Nate Dogg’s Death Was ‘A Crushing Blow,’ Warren G Says

‘I’m hurting,’ Warren tells MTV News after raucous SXSW tribute to late friend. By James Montgomery Kurupt and Warren G Photo: MTV News On Saturday night at South by Southwest, Warren G , Daz, Kurupt and Snoop Dogg paid homage to their late friend Nate Dogg with a raucous tribute show that celebrated the music of a man who lived every day to the fullest. And while the mood onstage was definitely joyous — the quartet performed many of the songs Nate leant his voice to, in a poignant tribute to his talents — backstage at Austin’s Venue 222, things were much more muted. In fact, when Warren G spoke to MTV News about his late cohort, he didn’t hide the fact that he (and everyone who ever knew Nate Dogg) was still hurting inside. In fact, starting with the moment he heard the news of Nate’s passing, things have been far from normal. “I was out on the Sweat Tour with Snoop, and we had got the word from his family on what was going on, and it was just a crushing blow for us,” Warren said. “Just, from going to see him and lifting his spirits up when he was in therapy, and stuff like that, it’s just crazy for that to happen. And I still don’t believe it, you know what I’m saying? “It kind of hurts me when I look at this shirt [the organizers of the SXSW tribute show sold Nate Dogg T-shirts, with proceeds going to the late singer’s family], it’s like, ‘Damn, that’s my homeboy on this shirt,’ ” he continued. “And I’m hurting, and you know, a lot of people are showing tons of support for his family, for his homeboys, and we really and truly appreciate that. It’s real love.” And though they took the stage that night with a heavy heart, Warren and his cohorts also did it knowing that their friend was with them in spirit, and that by honoring his music, they were also honoring a man they all knew and loved. “It means a lot, you know, because this is something that’s being done for a person that we really love. It’s deeper than music, that’s a brother to us, to me and Kurupt and Snoop and Daz … it’s really deeper than that,” he said. “I mean, like, I’m not a psychic or a genie or a gypsy or anything, but I know deep down in my heart he’s around us, he’s with us … he’s with us in spirit. Everything we do, he’s a part of it.” Related Photos 2011 SXSW Music Festival Nate Dogg: A Life In Photos Related Artists Nate Dogg Warren G

Robert Pattinson’s MTV Live Chat: Everything He Said About ‘Twilight’

From ‘Breaking Dawn’ to leading lady Kristen Stewart, RPattz was an open book. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News Robert Pattinson likes his leading ladies “hot,” thinks his “Breaking Dawn” love scene with Kristen Stewart is “funny” and looks back at his first “Twilight” red carpet and thinks, “I looked like an old alcoholic.” Yes, we ranged far and wide across the “Twilight” universe on Friday night during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a 30-minute live chat with the 24-year-old star. In fact, we hit so many topics of interest to fans of the vampire franchise that we’ve gathered them all on one page. Consider this a Twi-cheat sheet: everything Pattinson had to say about the series: On Kristen Stewart While Rob drew a line of comparison between his “Twilight” co-star and other leading ladies with whom he’s shared the screen — “I like being in movies with lots of hot girls,” he laughed — he also pointed out how different he is from Stewart . “I like the kind of cerebral aspect of things, and she has kind of an immediate emotional response to stuff every single time,” he said about making various acting choices. “She’s like, ‘Why can’t you understand? It’s obvious. You don’t know. You shouldn’t be an actor!’ ” Unsurprisingly, the duo’s upcoming “Breaking Dawn” love scene — which we got a peek at in a photo earlier this year — also cropped up during the conversation. “You’ve got to really know what you’re doing. If it’s just a sort of arbitrary love scene, it’d be quite difficult,” he explained. “The one on ‘Breaking Dawn’ is pretty funny.” On “Breaking Dawn” Of all the new talent joining the franchise, 10-year-old Mackenzie Foy , who plays Edward and Bella’s daughter , is the one everyone has an eye on. “She’s a great actress. She’s really sweet,” Pattinson told us. “She has to do a hard part as well, because she’s doing — I don’t want to get into special-effects stuff — but she’s playing a baby in some scenes. Oh, man, some of the stuff is so strange. I mean, we’ve done very strange things on the ‘Breaking Dawn’ shoot.” Rob also dished a bit about the musical aspects of the upcoming films, shooting down a rumor that he’ll sing a lullaby but revealing he will show off some of his musical abilities . “I did play some piano. I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be secret,” he said. “I was very impressed. I hadn’t played piano in years, and I learned it in about 10 seconds.” On Revisiting the Past While we had Rob live and in studio, we couldn’t help but flash back to our first-ever “Twilight” interview back in the spring of 2008. Though much time has passed, Pattinson said that now, much like then, he still can’t quite grasp the full breadth of Twi-mania. What has changed, he added, is how he acts during interviews. “I never got that I was supposed to be talking about ‘Twilight.’ I thought I had to be funny all the time and that’s it,” he said. But he doesn’t regret trying to be the always-on funnyman. Looking back on the last few years, Pattinson told us he really has just one regret . “I wouldn’t have worn the suit I wore for the first ‘Twilight’ premiere. It was too small,” he said. “I was also a little bit nervous, so I had a couple of drinks beforehand. I look like an old alcoholic.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson’s Not Suiting Up For ‘Daredevil’ … Yet

The ‘Water for Elephants’ star said he fears fanboy backlash when it comes to superhero movies. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News Imagine Robert Pattinson in tights, fighting crime as an iconic character. While the heartthrob would undoubtedly have the Twihards lining up for days to see him play a superhero, he thinks there’s one set of moviegoers who wouldn’t be nearly as keen on the idea: fanboys! During Friday’s “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a live, 30-minute chat with the “Water for Elephants” star, RPattz revealed he would, in fact, take on a superhero role if it were presented to him. “I’d love [to] definitely.” But the actor does have some reservations about taking on the genre, including which superhero he would play. “I don’t know what superhero you’d do. Is there any left?” he asked. Robert did, however, admit that there’s one character he’d like to suit up for, but he gave pause when he realized what a stir he might cause by even mentioning it. “I shouldn’t even say this stuff, ’cause all the little fanboys will be like, ‘No! I’m gonna shoot him!’ ” he joked. So, while we may never know which character Robert is “such a big fan” of, we do know that he’s not yet in contention for the role of Matt Murdock in “Eclipse” director David Slade’s upcoming “Daredevil” reboot . “I don’t know where that one came from at all,” Robert said of the rumors that he was lined up to play the comic book vigilante. But, that wasn’t the only thing he found confusing about the future remake. When MTV News mentioned another “Daredevil” was in the works, Robert asked, “[That] Ben Affleck movie?” He then pondered with a laugh about the 2003 flick, “That’s weird, didn’t that only come out about three years ago?” The 24-year-old star did have some casting ideas of his own. “Get David Slade to play him,” Robert said of his former “Eclipse” director. “Oh no, he should play, who’s the bald guy? Bullseye!” Which superhero would you like to see Robert Pattinson play? Robert Pattinson On His Leading Ladies: ‘I Like Hot Girls’

Actor gushes about Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Stewart and Uma Thurman, calling them ‘experienced and passionate people.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in “Water for Elephants” Photo: David James/FOX Given his otherworldly popularity, it seems as if any time Robert Pattinson appears in a film, the majority of the media attention and coverage focuses mainly on the man himself, not his various (and equally attractive) co-stars. As such, Pattinson’s lovely leading ladies are occasionally overlooked and likely find themselves constantly answering questions about the “Twilight” star and not the other way around. However, during our live interview with Pattinson on Friday (March 18), “MTV News First: Robert Pattinson,” we asked the actor to talk about his beautiful co-stars, beginning with Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, who plays his love interest in the upcoming romance “Water for Elephants.” When asked whether he was intimidated by Witherspoon, given her award-winning career, Pattinson admitted that he was — but only for a few minutes. “Anyone who’s really famous and really great, it’s always going to be slightly intimidating,” he said. “But she has such a nice energy about her, and [the intimidation] is gone within the first couple of seconds.” Regarding his track record of lovely co-stars (Witherspoon, Kristen Stewart, Emile de Ravin in “Remember Me” and Uma Thurman in the upcoming film “Bel Ami”), Pattinson joked that he only works with lovely ladies. “I like hot girls,” he joked. “I like them. I like being in movies with lots of hot girls,” he said with a laugh, before getting serious to consider his current and former co-stars. “They’re all pretty different,” he said. “They’re all very strong, actually. I always end up being in movies with very experienced and passionate people. They’re never just flimsy floozies.” Who is your favorite RPattz leading lady? Let us know in the comments below! Robert Pattinson Marvels At ‘Twilight’ Merchandise In His #2 MTV Moment

RPattz will debut exclusive ‘Water for Elephants’ clip and answer fan questions live Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News What else can we say about Robert Pattinson’s #2 MTV moment other than “glitter lube”? All week, we’ve been ticking off our favorite RPattz moments as we count down the hours until “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a 30-minute conversation in which the 24-year-old actor will be answering your Twitter questions, goes live Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET. We’ve touched on our initial visit to talk to him on set in 2008 and his first trip to the Oscars the next year. Momentous occasions, all. And now, here we are: glitter lube. Allow us to explain: As “Twilight” shape-shifted from a wildly popular book series into a global box-office juggernaut, the franchise has branched out into all sorts of ancillary gear: clothing and jewelry lines, board games, bed sets, Halloween costumes, makeup, posters, dolls, lunch boxes and, well, the list goes on. And on. As in: Pillows? Really?! So when we caught up with Pattinson in the spring of 2010, while he was promoting “Eclipse,” we wanted to know if there was a piece of merchandise that truly perplexed and entertained him. “I like the glitter lube stuff. I thought that was really funny,” he said, laughing. “I was just like, ‘I did not sign that! Where is the paper?’ I think, yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s glitter — I think it’s lube.” Ever the goofball, Rob didn’t leave it there. “I’ve got a dispenser,” he joked. “I just have it on my hands. ‘Yeah, it’s nice to meet you!’ and it’s like, ‘Wow! It works!’ ” Don’t miss “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Robert Pattinson Wonders Why He’s At The Oscars In His #3 MTV Moment

RPattz will debut an exclusive ‘Water for Elephants’ clip and answer fan questions live Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson at the 2009 Academy Awards Photo: Jeff Vespa/WireImage If you ask us, Robert Pattinson officially arrived in Hollywood when “Twilight” won five Golden Popcorn statues at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards — including RPattz’s nods for Best Kiss, Best Fight and Breakthrough Male Performance. But others might argue his Tinseltown coming-out party occurred a few months earlier. In late February ’09, after a weeklong series of rumors had whipped the Twi-nation into a frenzy, Pattinson walked onto an Academy Awards red carpet for the first time. He was not there because he was nominated, but simply because the Academy could not ignore the vampire phenomenon that had ignited the box office — and too many tween hearts to count — the previous fall. It was the biggest night in Hollywood, after all, and its biggest new star just had to be there. Not that he could quite wrap his head around the idea. “It’s insane,” Pattinson exclaimed when we caught up with him on the carpet. “When they first told me about this, I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, you’re joking’ — or ‘I’m going to have to do something really stupid like get gunged!’ ” Assuming he’d need to get doused with slime to justify an Oscars appearance, for that reason alone, this awards-season moment deserves to make our countdown of favorite Pattinson moments before the debut of “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” at 8:56 p.m. ET on Friday. But RPattz’s self-deprecating humor aside, it was at the Oscars that his status as the rising young actor in town was solidified. During the ceremony, he took the stage alongside Amanda Seyfried to present a montage of the year’s romantic films, everything from “Mamma Mia!” to “Revolutionary Road” to, yes, “Twilight.” Yet even though footage from the film that made him a star played at the Oscars, he couldn’t quite believe the situation. “I’m so surprised that it worked out the way it did,” he told us of becoming a crush-worthy Hollywood presence. “I was thinking the whole time, ‘I don’t really have the personality to fit into that.’ I’m not really afraid of it. I don’t even know how to play up that. I don’t know if I could ever be cast in a heartthrob role, apart from ‘Twilight,’ which I didn’t know was a heartthrob role.” Don’t miss “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson Photo: Jun Sato/ WireImage Anything could happen during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” our live chat with the “Twilight” star on Friday. He did, after all, once drop two curses in less than two seconds during a live interview with us on the “Eclipse” red carpet . There’s no telling what might pop out of RPattz’s mouth during the live, 30-minute interview. Whatever does happen, though, you can count on it being entertaining. In his own kinda awkward, always endearing way, Pattinson has a knack for delivering memorable sound bites. As we count down the days until “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” at 8:56 p.m. ET on Friday, we plucked out our 10 favorite quotes of his, ranging from those strange days when RPattz wasn’t yet a household name to recent comments about a “Breaking Dawn” photo of him in bed with Kristen Stewart. 10. “This is the first time, really, that I’ll be confronted with a bunch of Twilighters. The article was just like, nothing.” — On the strange things he learns when Googling himself 1. “Lot of my crack in it!” — On his onscreen nudity in the upcoming drama, “Bel Ami” Don’t miss “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com.
