Seth MacFarlane Defends Jewish-Based Emmy Campaign

Seth MacFarlane has a message for those who take issue with his show’s unusual Emmy Award campaign, which includes a flier that pushes for Family Guy with the following lines: “Come on, you bloated, overprivileged Brentwood Jews. Let us into your little club.” Chill. Comparing the joke to Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes , the series creator told E! News: “Hollywood is a town of very well-to-do folks who live very comfortably. They have a very comfortable lifestyle, they do what they love, there’s not much that is bad in their life. So they should be able to laugh at themselves. If they can’t, it’s a rather sad thing.” And, as countless Family Guy quotes have made clear over the years, the sitcom isn’t above poking fun at everyone and everything. What do you think of the above poster? Does it go too far?

Candice Accola and Zach Roerig: It’s Over!

Vampire Diaries stars Zach Roerig and Candice Accola have broken up. The two cast members, who kept their relationship off-screen very low-key, first got together in the fall of last year. Apparently it’s over now , though. No reason was given for the split, first reported by Us Weekly . In October of last year, Accola tweeted a photo of Roerig, writing, “Cheering on my man at his second paddle board race! He kicked some major a**.” Roerig also tweeted a photo of Accola in a bikini on the beach with “Go Zach!” written across her stomach. “My number one cheerleader!” he wrote. That was about it for public acknowledgements of their romance, however. Accola, 25, plays bubbly vampire Caroline Forbes on the hit CW show. Roerig, 27, plays Matt Donovan, always a fan favorite … in TVD death pools. The show definitely keeps its romances in house. Paul Wesley is married to Season 3 guest star Torrey DeVitto, while Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are also a couple. [Photos: WENN.com]

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian Tease Romance In New ‘Keeping Up’ Trailer

‘Kanye and Kim, they’re kind of like two peas in a pod,’ Khloe Kardashian says in clip for ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Photo: Splash News “Kanye and Kim, they’re kind of like two peas in a pod,” little sister Khloe Kardashian says about Kim’s romance with Kanye West in a “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” teaser . While not much footage of Kim and Yeezy made it into the clip, the little bit that did will certainly spark interest in Sunday’s season premiere of the E! reality show. As Khloe narrates her feelings about the twosome, the trailer cuts to them sitting together, dressed all in black and sharing a laugh. Kimye isn’t the only headline that made the jam-packed show trailer. Kourtney reveals to her family that she’s having a baby girl , the family goes on a drama-filled vacation to the Dominican Republic and Lamar Odom ponders his basketball-playing future, telling in-laws Bruce and Kris Jenner, “I know that I can make any team a championship-caliber team. I got to just get back.” And, yes, the infamous red-carpet flour-bombing also makes the cut. Toward the end of the teaser, mama Kris proclaims, “I left my husband for this guy,” as footage of her hugging a mysterious man is teased. A teary-eyed Kourtney says, “I don’t understand. I could never do that to my children.” However, it is unclear what exactly will play out. When MTV News caught up with Kim and Khloe , the eldest Kardashian sister noted that she wanted to keep as much of her relationship with West as private as possible. “I don’t know if I’m ready to talk about him,” Kim said. “I feel like I’ve had such a hard time sharing my love life that now I’m a little bit more reserved on that.” While Kim was tight-lipped about her man, Khloe teased her sister a bit about the romance. “No I love, it. You’re like a wild, crowd-surfing child and I love you.” On Wednesday, Kim and Kanye were spotted in London, where Kim will launch her jewelry line. According to E! , the twosome touched down to lots of paparazzi. Kim will be doing some press while in town, including radio and TV appearances. Related Artists Kanye West

Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez ‘Not Engaged,’ Rep Says

Manager Scooter Braun tells US Weekly that Bieber’s management team was ‘laughing’ when they heard the engagement rumors. By Kara Warner Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage The celebrity relationship rumor mill has churned out another juicy one today (April 20) with reports that teen sweethearts Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are taking their romance to the next level and shopping for engagement rings. As expected, the rumor is just that. Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun told Us Weekly that the reports are “complete bulls—” and that the Biebs’ entire management team was very entertained by the fictional report. He said they were all “laughing” at the speculation. CLICK FOR PHOTOS OF THE HOT, STYLISH COUPLE So where did the rumor get started? Via a gossip item in the Chicago Sun-Times , which claimed that “several people close to the superstar couple” told the newspaper that they’re convinced an engagement announcement is in the very near future. The story went on to say that Bieber, 18, and Gomez, 19, were spotted at a couple major jewelry stores eyeing pricey diamond rings. The lovebirds have been dating for nearly a year and, despite the public scrutiny of their relationship, are a normal teenage couple who share a similar “dating philosophy,” according to Gomez. For Bieber, that philosophy includes honesty and patience. “I don’t know if I’m even the best boyfriend,” Bieber recently admitted to MTV News during an interview on the set of the music video shoot for his latest single, “Boyfriend.” “But I can give a few suggestions. I think being honest and patient, because girls can be tough sometimes, so you just got to be patient. That’s two. Forgive, and have fun, because it’s about having fun. Last one? Be faithful.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Justin Bieber Related Photos Young Love: Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez Related Artists Justin Bieber Selena Gomez

‘American Idol’ Cast-Off Colton Dixon Took A ‘Risk’

‘I chose that song and I ran with it and I think I did me and I loved it,’ singer says of song choice that got him axed. By Kelly Marino Colton Dixon Photo: MTV News After a record 53 million votes were cast, America has allowed Elise Testone to continue on with her “vacation” in the bottom three on “American Idol” Thursday night as Colton Dixon — a potential favorite — was voted off. And while this may come as the second-most surprising elimination of the season, the Tennessean, who found himself in unfamiliar territory with the fewest votes, acknowledged he only had himself to blame. “It’s all good,” Dixon told MTV News backstage after the show. “There is always going to be peaks and valleys, but [Wednesday] night, I should have chosen a different song to begin with. And I know that. I knew I was going to be in the bottom three because of that. I was hoping I wasn’t going to leave, but stuff happens.” The Mohawked metal rocker was rolling through the competition after receiving praise for his versatility and unique twists on perfect song choices. But Wednesday night he fell flat when he chose to start off with Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” which turned out to be more of a “Bad Rendition.” Even Jimmy Iovine was confused, calling his performance somewhere between “1985 Billy Idol on MTV ‘TRL’ to ‘Spider-Man’ on Broadway” — and we kind of agreed . As the night went on, Colton failed to redeem himself when he took to the stage a second time to perform Earth, Wind and Fire’s “September.” Crouched over his piano, the skinny, tight-jeans-wearing contestant took a more somber approach to one of the grooviest tunes in soul music. However, despite any further confusion caused by the arrangement, he still stands by his motto: Stay true and take chances. “I loved ‘September.’ ” Dixon explained. “It’s been one of my favorites that I’ve done on the show, just because it was so different than the original. A lot of people don’t like change, or so much change, you know, and I definitely changed that song and I understand the feeling that the original gave off. But um, that wasn’t me and that wasn’t my style. I chose that song and I ran with it and I think I did me and I loved it. So in some cases, there is a balance, but if you’re feeling something, you need to run with it no matter what they are going to say. It’s a risk every week. So you have to be willing to take that risk, and I did.” The risk may have caused him the competition, but the 20-year-old said he’s glad he got to have one last moment to himself when it came to performing his swan song, Lifehouse’s “Everything.” “I wanted to end tonight the way I started it,” Colton said. “I felt like I strayed last night, and I hate that I did but I was ready to bring it back and bring my focus back. I wasn’t singing for the judges. I wasn’t singing for my family or anyone in the audience. I wasn’t singing for anyone at all. I was singing for my Lord, the savior Jesus Christ. And we had a good time on that stage so I’m so glad I got to do that song.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. ‘American Idol’ Fresh Out Of Saves For Colton Dixon

Seeming front-runner shockingly voted off the show, joined in the bottom three by Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanagh. By Adam Graham Colton Dixon on “American Idol” Photo: Fox “Bad Romance” turned out just plain bad for Colton Dixon on Thursday (April 19), as the 20-year-old Tennessean — who had never before landed in the bottom three — was voted off “American Idol.” Dixon found himself at the bottom of the 53 million votes cast following Wednesday’s performance episode . Dixon, the Mohawk-mullet-wearing emo-rocker who entered “Idol” initially only as a show of moral support for his sister, performed a goth-lite version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” on Wednesday’s show, as well as an emo reading of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.” When given the news he had been voted off — and would indeed be going home, since the judges used their one-and-only save for the season last week to rescue Jessica Sanchez from oblivion — Dixon said sorry to his fans. “I need to apologize. I wasn’t myself last night, and I get it,” he said, turning to the judges. “I appreciate what you told me last night. I’ll take that when I’m making a record, and I’ll choose songs … ” He was cut off by Jennifer Lopez, who told him, “You’ll make many records,” and Randy Jackson, who offered, “You have a huge career ahead of you, man.” Dixon had received generally favorable remarks from the judges throughout the season but was dinged for his performances Wednesday, in particular for the Earth, Wind & Fire tune. In a video that aired Thursday (April 19) that caught him backstage, Dixon reacted to the criticism. “Ouch, that kind of stung a little bit,” he said. “But honestly, I’m not trying to sound cocky, but I don’t care.” Dixon was in the bottom three along with Hollie Cavanagh and perpetual bottom-dweller Elise Testone. Testone was sent back to safety first, leaving Dixon and Cavanagh to sweat it out. Host Ryan Seacrest was up to even more tricks than usual when handing contestants their fate Thursday; at one point he told Joshua Ledet, “I’m afraid … you didn’t get the right number of votes … to put you in the bottom three. You are safe!” (C’mon, Seacrest, that barely even makes sense.) Regarding Ledet, “Idol” mentor Jimmy Iovine remarked, “He could end up in the finale.” In a video package, Seacrest paid tribute to his mentor Dick Clark, who died Wednesday at age 82. The evening also saw performances from Kris Allen, who sang his new song “The Vision of Love,” and party rockers LMFAO, who apologized for their party-rocking ways with a typically raucous rendition of “Sorry for Party Rocking.” What did you think of “Idol” on Thursday? Coldplay Reveal Rihanna Clip From ‘Princess Of China’ Video

Pop star is in goddess mode in snippet from upcoming video, which band teased during Canadian tour stop. By John Mitchell Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Rihanna Photo: Getty Images Coldplay teased the upcoming video for their latest Mylo Xyloto single, “Princess of China,” during a tour stop in Edmonton, Canada, giving concertgoers their first look at Rihanna rocking the look she tweeted about from the video’s set in March. During the band’s performance of the song, the Barbadian pop diva appeared on an overhead video in full-on goddess mode with multiple sets of hands fanning out behind her and moving to the beat of the song. The guys of Coldplay are big fans of the “We Found Love” singer and told MTV News last year that they were excited to work with her because it was an opportunity to cross genres. “Her bit on our record is my favorite bit,” frontman Chris Martin told MTV News in September. “When the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it. And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we’ve been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music.” Coldplay have not yet announced when the full “Princess of China” video will premiere. Rihanna, who is also featured in Drake’s “Take Care” video , is readying her own clip for her new single “Where Have You Been.” She hasn’t said when the video will debut, but she posted some sexy stills from the clip to her Facebook earlier this week. ‘American Idol’ Report Card: Joshua Ledet Soars, Phillip Phillips Scores

The top seven sang for their lives on ‘Now and Then’ night; here’s how they all fared. By James Montgomery Joshua Ledet performs on “American Idol” Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images “American Idol” gave us the best of both worlds on Wednesday night, as the top seven sang something old and something new . That meant dusting off some classic soul tunes and coupling them with the current crop of shiny pop hits, and though you might not believe it, the results were actually pretty good. Yes, no doubt due to last week’s shocking near elimination of presumed front-runner Jessica Sanchez , the remaining “Idol” hopefuls were singing for their lives last night, and delivered a handful of genuinely great performances. Of course, a few tried to go outside the box, and the results… well, they were mixed. Still, a memorable show all around, and not just because of Colton Dixon’s Lady Gaga get-up. So who earned the night’s highest marks? Who should consider hiring a tutor? Read on for our “American Idol” report card! Joshua Ledet : Of course he did Fantasia. And, of course, his version of “I Believe” was amazing: lithe and limber, full of range and emotion, he’s the best male singer by a mile. Ledet also delivered big time with Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” which got off to an unintentionally hilarious start — Seacrest introduced it as “an emotional civil-rights anthem, coming to you live, from Joshua,” which was followed by a shot of Joshua holding a wind-up toy, grinning like a goofball — but no one was laughing by the end. He straight-up murdered it, with jaw-dropping power and prowess that earned him a standing ovation and some overtly sexual critique from Steven Tyler. Randy followed that up by taking shots at “The Voice,” only not overtly at all. Settle down, dawg. A Phillip Phillips : Let’s give a shoutout to Double P, who got out of the grouting business for one week only, first with a soft-core Skinemax take on Usher’s “U Got It Bad” and then a smooth (for him at least) spin through Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour.” Both were perfect choices, playing to his strengths — he is handsome — both left the ladies wanting more, and both had Steven Tyler talking like detective John Shaft (“No chump love, sucka.”) Game on, Colton Dixon. B+ Jessica Sanchez : Her version of Alicia Keys’ “Fallin'” was yet another powerhouse, as she set her intensity level on “simmer” and just let things cook. (Though for a minute, we were worried one of those umbrellas was going to fall on her.) We weren’t as crazy about her take on Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness” — sure, it was big and brassy, but also kinda growly, and seemed like a cruise ship performance. And could there be trouble brewing on the high seas for the formerly indestructible Sanchez? She got the dreaded “you need to connect” advice from Randy et. al, and J.Lo almost forgot the name of her alter ego, which might not bode well for her down the stretch. B Skylar Laine : Wait, she did a Lady Gaga tune?!? Yep. Breaking free of her country container (it’s like Tupperware), Laine took on “Born This Way,” and we loved it. She’s got spark and attitude for days, and when you get the feeling she’s really pushing herself (like Wednesday or “Wind Beneath My Wings” a few weeks back) there might not be a better performer in the competition. On the flipside, her version of Marvin Gaye’s “Heard It Through the Grapevine,” wasn’t exactly great, and perhaps Laine needs to learn that just because you’re jumping around on the stage, it doesn’t mean you’re connecting with the song. Still, another strong week. She’s the dark horse from here on out. B ” Hollie Cavanagh : “No thinking, just singing ” seemed to be her mantra this week, and it worked. She completed her manifest destiny by doing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” which was not only perhaps the biggest moment of the night, but had Steven Tyler talking about her tail feathers. Her version of Dusty’s “Son of a Preacher Man” was pretty much what you’d expect — faux swagger, some horns, a few nice notes — though the jury’s still out on whether Cavanagh actually connects with any of the voters. B Colton Dixon : For the second week in a row, he surprised with a song choice, taking Gaga’s “Bad Romance” down to the mall for a Hot Topic makeover. It didn’t necessarily work, but the girls loved it, so who cares? Though he needs to stop crouching like Spider-Man when he’s “rocking” out. Meanwhile, his version of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” got lost in an autumnal haze (maybe it had something to do with all the fallen leaves strewn atop his piano?) Not the strongest night for C. Dix… though we suspect he thought it went great. C- Elise Testone : A tale of two Testones tonight. She did Alicia Keys’ “No One” (we almost called it! ) and blew it out the box, with a performance that was restrained in all the right ways, big and booming in the best spots. But her gruff, kinda-goofy version of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” just never got on track and seemed like the worst possible song for her to sing. We love her, but we suspect this might be the week that does her in. C- Do you agree with our “American Idol” report card? Leave your comment below!
