As previously reported, Jermaine Jones will be cut from American Idol tonight – and now we have a much clearer idea why. The 6’8″ finalist is reportedly anything but a gentle giant, as TMZ has uncovered details from his March 5, 2011 arrest. Jermaine Jones – “Knocks Me Off My Feet” It stemmed from an incident at a Howard Johnson hotel in New Jersey, where Jones gave police a phony name and was charged with public nuisance and obstruction of justice, while also possessing outstanding warrants. Then, on 11/27/11, Jones gave cops a different fake name when the car he was riding in got pulled over. In this case, he was booked for hindering apprehension and giving false information to avoid self-discovery, while – again – having outstanding warrants in his (real) name. Moreover, sources say Jones has been “very aggressive” behind the American Idol scenes, once yelling at a staff members over his wardrobe selection. Still, despite his past transgressions, it’s conceivable Jermaine could have remained on the show if he had just been up front. Instead, he swore to producers that his record was clean. Honesty, readers. It remains the best policy.
Are Sandra Bullock and director/notorious playboy Brett Ratner engaged in a “dangerous” romance? One tabloid would certainly have you believe it, but no. This week, In Touch ran a cover with a laughing Bullock and Ratner Photoshopped atop her, with the headline reading, “SANDRA’S RISKY NEW ROMANCE.” The caption: “Two years after her divorce, she’s opened her heart and learned to trust again. But will dating Hollywood’s biggest player end in heartbreak?” Turns out the only thing Bullock is doing with Ratner is issuing statements. Bullock and Ratner issued the following statement to The Huffington Post , deriding the magazine while firmly denying any claims of a romantic connection : “We think that it’s incredibly sad that in these times, this magazine would resort to a complete fabrication, solely for financial gain,” the twosome said. “There is not a shred of accuracy in their story … We have not seen nor spoken to each for over a decade. We both had a great time after the Oscars.” “Just not with each other.”
I never would have thought I would see Ms. Braxton and her new “Friend” hooking up like this. Just for some reason not him…… This is what US Weekly is reporting: The singer, 44, and comic actor, 50, “are seeing each other and very into it,” a source tells Us Weekly, adding that the romance started up four months ago. The Tower Heist star — who has eight kids from previous relationships — even cheered on the mother of two (who’s been separated from singer Keri Lewis since 2009), backstage at her Feb. 19 L.A. concert. While Braxton’s rep insists “Toni and Eddie are just friends and have been fans of each other’s work for a long time,” the insider says, “Their kids have met and everything. It’s getting very serious.” In addition to first wife Nicole Mitchell, Murphy dated former Spice Girl Melanie Brown from 2006 to 2007, and exchanged marital vows with Tracey Edmonds in 2008 in a “symbolic” ceremony that was never made legal. Back in the late 1980s, Murphy was linked to another big-voiced R&B superstar: the late Whitney Houston. Braxton’s search for love after her split from Lewis was a major plot point in the most recent season of her reality show Braxton Family Values.
Eddie loves him a bangin’ bawwwdy so this shouldn’t come as a surprise but for some reason we never figured Toni Braxton as his type, but guess he decided he could take a detour from his usual tall and manly shtick to chop down the singer. Denzel Washington’s latest ekes out a win over ‘Ghost Rider’ sequel and ‘The Vow.’ By Ryan J. Downey Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in “Safe House” Photo: Universal Pictures Denzel Washington topped the box office over the holiday weekend as a comic book sequel flamed out. Two holdovers from last week, “Safe House” and “The Vow,” were neck and neck for the top spot during the four-day Presidents’ Day weekend and helped push box-office receipts to 11 percent over the same period last year. Washington’s “Safe House” was #1, with a four-day total of $28.4 million. “The Vow” followed just behind with $26.6 million, according to studio estimates. “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” was #3 with $26.4 million thanks to a very strong Monday. “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” opened at #4 with $25.7 million, followed by the debut of the Reese Witherspoon-starring “This Means War” at #5 with $20.4 million. “Safe House” has made $82.6 million thus far, making it the second-best 10-day run for Washington, just behind “American Gangster.” The drama looks likely to pass the $100 million mark, which will make it the fourth movie in the 57-year-old actor’s career to do so. “The Vow” has earned $88.5 million thus far, which means it is now the highest-grossing movie ever for the Sony/ Screen Gems brand. The second “Ghost Rider” film, based on the Marvel Comics antihero, opened with less than half of the 2007 original’s $45.4 million debut. Nicolas Cage reprises the role of Johnny Blaze in “Spirit of Vengeance,” which, despite featuring a darker take on the supernatural motorcycle rider (courtesy of the directing duo behind “Crank”), suffered even worse reviews than its predecessor. At press time, “Ghost Rider” sat at 27 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer , which averages reviews from critics, while the sequel sat at 15 percent. The weekend’s other new wide release, “The Secret World of Arrietty,” was #9 on the box-office chart with $8.1 million. The debut for the animated film, which features English-speaking actors recording new performances in the Japanese film, met with Disney’s reported expectations. Similarly, the romance-meets-action of “This Means War” wasn’t far off from the debuts of similar fare like “Knight & Day,” “The Tourist” or “Killers,” all of which had mostly negative reviews and opened between $15 and $20 million. “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menance” in 3-D suffered a bigger second-week decline than the similar 3-D re-release of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” but still added enough to the prequel’s all-time box-office total to push it past the original “Star Wars” to become the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time. “Phantom Menace” made $10.2 million over the four-day weekend for a domestic theater total of $36 million for the 3-D version. Two smaller but critically acclaimed pictures continued to benefit from awards season momentum over the weekend. The latest picture from Alexander Payne (“Sideways”), “The Descendants,” starring George Clooney, passed the $75 million mark, while silent film “The Artist” passed $25 million. Both movies are up for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards , among other nominations. ‘Love is always going to be a huge theme in what I write about,’ singer tells MTV News after premiering ‘Safe & Sound’ video. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News In 2010, Taylor Swift released the Grammy-winning Speak Now. The album was a study in the complexities of love and life, full of ponderings on the romance of new love and the pain of a broken affair. Drawing inspiration from her own life, the album topped the charts and kept Swift ever-present. As she embarks on her next album release, she tells MTV News that she’s still got work to do, even if her bosses at the record label are ready to pull the trigger on it. “So far, I’ve been writing so much in the last year and the label keeps telling me, ‘All right, we’re finished; all right, we’re satisfied; OK, this is done now.’ And then I just keep writing and I keep turning it in in different versions,” she told MTV News’ Sway during “MTV First: Taylor Swift,” when she dropped her video for her “The Hunger Games” track, “Safe & Sound.” “I’m going to work on it until I literally have zero time left to work on it, because I’m having so much fun working on this album,” she explained. “I made my last album, Speak Now, with this idea I really wanted to make an album without writing with anyone else just because I always wanted to do that. And now I have a different approach to this record. I’m getting to work with people that I’ve always wanted to work with.” That means that she’s seeking out some assistance “from all different places in music.” “I’m trying to be as much of a sponge as possible,” she explained. “You have to evolve and try new things and change and that’s what I’ve loved to do with this album.” But just because she’s trying some new things musically doesn’t mean she’s quite ready to move on from writing about love. “I think that love is always going to be a huge theme in what I write about just because there are no two similar relationships, there are no two times that you feel love the same way or hurt the same way or [feel] rejection [in] the same way. It’s all different and I’m fascinated by that,” she said. “I really love to go back to human interaction and the way we make each other feel. But that at 22 is different than it was at 18 or 19 when I made my last album and 16 and 17 when I made Fearless. As you grow, you change in the way you process emotion.” What are you hoping to hear on Taylor Swift’s next album? Leave your comment below! Related Videos MTV First: Taylor Swift
