Owl City Is Under ‘Good Pressure’ While Working On New Music

‘There hopefully will be a few more ears willing to listen the next time around,’ he says. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Zach Smith Owl City’s Adam Young Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images By now, Adam Young’s journey from his parents’ basement to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 is pretty well-documented. And while it’s a pretty amazing story, the trick now for the man known as Owl City is to do it all over again. Young — who still lives in his tiny hometown of Owatonna, Minnesota (though he’s got his own place now) — is already at work on the follow-up to his breakout Ocean Eyes album. And yes, he freely admits to feeling all the pressure that comes along with the task. Though, unlike many, he’s channeling the increased focus to make his new songs even better. “I think it’s kind of a good pressure, in a way,” Young told MTV Radio. “Because I think through the upcoming singles, or singles from the new record that’s upcoming, I feel like now that I have a bit of an audience, there hopefully will be a few more ears willing to listen the next time around. [So] it’s kind of a good pressure, as far as having a bit more purpose behind the writing.” And while Young wouldn’t reveal what the new Owl City tunes are sounding like — it’s still sort of early, after all — he did admit that he’s finding solace in writing them. After all, the time he spends working on new stuff is about the only “personal time” he has in his increasingly hectic schedule. “Currently, the wheels are turning, so I’m really excited to get off the road here in a couple of weeks and get back down into the studio and kind of hide away and be kind of an evil genius for a little while and see what happens,” he said. “People are always telling you where to go, but … here and there I get a stab of inspiration, so I try to run to the laptop and type it out, or kind of demo it out on guitar.” The plan, Young said, is to continue working on the album between tours (his headlining jaunt runs until May then resumes in August, when he’ll open for John Mayer) and have the album out by the end of the year. That’s assuming everything goes according plan — something Young knows might not happen at all. “I’m excited to have a lot of time to mess around in the studio, and when I feel like I’m getting a bit stir-crazy, I’ll be able to get back on the road. So I’m excited,” he said. “Who knows, though. I’m kind of that perfectionist guy, so currently, I think the plan is for a new record in December, so a bit of a ways off but should be fun.” Are you excited for new Owl City music? ‘Glee’ Cast Is Nervous, But Excited For Live Tour

‘We haven’t started rehearsals yet,’ admits Dianna Agron of live concerts. In Concert! tour just days after wrapping the season. But the castmembers seem so eager to perform live, they’re not complaining about the workload before their four-city jaunt, kicking off May 18 in Phoenix. “So, we wrap after the 26th of this month and then two days later we start our tour rehearsals,” Dijon Talton (Matt) explained to MTV News before “Glee” returned for the second half of its first season on Tuesday night. “Every day, Monday through Sunday, for a couple weeks, and then we go on tour for a couple weeks, four cities, I believe. They are mostly sold out, and then a month later, back to do 22 episodes of season two. So it’s kind of like no break, work, work, work. But we love it. We wouldn’t have it any other way!” Heather Morris, who plays Brittany, added that it’s going to be a bit of rush to get everything solid before they take the act on the road. “We haven’t started the rehearsals yet, but we will be starting them for only two weeks prior to the actual tour itself,” she said. “And it’s going to be really rigorous, ’cause we have to get a show together really fast. But we did the ‘Oprah’ show, and when we were done, it was like, ‘That’s exactly what it’s going to be like,’ and it was crazy.” Dianna Agron (Quinn) is excited but nervous. “We haven’t started rehearsals yet. I’m anticipating sore muscles, lots of bubble baths,” she said. But Cory Monteith (Finn) added that he’s been preparing: “I’m ready for it. I’ve been working out: bench presses, bicep curls.” The buildup of buzz for the show’s return from winter hiatus and their upcoming tour has Naya Rivera (Santana) pumped. “Such an adrenaline rush,” she said. “This is just tip of the iceberg of what we’re going to see when we’re on tour. And I cannot wait!” Mark Salling (Puck) emphasized that the tour is really about the fans. “We started rehearsals a little, but that’s going to be another great opportunity to get to the fans and give them a good show,” he teased. “I’m going to lip-sync my ass off for you.” Are you looking forward to the Glee Live!
