If you’ve been anywhere near an internet-enabled device in the past 72 hours, then you’re no doubt aware that Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in a unique ceremony at Windsor Castle in London. Harry and Meghan’s nuptials were different from previous royal weddings in a number of important ways. Most were cool and interesting, others … well, not so much. For example, the ceremony incorporated elements of African-American culture in order to honor Meghan’s ethnicity and nationality. That was inarguably awesome. In the other column, you’ll find the almost unbelievably messy drama surrounding Meghan’s family. While it certainly helped set this wedding apart from its predecessors, we’re guessing Harry and Meghan would have been happy to skip over the soap opera BS delivered by her father and her half-siblings. Meghan’s half-brother and half-sister talked a bunch of trash , but that came as no surprise, as those two revealed themselves to be bestselling items at the jerk store several months ago. Much more unexpected was the last-minute turmoil involving Meghan’s father. Thomas Markle skipped the royal wedding , bowing out just days before the ceremony for reasons that still aren’t totally clear. At first, there were reports that Meghan’s dad had suffered a heart attack. Now, however, it doesn’t that that was the case. The more likely explanation seems to be that Thomas was humiliated by the revelation that he’d agreed to be photographed by paparazzi in exchange for a fee. That’s not to say Thomas is without health issues, but it seems that his reasons for skipping the wedding were more varied and complex than initially reported. Weirdly, Thomas was in regular communication with TMZ throughout the build-up to the wedding, and he spoke to the site on Saturday after Meghan and Harry exchanged vows. “My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy,” he said. “I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness.” Thomas added that watching the wedding on television was both “emotional and joyful.” We may never know exactly what prompted Thomas to stay home instead of participating in this once-in-a-lifetime event, but remarkably, it seems he and Meghan have remained on good terms. Audrey Roloff is still pretty new at this whole motherhood thing. She gave birth to daughter Ember Jean in September of 2017 and has since written plenty about the amazing experience on Instagram. Roloff has gotten into occasional trouble for some of the stuff she has said about having a child, but for the most part, she has simply gushed over her daughter and her family. Now, via an Instagram post she posted in May of 2018, Audrey has shared with followers five lessons she has learned from being a parent. Some may be obvious, others less so. But perhaps you can relate to one or two of these tidbits? 1. Lesson #1: This is how Amber opened her informative and sort of fascinating post: “To love the body God gave me and to embrace its strength and beauty with gratefulness” is something she has learned. 2. How So? “Watching my body change and witnessing its ability to deliver a child taught me to appreciate my physical body in all of its God-designed complexities on a whole new level,” Audrey details. 3. A Lesson of Importance and Priorities Concludes Audrey in this case: “Motherhood has taught me focus less on body-image and more on being an image-bearer. I am also now capable of getting myself ready in less than 5 mintes, which is an added bonus.” 4. Lesson #2: “GRACE,” writes Audrey, expounding a bit as follows: “Motherhood has taught me to give myself loads of grace for all the things I see other mothers doing that make me feel less-than.” 5. Forget Social Media, She Adds Yes, this is very ironic for a social media post to say, but Roloff continues on this point: “My standard for motherhood is rooted and established in the the Word [of] God not the world of Instagram.” 6. Let’s Turn to the Bible, Shall We? Audrey often uses this as source material. In this instance, she wrotes: “Motherhood sure has a way of revealing my failures and flaws, but I’m refusing to let these discoveries steal my confidence in the grace of God who’s power is made perfect in my weakness. The Billboard Music Awards were Sunday night, and the evening was riddled with powerful performances. Ariana Grande's evocative opening act set the tone for the evening. But Shawn Mendes put on “Youth” as a tribute to the victims and survivors of tragic school shootings. As you can see in the video that we have included, he had help — from fellow singer Khalid, and from surviving students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Shawn Mendes is 19 years old, so he doesn't just have to relate to teenagers — he is one. Though he also performed “In My Blood,” which was much more upbeat and designed to please the crowd, when he and Khalid got up and sang “Youth,” it was a clear tribute to both survivors and victims of school shootings. And many read it as an indictment of the numerous politicians and special interests who are fighting gun reform efforts that could save countless innocent lives. But in case it was not perfectly clear, Mendes had survivors of the Parkland shooting up on stage with him. They weren't there as props — they were singing. These were Marjory Stoneman Douglas choir students. Though surely this particular performance had been planned for a while, the timing was tragically appropriate. Just last week, the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas claimed even more innocent lives. Once again, the murderer was a disaffected young male with a lot of anger … and with access to an AK-47. Some are tentatively hopeful that November's midterm elections will see new politicians in office who are willing to actually take action, as so many countries have done, to prevent these tragedies. Mendes' music isn't going to make that happen, but it can be a rallying cry for the voters who can make that dream a reality. Shawn Mendes has plenty of stans who were in attendance in the audience. Kpop fans were delighted to spot Jungkook bobbing his head and dancing along with “In My Blood.” There was actually a hilarious moment in the audience during that song. Notably, Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello were standing and dancing in the crowd during “in My Blood.” Seated just a couple of rows behind them, Darren Criss used his phone to record himself entertained and pretending to be frustrated by Taylor and Camila obstructing his view. The stars are “just like us” in many ways — they can be moved by each other's music. But they can also get annoyed with each other over it. As you'll see in the video, Hailey Baldwin was also in the audience. Last November, rumors began to swirl that Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin were dating . Reports claimed that they were intensely cozy, and they've gone out and about together. They even attended the MET Gala together. However, Hailey has claimed that the two are merely very good friends. That claim of friendship has done nothing to help Shawn dodge the persistent gay rumors that have followed him for years. Believing that someone is gay or bi and closeted is fine, whether you're correct or not. Calling them out as such on social media is unkind. Sexuality is about as personal as it gets. It was so good of Shawn Mendes to use his platform and the Billboard Music Awards for such a good message. It was also good of Khalid, who is a newer name in the music world and whose name seems to be forgotten by many talking about this performance, to lend his voice and talents to the song. We all hope to see a better tomorrow in which children are safe from death and horror.
Big things are happening in Jinger Duggar’s life these days. In fact, some believe that all the exciting new developments in Jinger’s world should take center-stage in the Duggar family’s first spin-off series. Okay, technically, Counting On is a spinoff of 19 Kids and Counting , but really, it functioned more as a replacement series after the original was irreparably sullied by the Josh Duggar sex scandals of 2015. Anyway, if fans have their way, Jinger might soon become the first Duggar to serve as solo star of her own series. In recent weeks, Duggar obsessives have been calling for a Jinger spinoff (or Jin-off, as we like to call it) on her Instagram page and in Duggar-focused subreddits. The reasons why they think this is such a good idea are myriad: For starters, the 24-year-old’s life is wildly eventful these days. Jinger is pregnant with her first child , and along with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, she’s carving out a life that’s very much at odds with her ultra-conservative upbringing. Shortly after her wedding, Jinger became the first Duggar woman of her generation to permanently move away from Arkansas. She and Jeremy have been residents of Laredo, Texas for nearly two years now, and it looks like they’re gearing up for yet another move. Last week, rumors that Jinger is moving to Los Angeles began to make their way around social media. And unlike so many reports about the Duggar clan, this one is based on credible evidence. Jeremy was recently accepted to study at a divinity school in LA, and apparently, he would be permitted to carry on his ministry there while he gets his degree. In other words, a spinoff might soon be the only path forward for Jinger’s career that makes sense from a logistical perspective. Continuing to find ways to incorporate Jinger’s storylines into her siblings’ lives will become that much more difficult after she heads for the coast. The smartest move for TLC might be to simply offer Jinger her own series. The move would make sense not only because of the geographical issues but also because it’s fitting that the woman known as “the rebel Duggar” should have her own show. Jinger was the first Duggar woman of her generation to wear pants and the first to leave Arkansas. Now, she might be the first to land her own series.
