Kenya was coming but tonight we learn that the editing played a role in how it looked. According to Kandi, Kenya told her last minute, as in right before she was entering the party, that Kenya was coming. Kandi then passed the word on to Cynthia so that’s when Cynthia said she was just going to pretend she didn’t know Kenya was coming because she didn’t want any drama with NeNe. Kandi and Cynthia both explain that they didn’t intend it to be shady but NeNe doesn’t care. She’s pissed at them for lying—basically doing the same thing she did to Eva. Then there’s another nasty back and forth between Cynthia and NeNe with Marlo yapping in the background as well. Finally, it’s clear that Cynthia is over it, and with NeNe and Marlo acting like Mean Girls, it’s understandable. There’s even one point where Cynthia can be heard saying, “This is not enough money.” Andy gives Cynthia and NeNe a chance to say some closing remarks as the episode winds down. Cynthia acknowledges that she may have looked crazy at the party but that she didn’t intend to hurt NeNe, and that NeNe said some hurtful things too. But Cynthia is ready to move forward since NeNe insists on being evil and bitter. NeNe decides not to address Cynthia at all. Porsha jumps in talking about how sad it is that Cynthia and NeNe are no longer friends, for the umpteenth time, and that she hopes they can get cool again. Whatevs. Finally, We close out the reunion with Porsha leading a prayer because all of them will need it, especially if they’re going to get back together to film season 12. But leave NeNe out of it. She needs a break from the show indefinitely…or forever. Source: Getty Images / Getty Sri Lanka Bombings Leaves Over 200 Dead Celebrations for Easter took a terrible turn in Sri Lanka when a string of explosions ended up leaving over 400 people injured and more than 200 dead. According to reports from BBC , eight bombs were placed in hotels and churches across the country, exploding on Sunday; The explosions appear to have taken place in or around the country’s capital of Colombo. The first attack was reported at Colombo’s popular St Anthony’s Shrine Catholic church, the second was carried out at the St. Sebastian’s church located north of the capital. This was followed by reports that a church in the neighboring town of Batticaloa had been hit. Three high-end hotels in Colombo were also bombed along with another nearby church. The final attack was reportedly carried out by a suicide bomber in a Colombo suburb. Authorities are still gathering information about these terrible incidents, but as of now, it’s being reported that more than 450 people were harmed and at least 207 people are confirmed dead–including 27 foreigners visiting the country. Investigators assume that these terrorist attacks were to target the country’s Christians since congregations were celebrating Easter when the explosions took place. Close to seven people have been arrested so far in connection to the events.
A Black inventor is aiming to teach youth the fundamentals of entrepreneurship through the creation of a board game. According to Black News , Elliott Eddie created The Entrepreneur Game as an educational tool that encompasses information about running a business. He came up with the concept for a board game after noticing the lack of lessons surrounding entrepreneurship within school curriculums. In September, he created a crowdfunding campaign for the creation of The Entrepreneur Game and raised nearly three times more than his campaign goal from supporters across the globe. The game—which was designed for children 12 and older—takes players on an entrepreneurial journey. You start off as the CEO of your own company and throughout the game you go through stages of budgeting, marketing, investing, and negotiating. The goal is to evade going bankrupt. The winner of the game is the individual who has the most assets. “We may learn a few things in school, but one of the subjects it’s unlikely that we’ve been taught is entrepreneurship: how to create and build successful businesses of our own. Many of our schools barely teach our children the skills they need to survive,” Eddie said in a statement. “We owe it to our children and all of our futures to make sure they know that they are capable of creating a successful business. To make sure our children know that they can take their skills, talents and ideas to find a problem and solve it, to find a need and fill it, or to create a market and build it. Our children must grasp that among all of the things they can be now, and as they grow up, an entrepreneur is definitely within their grasp.” Major toy retailers are already eyeing the game to add to their shelves. Gone are the fur coats, gowns and jewelry that typified the gospel and soul singer’s larger than life persona in recent years for the new film “Amazing Grace.” Instead, the then afro-sporting 29-year-old is stripped back and lets her voice do most of the talking. “This Aretha Franklin is a little bit different,” “Amazing Grace” producer Tirrell Whitley told BOSSIP. “She was just coming out of the 60s Black Power Movement, she’s wearing her afro….The experience of Aretha Franklin at the age of 29 at the peak of her power.” Franklin recorded the live performance in 1972 over two nights in a South Central L.A. church in front of an audience that included her father the Rev. C.L. Franklin, gospel greats Clara Ward and Mother Ward, the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts. Because the footage was shot out of sync, it sat in a vault for almost 40 years before a film company was able to sync the footage with the audio. Although the movie does have imperfections like out of focus shots, Whitley said that it was Franklin who pulls everything together. “The great thing is that the film had excellence in the making and her voice carries it through,” he said, adding that Franklin gave the film her blessing before she passed away last year aged 76. Whitley said the film is ideal for sororities, churches and other groups to screen. “This film takes you to church and it ministers to you in a unique way,” he said. “Amazing Grace” is now in theaters nationwide.
Sad news, everyone. Adele — beautiful, amazing, insanely talented and beloved Adele — is getting divorced. Yes, she and Simon Konecki, her partner for the better part of this decade and her husband of two years, are splitting up. The news definitely comes out of nowhere, but then again, these two have always been exceedingly private. They began dating over seven years ago , as we first saw Adele with the philanthropist in January of 2017. Things moved very fast from there, because in October, they welcomed their first child together , a son they named Angelo. Remember, they’re so private that they didn’t even announce the kid’s name, we just figured it out when she was seen rocking an “Angelo” necklace. At some point (seriously, we really know so little about their relationship), they got married. It’s believed this happened sometime in late 2016 or early 2017, because in January of 2017, they were spotted wearing wedding bands. At the Grammy Awards that February, she referred to him as her husband , and a month later, she finally confirmed during a concert that they were husband and wife . “That feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth,” she said then, “and I am addicted to that feeling.” “Obviously I can’t go through with those feelings because I’m married now,” she added. “I’ve found my next person.” In hindsight, that’s definitely a weird comment — was she admitting that she had been falling for other people? Also, don’t people in such committed relationships refer to their partner as just their “person,” not their next person? Well, either way, it’s over now. Adele’s rep made a statement , and in it, he confirmed “Adele and her partner have separated.” “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy.” “There will be no further comment,” the statement concluded. If you keep up closely with Adele, this news may not come as such a shock. Last month, she was in New York, partying with Jennifer Lawrence. And while that alone wouldn’t have been a tip-off that something was amiss, the fact that she was also photographed going into a recording studio without her wedding ring was a pretty big sign. Yep, nobody does breakup music like Adele, and it looks like there’s a definite possibility of getting a new song or two soon. Or maybe even a whole album. Obviously it’s not like we’re glad she’s getting divorced so we can get some incredible breakup album, but in situations like this, you have to look at the silver lining, right? Now, before we start, I urge you to bless your laptop or phone before reading about my experience at the 2019 SXSW Movie Festival in Austin, Texas (where I may or may not have been haunted by a very ashy and very vindictive Mexican ghost named Ll Llorona). For those not hip, La Llorona is a spooky legend passed down through generations that I just learned about a few weeks ago. And yes, she’s probably standing behind you right now without shoes on. But, anyway, the legend begins with a beautiful woman in love with a man she caught creepin’ ( Note : definitely not a Black man, though, because we don’t cheat) before drowning their kids and herself in a spiteful rage. Boom, the curse of La Llorona was born and lives on as a terrifying tale of “the weeping woman” who stalks and drowns kids when she isn’t looking for her own murdered kids in the darkness. Whew, it’s quite the spook fest that inspired Warner Bros. to connect her to the Conjuring universe and invite me to a haunted hotel for a press junket. Peep my lil video recap here. That’s exactly what I did. And I didn’t find out it was haunted until after drink and plate #2. At that point, it was too late. I was already inside the famously haunted Driskill in downtown Austin where Warner Bros. set up a spiritual cleansing experience along with a haunted hotel historian (to basically tell you about everyone who died in the hotel). Look, I’ve never actually been haunted (as far as I know) but played along anyway and let the healer bless me with rose water and a very special egg. I also learned about a little girl who fell and broke her neck on the lobby steps that you can still (allegedly) hear skipping around. Sadly, she didn’t come out to play with me. I know because I looked for her. While some people were shook and claimed to feel presences around them, I cackled at the over-the-top presentations that continued before AND after the screening of “The Curse of La Llorona” (which I enjoyed and recommend to anyone who enjoys stalker ghost shenanigans). Fast forward to our cast interviews the next day at the (you guessed it) haunted Driskill on the fourth floor aka the most haunted floor in the hotel. BECAUSE OF COURSE. Legend has it that Annie Lennox stayed on that floor and couldn’t decide what dress to wear. Moments later, she returns from the bathroom and finds one of her dresses laid out for her on the bed. THE OTHER WAS LOCKED IN THE CLOSET. BoOoO. Seriously, if you’re ever looking for a hotel where fancy ghosts pick out your outfits, the Driskell is perfect for you.
