‘Fifty Shades of Grey’: Experts Cast Anastasia Steele

Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins and Alexis Bledel are fan favorites to play the lead in the big-screen adaptation of E L James’ novel. By Christina Garibaldi “Fifty Shades of Grey” book cover Photo: The Writer’s Coffee Shop As the debate rages on between fans over who will play Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaption of E L James’ best-selling erotic novel, “Fifty Shades of Grey,” many are also contemplating who should take on the role of the female lead, Anastasia Steele. The book, which began as “Twilight” fan fiction, describes Ana as “a pale, brown haired girl with blue eyes too big for her face.” Fans are looking for someone that not only represents her physically, but can also balance her purity with her newfound sensual side. “The trickiest part of all may be staying true to the book and finding an actress who can convey youth and innocence, as well as the depth of experience necessary to grow with the character,” Lisa Parker from Fiftyshadesfilm.com told MTV News. “We’re looking forward to someone submitting (pun intended) their name for consideration of the pivotal role of Ana. Maybe an ‘it’ girl like Jennifer Lawrence; a probable next ‘it’ girl like Allison Williams; or someone wanting to take a career leap like Felicity Jones, Emilia Clarke or Katie Cassidy.” Another fan favorite seems to be “Mirror Mirror” star Lily Collins who, at 23, would be the right age to play the part. “Lily Collins is one who I don’t think has been mentioned too much” Mags Vazquez from Latersbaby.net said. “I look at the innocent part, she can probably pull that off really well, and she has the features that would go well.” With the novel’s connection to the “Twilight” trilogy and with Robert Pattinson being rumored for the role as Christian, it is only natural that Kristen Stewart’s name comes to mind. “Kristen would be great,” Alison Genet of Twifans.com said. “After all, it was written with her in mind. Isn’t the author always right? I think it’s also time for her to another edgy flick.” Yet, others feel until the role of Christian is filled, it may be hard to picture who would be able to take on Anastasia. “The debate over who will play Christian is definitely a heated one,” Parker said. “It just may be that it’s too hard to think about casting Ana until she has her Fifty. We conducted a quick Twitter poll for this article, and their top three choices were Emmy Rossum, Alexis Bledel and going with an unknown.” But in the end, it will have to be up to the studio and James to cast the role of Anastasia, but according to fans, they trust that they will ultimately make the right decision. “Author E L James gave Ana her voice in the trilogy,” Parker said. “No one understands her better than she does, which is why we know she will make sure an actress with the right combination of ‘inner goddess’ and ‘subconscious’ is cast.” Who do you think should play Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey”? ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’: Experts Cast Christian Grey

Robert Pattinson, Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling are fan favorites to play the dark and mysterious character in E L James’ novel. By Christina Garibaldi Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News People just can’t stop talking about “Fifty Shades of Grey.” E L James has set the literary world on fire with as erotic novel that explores the relationship between a dark and mysterious guy named Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, an innocent college graduate. The guilty-pleasure book features characters that James created in her “Twilight” fan fiction, and it’s now being made into a feature film . That, of course, has had Hollywood buzzing with casting rumors about who could play the role of Christian Grey. Fans of the trilogy already have strong opinions about the part, so MTV News caught up with some experts for their take. “Christian definitely needs to be clean-cut, but extremely sexy when disheveled,” Alison Genet of Twifans.com told MTV News. “I wouldn’t choose a man that is overly chiseled. No juicehead gorillas need apply. Hair that can be neatly brushed, but when playing, it’s loose and wild like Johnny Depp hair. Not super short.” Of course, the physical look of the actor has to fit, but Christian is also a complex individual, and most fans want an actor who can pull off all his many dimensions. “I just think that the actor needs to be able to portray being so intense,” Mags Vazquez from , “But also showing that vulnerability that he has in reality.” Casting rumors for the part of Christian have been heating up as of late, with names like “Twilight’s” own Robert Pattinson coming up. So, do fans want to see Pattinson make the transition from Edward Cullen to Christian Grey? “There’s the side that first fell in love with the characters as part of ‘Twilight’ fan fiction and can only see Robert Pattinson as Christian and/or Kristen Stewart as Ana,” Lisa Parker from FiftyShadesFilm.com explained. “Would we be disappointed if he/she/they were cast? Absolutely not.” Others disagree, however. “In regards to Robert Pattinson, I would like to see them move away from ‘Twilight’ so it can get its own identity,” Crissy Maier of Laters, Baby! said. Well, if Pattinson doesn’t land the role, there’s a chance another vampire could step in: “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder. “I think Ian seems like a good fit visually, I haven’t watched ‘Vampire Diaries,’ but what I hear about his acting skills there, I’m hearing good things,” Maier said. Parker agreed, revealing that her readers have been backing Somerhalder since he expressed interest in the role during an interview with Ryan Seacrest. “We’re excited to see actors step up and say they would be interested in playing the leading man,” Parker said, adding, “With Ian Somerhalder being the first and a popular candidate judging from our Twitter timeline.” These super fans have suggestions of their own though, ranging from Matt Bomer to “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill . Not surprisingly, Ryan Gosling is also a favorite. “We are fans of the love story too, so we know exactly what qualities ‘FSOG’ fans see in different actors and actresses that make them appealing for the roles,” Parker said. “Have you seen the Dunhill London ads featuring Henry Cavill? Do they not scream ‘Fifty’? Have you seen Ryan Gosling’s GQ photo shoot? Grey silk tie anyone?” Genet of Twifanscom agreed, saying Gosling’s undeniable charm could make him the perfect Christian Grey: “Ryan Gosling, Ryan Gosling, and Ryan Gosling. Imaging him in jeans hung low on the hip.” “The one thing we know for sure is that with E L James as a collaborative partner in the casting process, we are confident that she will do what’s in the best interest of her famously loved characters.” Parker said. Dick Clark’s Heir Apparent: Ryan Seacrest

‘American Idol’ and ‘On Air’ radio host is most likely successor to Clark, who died Wednesday at age 82. By James Montgomery Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark Photo: Andrew Walker/ Getty Images In 2005, when it was announced that Ryan Seacrest would join Dick Clark as the host of the long-running “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” telecast, most viewed the move as a ceremonial passing of the torch — probably because it was. Sure, a stroke suffered the previous year had left Clark debilitated — he had missed the 2004 New Year’s broadcast, replaced by Regis Philbin — and his role heading into the 2005 NYE show was anything but certain, meaning Seacrest’s live-TV acumen would be heavily relied on. But, really, there were plenty of folks ABC could have chosen to assist in the broadcast, and still, they went with the man who was building a broadcast empire as a radio and television personality, a producer and a pitchman. Turns out, it was the perfect choice, and not just because the ’05 “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” telecast posted a ratings jump of nearly 2 million viewers from the previous broadcast. For years, Seacrest had been seen as the heir apparent to Clark, the iconic personality who had spent the better part of eight decades establishing himself as America’s pre-eminent multimedia powerhouse, until that NYE broadcast, when he gradually began to cede the throne: Seacrest would return the following year, with Clark’s role diminishing, and in 2009, the show was officially re-named “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.” Make no mistake about it: There will never be another Dick Clark. But with Clark’s death Wednesday at the age of 82, Seacrest now stands alone. Granted, his entire career has been influenced in every possible way by Clark, who blazed trails — both in front of the camera and behind the scenes — and whose impact on television and radio is nearly impossible to fathom. With his work on iconic shows like “American Bandstand” and his various syndicated radio programs, Clark brought music into millions of homes, and by being one of the first mainstream hosts to embrace disco, R&B and hip-hop acts — the descendants of which probably make up 75 percent of your Spotify playlist today — he helped shape the tastes of the American public. Through “Bandstand,” he also helped fundamentally change the way music was presented on television, and his on-camera mannerisms belied the fact that live TV was (and is) a high-wire act. The parallels between that show and “American Idol” — on which Seacrest rose to national prominence — are obvious, and one could make the argument that the two men are quite possibly the best live-TV hosts of any generation. But Seacrest also followed in Clark’s footsteps on radio, where he hosts two syndicated programs (“On Air With Ryan Seacrest” and “American Top 40”), both of which continue to influence the nation’s musical tastes. And just as it was in Clark’s day, the debate rages over whether or not that’s a good thing. Clark also served as the longtime host of the “Pyramid” game show and the “TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes” series, the latter of which was an early forerunner of reality television, something Seacrest knows a thing or two about, given his role as producer on shows like the massively successful “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” In his role as a producer, Seacrest really seems to have been taking notes from Clark. After all, there were few as formidable as him: For more than 50 years, Clark’s self-titled production company has been one of the most successful in TV history, backing a string of hits like “Bandstand,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and the “American Music Awards.” Of course, it remains to be seen whether Seacrest will have the longevity Clark enjoyed or if his impact on television will be as sizeable. Both of those things seem tall tasks, indeed — there have been few, if any, who have been as influential as Clark, in any number of ways. He was one of a kind, to be certain, and in Seacrest, we have the heir to his throne. Or at least his understudy. Share your thoughts on this story in the comments below! My name is Veronica and this is My Bieber Experience. On March…

My name is Veronica and this is My Bieber Experience.  On March 26, 2012 I met Justin at Radio Disney studios. Three days before, my friend texted me saying he would be there low key. I started to contact anyone with a car. My cousin finally came through! Monday came and we met at my house and left at 8am. After getting lost and getting the wrong address, we finally found the station. Only one other girl was there! I joked around saying I would tell him, “swag beast mode” just as a joke, but in my head I had a speech about how much he inspires me. Lets skip to Justin! More people showed up and the workers from the building came down to see him, which made it crowded. Justin walked in and greeted fans right away. Seeing him take pictures with everyone and talk, he just looked unreal. I just couldn’t believe he was actually in front of me,someone who I see every where and I listen to every day, my role model. My friend Stephanie jumped in a picture with him and asked if I could get one right after. He said sure and I got next to him (so did my cousin). I had butterflies in my stomach, I couldn’t stop smiling. I was nervous! The first thing I thought was “He’s right next to you, don’t be afraid, OH MY GOSH HE LOOKS SO DIFFERENT”. After the picture was taken, I went for a hug. It was a tight hug and what do I say? “Swag.” His reply? “Yeah, Swag Bro!” I couldn’t believe it. Did I just say that? Out of all things? I didn’t even say my name!! Honestly, I don’t remember what happened after that! I don’t remember walking out of the crowd or anything! But I remember shaking, being extremely happy, and telling people how he called me “Bro” then laughing about it! We waited for him to come back out, sadly, he spent so much time with the people in the front that the people in the back couldn’t talk to him because he was in a rush. I got to talk to Kenny for a while! He is really an amazing person! I have seen Kenny randomly over 3 times (book signing, Demi Lovato concert, Stevie Wonder concert) but he was never able to take a picture with me! I finally got one, also with Alfredo ! He is also my role model! I had so many questions for him, but I only asked for a picture, and he was randomly saying “rack rack city!” I just could not believe I blanked out in front of everyone! Justin is still Kidrauhl, and I am extremely proud of him. Beliebers, don’t ever give up on meeting him. Trust me when I say that you will meet him one day. Justin is so sweet us and he enjoys meeting everyone, you can just tell. You just have to be patient. And if Justin is reading this, thank you so much for putting a smile on my face and always being there for your beliebers. I can’t believe I said swag to you and you called me bro! You’re such a great role model and you inspire so many people like me. Swag!  – @Baby_Veronica  View post: My name is Veronica and this is My Bieber Experience. On March…

Cannes Jury President Nanni Moretti on His Plan For 2012 (and His Latest Film, We Have a Pope)

Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti’s films speak for introverted individual concerns at work in a group dynamic. In Dear Diary , a 40 year-old Moretti rides around Rome on his motorcycle trying to figure out just how much of a part he wants in a society where legendary poet/filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini has died and soap operas are insanely popular. Similarly, his latest film, We Have a Pope (a.k.a. Habemus Papum ), concerns a reluctant cardinal (an excellent performance by Michel Piccoli) elected to be the next pope but is too nervous to assume the role. Pope , which opens Friday in limited release, originally screened in competition at last year’s Cannes Film Festival — to which Moretti is planning his return next month as the president of this year’s competition jury. Talk about group dynamics. Moretti’s history as a competitor and juror at Cannes Film Festival (he previously served on the jury in 1997; he won the 2001 Palme d’Or for The Son’s Room ) makes him an ideal head juror. But with regard to his new film, it’s his outsider status as an atheist that Moretti feels makes his representation of the papal conclave so unique. “I don’t know what really happens in a conclave,” Moretti told Movieline last week. “But I wanted my conclave to be different from the ones we have seen in movies and TV, with cardinals that not only didn’t represent themselves as candidates but were afraid to become the pope. I’m not a believer. I have a lot of distance from the Catholic Church. So I can give, as a gift, humanity to a pope, a cardinal or a conclave.” Meanwhile, when it comes to being arguably the most influential film festival juror on the planet, Moretti says that there’s not really much you can do to prepare beyond perhaps buying some new suits, losing weight and brushing up on your English. “I won’t be able do do any of these things,” Moretti joked. “The suits, yes, but the English and the weight, no.” Still, Moretti plans to bring his specific — even unusual — philosophy to the role. To wit, he’s not looking for a unanimous vote. “I believe that’s a mistake on the part of juries,” he said. “You’re trying to give a prize because not everybody’s film is great. Every juror has to have a vote, which has to have the same importance as every other jurors’. And all of the films need to be seen and judged with the same amount of attention.” Moretti went on to add that he’s very much committed to the idea of rewarding singular excellence, no matter how divisive it may be. “It’s not the average film that should win — not the film that everyone agrees on but doesn’t make anyone happy. It should be the film that gains the majority of the votes; the film, or the actor or the actress. The jurors aren’t conditioned by the directors or the spectators or by the people running the festival. It’s just single jury members’ opinions that count.” Check back later this week for Movieline’s full, updated review of We Have a Pope. John Carter Plays Hard-To-Get In Exclusive New Clip

Star Taylor Kitsch stops by with never-before-seen footage from the film. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch in “John Carter” Photo: Disney As part of “MTV First: ‘John Carter,’ ” the man himself, Taylor Kitsch , sat down with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz to talk about his upcoming movie and share an exclusive clip. In the never-before-seen clip from “John Carter,” the titular hero plays a little hard to get with the Princess of Mars, Dejah Thoris ( Lynn Collins ). Carter needs to find a way back to Earth after his unintentional trip to Mars, or Barsoom, depending on which planet you call home, but he’s not exactly trusting of the Martian princess. The plot may seem a bit convoluted, but Kitsch said that it all boils down to a story about a man. “The core of it is truly a guy that’s been broken,” he said. “He lost his family and gets transported on to Mars, as you do, and has this opportunity in front of him. The people, a woman, Dejah Thoris, pulls it out of him. To use clich

The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence: "I’d Go Nude for the Right Movie" [PICS]

She made her name in Hollywood playing tough-minded, totally covered up teens in Winter’s Bone (2010) and the upcoming The Hunger Games (2012), but Jennifer Lawrence is showing her softer (and slicker) side in the new issue of Esquire. Jennifer posed in her skivvies for a set of highly greased-up pics that show her sporting an alluring post-workout look, which is appropriate considering the tough athletic training she went through filming her new movie. ” You can’t diet when you are filming a movie like The Hunger Games, running in 100 degree weather and doing all these stunts, ” she tells Glamour Uk of her intense regimen. “ Anyway, Katniss is supposed to be a hunter; she is meant to be scary. Kate Moss running at you with a bow and arrow isn’t scary. ” This isn’t the first time Jennifer has gone through a physical transformation for a movie- she sat through eight hours of makeup every day being covered in blue body paint and silicone scales for her role as Mystique in X-Men: First Class (2011). And she actually gained weight for the role, just in case you couldn’t tell it was a woman under all of that makeup: “ I’m really baby-faced ,” she says. “ I knew I was basically going to be naked on camera and I didn’t want to look like a little boy – I wanted to look like a woman. ” Well, you know, Jennifer, the best way to show audiences that you’re all woman is to lose the clothes entirely…what’s that? You’re down for that, too? “ So far, I haven’t found a film I’d love to be naked in, ” she explains. “ But I certainly never look at an actress naked in a movie and judge her. It’s a human body, which is a beautiful thing, right? So stay tuned… ” Oh we will, Jennifer. We will. See more slick, sexy pics of Jennifer Lawrence in Esquire after the jump!
