Last night, Kristen Stewart chose a very good time to make her first public appearance since photos surfaced of the actress getting to first base with Rupert Sanders . While most of the entertainment world was watching the MTV Video Music Awards – which included an appearance by Robert Pattinson and other Twilight Saga castmates, who introduced a new Breaking Dawn Part 2 trailer – Stewart walked the red carpet of the Toronto Film Festival. Along with costars Kirsten Dunst and Garrett Hedlund, she was on hand to promote On the Road and she wore a Zuhair Murad dress for the occasion. Stewart doesn’t exactly look thrilled to be at the premiere. But does she ever? You’re more likely to see Kristen wear a “Take Me Back, Rob!” t-shirt on the red carpet than you are to see here don a smile…

Justified? A deputy was forced to shoot a suspect, after the Sheriff says a man pulled a seven inch butcher knife on him, all while he had a motorist pulled over on the side of the road. It was 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday, when Clarendon County Deputy Danny Graham puts his lights on to pull over a speeder. “He had issued a ticket and was standing at the car, explaining the ticket to him,” said Sheriff Randy Garrett. “All law enforcement officers are trained that traffic stops are never routine. They’re not normal. Anything can happen at anytime.” Sheriff Garrett takes us play-by-play through the traffic stop as it happens. “This individual walking down the road whips out a knife. Lunges at the deputy with a knife. Of course our deputy backs up, pulls his weapon, and shot him,” said Garrett. The suspect, 37-year-old Anthony Pearson, is being charged with attempted murder of a police officer. Sheriff Garrett says it’s no question, the deputy made the right decision. “We’ve looked at the video dozens of times. We’ve interviewed and everything. It’s a justified shoot in my book. He’s clear.” Clarendon SC WLTX youtube

The deep thoughtful look, the craggy face — the signature beard. Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis resonates as Abraham Lincoln in this first shot of him in full character for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming epic about the nation’s 16th president, Lincoln . Paparazzi snapped photos of a bearded Day-Lewis at a diner last year, but on Tuesday morning, EW.com posted this exclusive shot of Day-Lewis in period costume for the highly anticipated movie that will be released on Nov. 9, just three days after the 2012 Presidential election. The site also addresses reports that Day-Lewis, known for his immersive acting techniques, prepared for the role of the mid-19th Century president “by avoiding the trappings of 21st — not to mention 20th — century life during the shoot”. Not so, says Spielberg, who tells EW : “Daniel was always conscious of his contemporary surroundings” and “never went into a fugue state. He did not channel Lincoln. All that stuff is just more about gossip than it is about technique.” Those on the set, including Spielberg, did, however refer to Day-Lewis as “Mr. President,” but the Jaws director says that was about maintaining atmosphere. “I was calling [all] the actors by their character names,” he tells EW . “That was something I felt was important to establish a little authenticity, maybe even more for me than for them.” Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter.
