Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are trying to work it all out. We’re not talking about their relationship. The marriage is over. There’s no hope for reconciliation. We’re sorry to be the one who have to tell you that. But there are plenty of issues for every couple who gets divorced to work out, even those who signed a pretty straightforward prenuptial agreement prior to exchanging vows. According to People Magazine, however, the main topic at the center of Pitt and Jolie’s ongoing negotiations is the estranged twosome’s six children. Specifically: who gets custody of them and in what sort of arrangement? When Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on September 19, she requested joint legal custody … but primary physical custody, with visitation for Pitt. Conversely, Pitt insiders have said the actor will push for shared physical custody of their children, who are : 15-year-old Maddox, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. It is Maddox with whom Pitt is accused of getting into an altercation of some kind on board a private airplane, just days prior to Jolie’s divorce filing. Brad Pitt Hasn’t Seen His Kids Since… Any custody agreement the stars reach will need to be signed off on by a judge in order to make ensure it’s in the best interests of the kids. At the moment, the two sides (or lawyers for the two sides, we presume) are simply meeting in private. “If Angelina and Brad reach an agreement on custody, the judge assigned to the case will be delighted that these parents were able to work out something that they can live with and that makes sense for the family,” certified family law specialist Stephanie Blum, of Reuben Raucher & Blum, tells People. She is not actually involved in the case, it’s worth noting. It seems very unlikely that these private negotiations will result in Jolie earning the sole physical custody she desires. Because why would Pitt simply agree to it? “It is extremely difficult to be granted sole custody in a California court, absent some egregious behavior that directly impacts the best interest of the minor children,” says Los Angeles family law lawyer Atousa Saei, also to People. But then the claims of child abuse came out against Pitt and it’s difficult to know what to think. Did he really attack Maddox, both verbally and physically? Does he really have a drinking problem? Some parts of those rumors either have to be true… or it has to be true that Jolie is out to destroy Pitt and has planted various stories herself. Both of those scenarios are pretty disturbing when it comes to one of the few couples in Hollywood that everyone thought would really make it. We guess it’s on you now, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. Don’t you dare ever breakup. We wouldn’t be able to handle it.
