Linkin Park Were Pushed To The Brink For ‘BURN IT DOWN’ Video

Band’s new vid premieres tomorrow at 5:53 p.m. on MTV, and LP sit down for an exclusive interview right after on MTV.com! By James Montgomery Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn and Chester Bennington Photo: MTV News Throughout their careening career, Linkin Park have made no shortage of truly iconic, eye-catching music videos, the overwhelming majority of which were directed by the band’s DJ, Joe Hahn. And LP’s latest clip, “BURN IT DOWN” — which premieres on MTV and MTV.com on Thursday, May 24, at 5:53 p.m. ET as part of our “MTV First” — is both a worthy addition to that video legacy and Hahn’s directorial reel. Chock full of cutting-edge digital effects, it’s a performance video pushed to the absolute limit … to the point where, when the band bursts into flames at the end, you can’t help wondering if they didn’t just spontaneously combust. Then again, knowing Hahn, it’s entirely possible he just decided to set his bandmates on fire. After all, in previous clips, he’s nearly drowned them in tanks of water and tossed huge handfuls of dust directly in their faces. So when MTV News sat down with Hahn, Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda during the “BURN IT DOWN” premiere (you can watch the entire interview on MTV.com immediately after the video’s debut), we had to ask them about Hahn’s hardline approach to making music videos. Basically, how much of a pain in the ass is this guy to work for? As it turns out, the answer is: a huge one. “Yeah, Joe really goes for it,” Bennington laughed. “And, for whatever reason, I usually get it the worst. I’ve almost drowned, I had all this powder thrown in my face. … On this new one, I was sweating like crazy. It was intense.” Of course, as you’d probably expect, Hahn wasn’t having any of it. The way he sees it, Linkin Park owe their success to the fact that they never do anything the easy way. (Their new album, LIVING THINGS, due June 26, is testament to that.) And since his bandmates are going to complain no matter what he does, well, then he might as well push the limits as far as possible. “The reason why we’re successful is because we’re all passionate people; I have to take the director’s seat and be in-between,” he said. “And the thing I figured out is, no matter what, they’re going to complain. They could just be staring at an apple on a table and they’d be like, ‘OK … [ makes a ‘checking the watch’ gesture ].’ So you might as well make it fun.” “And get your money’s worth,” Bennington shot back. Just wait until you see “BURN IT DOWN,” because Hahn — and Linkin Park — definitely got their money’s worth with this one. Don’t miss the world premiere of the “BURN IT DOWN” video during “MTV First: Linkin Park” tomorrow! It all starts at 5:53 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by an exclusive interview with the band on MTV.com Related Videos Sneak Peek: Linkin Park’s ‘BURN IT DOWN’ Related Artists Linkin Park

A$AP Rocky Addresses Kanye West Producer’s Criticism

G.O.O.D. Music producer Mike Dean ‘was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?’ A$AP Rocky says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman A$AP Rocky on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News When A$AP Rocky broke through last year with “Purple Swag,” he didn’t exactly scream NYC. Instead of producing a more-recognized New York sound, Rocky and his A$AP Mob drew from Southern influences. Rock’s slowed-down, syrup-drench swag was more Houston than Harlem — then again, that was part of its appeal. Still, Rocky’s crew has had its share of critics — most recently, a veteran dirty South producer. “We need some new H Town rappers to blow up. Why the f— there all these fake ass Houston knock off artists from up North and West,” Mike Dean tweeted Sunday. “I mean rep where you are from not us. We gotta stop this sh– ASAP!!!!” “He was just talkin’ subliminal about Northern people. You gotta look at it like even Bun B embraces us, and we look up to him too,” Rocky said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “Not only that, it’s love when we’re out in the H-Town, and on top of that, he was bumpin’ us. This Mike dude was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?” After the initial tweets, A$AP Yams responded to Dean in defense of his crew: “@therealmikedean. I respect ur work legendary [but] u def sound ignorant. The new generation is a melting pot of influences from everywhere. Get off that old head sh–.” Dean, who now works with Kanye West and produced a number of tracks on Watch the Throne , made his name with songs for Houston rap legends Big Mello, Z-Ro and Scarface. After some back and forth, Dean tweeted that he “wasn’t speaking on anyone in particular” and thanked Yams for keeping the H-Town movement alive. Yams joined Rocky on the “RapFix” couch Wednesday, saying, “You gotta realize, we’re a whole ‘nother generation. We didn’t just grow up on our sound regionally. We didn’t just have DJ Kay Slay mixtapes. We were 8 years old when Master P and Cash Money was coming out, so we still had that as an option. If you look at all the greats, they all just a mixture of everything.” Share your opinion about Mike Dean’s comments below! Related Videos A$AP Rocky Rips Up ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists A$AP Rocky

Behold, The Shirtless Evolution of Sylvester Stallone

Matthew McConaughey may be Hollywood’s reigning shirtless superstar , but long before he first bared his abs onscreen, Sylvester Stallone had mastered the art of gratuitous torso in each Rocky installment, Rambo film and a number of other action titles. Thirty-five years after his bare-chested breakout role as the Italian Stallion, Stallone returns to the screen this April for a feature called Bullet to the Head , which, again — amazingly — features the action icon topless as evidenced by a brand new still. (Don’t bother questioning how a shirtless 65-year-old man fits into the narrative — it just does, guys.)  In honor of the actor’s impressive history of appearing semi-nude onscreen — even decades after audiences started shielding their eyes from his grisly old-man muscles — Movieline salutes Sylvester Stallone’s shirtless valor in the photo essay below. Rip off your top, drape yourself in the nearest American flag and enjoy the views below, then consider Movieline’s Shirtless Sylvester Stallone comprehension questions. Rocky (1976) Rocky II (1979) Rocky III (1982) First Blood (1982) Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) Rocky IV (1985) Rambo III (1988) Tango & Cash (1989) Demolition Man (1993) The Specialist (1994) Rocky Balboa (2006) The Expendables (2010) Bullet to the Head (2012) Okay, class: Which is your favorite shirtless Sylvester Stallone look? Which is your least favorite shirtless Sylvester Stallone look? (Or: Which induced the most serious dry heaves?) At what point in his career should Sylvester Stallone have put a shirt on? Do you think it was a combination of good diet and exercise (slash steroids) that yielded such muscly results? Or just sheer Stalloneness? Follow Julie Miller on Twitter . REVIEW: Warrior, the Tale of Two Rockys, Packs a Potent Emotional Punch

There’s a moment at the end of Gavin O’C onnor’s MMA drama Warrior in which two men who have been relentlessly beaten and pummeled in the octagon stand dripping with exhaustion, rivers of sweat mingling with the tears running down their faces. It doesn’t matter that you can’t tell the sweat from the tears; that’s partly the point of Warrior anyway, which makes you feel every emotional wound just as acutely, if not more so, than the bruising, rib-crunching body blows. Yes, this is a mixed martial arts movie (distributed by genre specialists Lionsgate, no less). But it’s also one of the most heart-wrenching and deeply felt films of the year.

In Honor of the Potential Robocop Statue: 9 Movie-Related Statues That Already Exist

Despite objections from Mayor Dave Bing, it looks like artists in Detroit have raised enough money to build the Robocop statue that the city so desperately needs. While Detroit will likely be the first city with an half-robot policeman enshrined for future generations, it isn’t the first city to put up a film-inspired statue for all of the public to see. And a Robocop statue may not even be the most ridiculous film tribute ever built. For my money, Scotland will actually hold this honor for years to come.

The 9 Most Scathing Critical Responses to James Cameron’s Sanctum

Our own Stephanie Zacharek warned you away from the waterlogged cave-bound 3D cheese that is James Cameron’s (executive-produced Avatar technology-wasting favor-to-a-friend) Sanctum , and she’s not alone: many more esteemed critics made it through the Aussie survival adventure with their spirits, eyeballs, and attention spans barely intact. Some saw Sanctum ‘s terrible B-movie dialogue as amusing unintentional camp; will you be so lucky? Rappel down to the depths of Sanctum ‘s most scathing critiques and survey the rocky terrain ahead.
