Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Get Romantic In ‘When I Look At You’ Video

Track is from the real-life couple’s upcoming movie, ‘The Last Song.’ By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in her “When I Look At You” video Photo: Hollywood Records Miley Cyrus is a girl with a piano, a song and a hunky co-star in her new music video for “When I Look at You.” The track is Cyrus’ single from her film, “The Last Song,” set for release in March. And director Adam Shankman, who produced the flick, managed to capture the feeling of the film’s romance in the clip. The ballad’s video opens with a shot of a piano on a pier and from there we see a close-up of Cyrus, Hemsworth’s feet and then back to the piano. Soon Cyrus is playing the piano and continues to do so for most of the video. In fact, when she isn’t sharing longing looks or locking lips with Hemsworth, she’s at the piano, playing it in the woods, at the beach and in her front yard. There are shots of Cyrus singing about her dream boy in the woods and in fields of wheat. Her scenes with Hemsworth are incredibly relaxed and natural, no doubt due to the fact that the pair are a real-life couple. Although the video’s only overt reference to “The Last Song” is the romance between Cyrus and Hemsworth, it’s pretty clear by the locale and the aforementioned storyline that this is meant to get Cyrus’ fans excited for the film’s release. Cyrus is definitely growing up, something she’s wanted to prove to the world for a while now. And although there’s nothing particularly jarring in the clip, the vibe shows that Cyrus is most certainly ready to leave “Hannah Montana” behind. iTunes Sells 10 Billion Songs

Downloader who bought 10 billionth track wins a $10,000 iTunes gift card. By Ryan J. Downey iTunes hits ten billion sold Photo: Apple Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry helped drive sales of tracks on Apple’s iTunes store past the 10 billion mark Wednesday (February 24). And the person who bought the 10 billionth track gets a $10,000 iTunes gift card. The Black Eye Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” is the most-downloaded song on the store , with “Boom Boom Pow” landing at #3. Lady Gaga is the artist with the most songs toward the top, with “Poker Face” at #2, “Just Dance” at #6 and “Bad Romance” at #22. Other acts with tracks in the top 25 include Coldplay, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, the Fray and Owl City. All of the top 25 tracks were released in the past five years (Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” is the newest at #10) except for one: “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Classic rockers Journey undoubtedly have “The Sopranos” and “Glee” to thank for renewed interest in the unstoppable song, first recorded in 1981, which landed at #21. In 2006, Apple gave a gift card, 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods and a music-school scholarship set up in the winner’s name to the person who purchased the 1 billionth download. Apple’s iTunes store was known as the iTunes Music Store when it launched less than seven years ago, prior to the addition of videos, movies and TV shows. Onetime MTV News correspondent Iann Robinson helped introduce iTunes in an infomercial that ran in Apple stores and online back in the day. In it, Robinson explained what are now well-known concepts like single-track downloads, full-album purchases, free 30-second previews of songs, burning CDs and transferring to iPods. “These are the people that changed my life with the simple invention of the iPod,” he said in the six-minute-plus video. “Buy a song or a whole album. Either way, you get album art! Awesome!” Related Videos Highlights From iTunes’ Most-Downloaded Songs Of All Time Related Artists Black Eyed Peas Katy Perry Lady Gaga

Scoring Sunday’s Nuptials: Fly High, Snowbirds of Love. Fly High.

What do we talk about when we talk about snow ? Does it matter? Those are some cute dogs, right? [CLICK THEM.] It matters to the NYT’s Weddings & Celebrations section, though, and thus, matters to Gawker Weddings Expert Phyllis Nefler . In today’s op-ed in the New York Times Thomas ” The World Is Phat ” Friedman implored Americans to join together and become a “generation that renews, refreshes, re-energizes and rebuilds America for the 21st century,” dubbing this utopian cohort “The Regeneration.” Note to Friedman: you may want to skip over the Styles Section this weekend, lest you see the truth that we’re really just The Ski Generation. Perhaps it’s Olympic fever; more likely it’s just the Times relying on ski-related stories in the winter the way they’re all Montauk this and Wainscott that in the summer. Whatever the reason, Styles leads with a story about “the return of the American ski bum,” that Cloudveil-clad archetype, and later reminds us that the couples who ski together surely will be together. [ Ed. Projecting much hmm?!? ] Elizabeth Scott and Kris Barber first met when they worked together at Kansas City investment bank. (Is that like Equities in Dallas ?) It wasn’t until they “were part of a ski house in Breckenridge, Colo. for several winters” that their romance blossomed “through winters of skiing and summers of biking.” And because he didn’t want to get engaged on a pending trip to Europe — “too much of a cliche” — Barber instead went with a completely novel plan: on a hike in the the mountains. Near the ski house, natch. Scott and Barber are well on their way to becoming as badass as Polly Samuels and Andrew McLean , who were featured in Vows in 2005 and are checked up on this weekend. The pair’s love for the sport was such that they were married at “Our Lady of the Snows” chapel in Alta, walking out of the chapel “under an archway of ski poles held aloft by friends, many in ski boots.” McLean is well known in the skiing community for his backcountry prowess—he has skied in areas as far flung as New Zealand and Iran, was featured in the excellent and mindboggling documentary Steep , and keeps a website called StraightChuter.com —while Samuels went from being a prosecutor in the New York DA’s office to working as a lawyer in Park City. Ms. McLean, once a Type A Manhattan girl, is now a Type A mountain girl. In her own way, she is even more extreme than he is. In 2007 while five months pregnant with their first child, Mira, she accompanied him on a hut-to-hut trip in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. In New Zealand in 2006, he went ski mountaineering while she spent a week swimming with dolphins. Now 40, she competes with him in endurance races, including an annual one in which competitors climb up and ski down Sunlight Mountain Resort in Glenwood Springs, Colo. – continuously for 24 hours. “It doesn’t get really interesting until after midnight when you start hallucinating,” she said. They met in a yurt, and he proposed atop Mount Kilimanjaro. Their daughter, who is 2, “already has her own quiver of skis — ones for backcountry, others for resort skiing, all about the lentgh of a baguette.” Her name is Mira, after “a craggy, steep, continuous, daunting alpine face in Alaska.” Maybe you should try out that bunny hill after all. Elsewhere this weekend, a freelance photographer married a videographer who filmed “a whale rescue on ‘Untamed and Uncut’ on Animal Planet” (insert dork jokes here); the daughter of New York Knicks announcer John Andariese married a flight lieutenant in the British Royal Air Force , and I really hope Gus Johnson gave a toast at the wedding; and a raging health care reformer — hey, she likes Nader! — finally agreed to get married so that her fiance could get something a lil stronger than medicinal tea for his kidney stones. Say what you will, she’s got the “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” thing down pat. That last couple’s story, by the way, included this romantic vignette: Then, in 2004, Mr. Swift returned to Akron for Christmas and encountered Ms. Robbins at a local bar. When she said, “Let’s do a shot later,” he interpreted it as a polite yet definitive blow off. But as last call rolled around, Mr. Swift sidled up to her and said, “How about that shot?” “It was one of those running-through-the-lilies kind of moments,” she said. If that’s running through the lilies then my life is freaking Chariots of Fire. Alexander McQueen Hanged Himself, Inquest Finds

Police report that the late British fashion designer left behind a suicide note. By Gil Kaufman Alexander McQueen Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images A police inquest into the death of Alexander McQueen found that the 40-year-old British fashion designer hanged himself in a closet in his central London home last Thursday and left behind a note at the scene. According to a Reuters report, the postmortem examination of the fashion icon who was an inspiration to Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Madonna, found that he died as a result of asphyxia and hanging. Gaga paid tribute to McQueen at Tuesday night’s Brit Awards, dedicating her performance of “Telephone” to the designer and decking out the stage with a statue of what appeared to be the singer wearing a piano skirt and the now-famous McQueen lobster-claw heels she sported in her “Bad Romance” video . McQueen was found dead in his apartment at 5:30 a.m. on February 11, and police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Officials did not reveal the contents of the note McQueen left behind. The London Times reported that McQueen’s body was identified by his sister Janet on the day of his death and that the inquest was adjourned until April 28. McQueen was found dead on the day before the funeral of his mother, Joyce, whose death earlier this month reportedly devastated the designer. In the days before his death, McQueen tweeted that it had been an “awful week.” A representative for the McQueen family had no comment about the inquest, but presented a letter to the media asking for privacy. “This notice on behalf of the McQueen family [asks] for your recognition that it has suffered a grievous double loss in a very short space of time and that any insensitive and/or intrusive photographs and/or footage will only compound to the family’s distress.” Related Videos Remembering Alexander McQueen Related Photos Lady Gaga, Rihanna, More Love Alexander McQueen Fashion

Jay-Z, Lady Gaga Win Big At The Brit Awards

Lily Allen and Oasis also take home trophies in London. By Larry Carroll Jay-Z accepts the award for “Best International Male Solo Artist” at the Brit Awards Tuesday Photo: Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images It’s Lady Gaga’s world — we’re all just living in it. As if fans needed any more proof, the shape-shifting songstress swept the Brit Awards on Tuesday (February 16), taking charge of the U.K.’s high-profile music ceremony while winning three key categories — and paying touching tribute to fashion icon Alexander McQueen . Considered by many to be the British equivalent of the Grammys, more than 1000 industry insiders vote for the Brit Awards. In addition to Gaga, the evening’s big winners included Jay-Z, Lily Allen and Oasis — who received a special honor as their (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? was named best British album of the last 30 years. The big story of the evening, however, was Gaga . Nominated three times, the “Poker Face” singer swept her three categories, taking home Best International Album, Best International Female Solo Artist and International Breakthrough Act Supported by MTV Viewers. Gaga Steals The Brit Awards Show As expected, Lady Gaga stole the show with a daring outfit, performing in a Marge Simpson-height white wig and lace veil, accented by lace eyebrows. Less predictable, however, was her heartfelt words for one of the men who helped her become such an outrageous style icon. “Thank you to Lee McQueen,” Gaga said with a strained voice at one point, referring to the fashion designer whose lobster-clawed shoes adorned her feet in the “Bad Romance” music video. McQueen was found dead in his London home last Thursday (February 11). Of particular interest to American audiences might be the International Male Solo Artist category, which had Jay-Z triumphing over fellow heavyweights Eminem and Bruce Springsteen. The Brits also handed out special awards honoring the past 30 years, celebrating best album, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, and best hit song, the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe/Who Do You Think You Are.” Winners that may be of less interest to Americans include Florence & the Machine (British Female Solo Artist, MasterCard British Album), Dizzee Rascal (British Male Solo Artist), JLS (British Breakthrough Act, British Single), Kasabian (British Group), Elle Goulding (Critics’ Choice) and Robbie Williams (Outstanding Contribution Award). Lily Allen, in an orange wig, took home the Best British Female trophy. “This doesn’t happen to me very often,” she admitted. “So thank you very much. I love you.” Related Photos Gaga Steals The Show At The Brit Awards

Lady Gaga Pays Tribute To Alexander McQueen At Brit Awards

She performs ‘Dance in the Dark’ and ‘Telephone’ as a tribute to late friend and fashion icon. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs at the 2010 Brit Awards Photo: Jon Furniss/ Getty Images Lady Gaga might have won all three Brit Awards she was nominated for Tuesday (February 16), but it was her avant-garde tribute and performance to late friend and British fashion icon Alexander McQueen that stole the show. The star took to the stage in all white and sat at her piano before kicking off her performance with an acoustic version of her song “Telephone.” “This is for Alexander McQueen,” she told the crowd. The stage was decked out in white, and perched on a pedestal was a statue of what seemed to be Gaga wearing a piano skirt and the now-famous McQueen lobster-claw heels she wore in her “Bad Romance” video . Gaga Steals the Show at the Brit Awards She then got up from her piano as the disco groove of “Dance in the Dark” boomed throughout the room. In her lace bodysuit and over-the-top bouffant wig, she took to a giant keytar and dazzled the crowd with a techno rendition of the track. She then listed off names of fallen icons like Sylvia Plath and Judy Garland. The pop star arrived to the show dressed in a white dress and the same wig she wore onstage later that night. According to reports, Gaga retooled her whole performance to pay tribute to McQueen at the show. She later tweeted , “Tonight’s performance is inspired by our friend. Mask by Phillip Treacy, Sculpture by Nick Knight, Music by Lady Gaga. We miss you.” Last week, when news broke that McQueen had committed suicide, she tweeted a photo of the two of them as a tribute to her late friend. JFK’s Cheating Love Letters: The Modern Translation

John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline in 1953, but he was also creeping with many international beauties—including Sweden’s Gunilla von Post , who’s now auctioning off her love letters from the horndog president-to-be. He’s lucky there was no internet back then. JFK: “It now appears as though I shall be coming to Europe at the end of August. Will you be busy – or might it be possible to meet. What are you doing now. Will you stay there for the summer – or will you return to Cagnes. I thought I might get a boat and sail around the Mediterranean for two weeks – with you as crew. What do you think?” Modern translation: “Gurl U no we met on the internet but gurl U no I want U in real life. I’m coming to where U live soon, do U want to meet up? Let’s get a hotel and get nasty. Email me.” JFK: “I was very glad to hear from you again. I still believe I shall come to Europe in the fall – and would like to be sure that you could leave Sweden and come to Paris – or perhaps go to the Cote d’Azur (sic) – Qu’est-ce que vous pense (sic)? Let me know – as I do not want to drift through Europe waiting for a message from the North that never comes. Best, Jack.” Modern translation: “I’m glad UR into it 2 gurl. It’s like R. Kelly said, I wanna get nasty with U. But yo if I come U better not stand me up. For real.” JFK: “I am still in the hospital after two months. I was terribly disappointed that at the last moment I was not able to come to Europe – especially when you were going to be in Paris – and we could have had such a good time. I expect to be here another month – then go back to Washington in January – we will finish there in July – and then without fail – I shall come over – if you are not all settled down by then. Is there any chance you will be coming to the U.S.? Best, Jack.” Modern translation: “Gurl I am so mad I cud not come but I was broke. I still want 2 sex U up and down. Why don’t U come see me? Would save me some cash. Otherwise I still come C.U. Ok.” JFK: “”I must say you are a good correspondent. Under that beautiful, controlled face that still haunts me – beats a warm heart. There is a nurse on this floor that comes from Sweden. But she is dark-black haired. I say to her how could you leave the Venice of the North. But she replies – New York is so much nicer. How can she think that. She must be French. Why do you not suggest to the Swedish Automobile Association that they send you to the U.S. to explain the beauties of driving through Sweden to American tourists – or why couldn’t your cousin have been minister to Washington instead of Warsaw. I leave here Tuesday – and then go to Palm Beach for two months to stay with my family to recover and then go back to Washington. We stay in session in Washington until the end of July and then I return to the mountains of Cagnes. Your Jack. I shall be c/o J.P. Kennedy Palm Beach Florida until March – afterward back in Washington.” Modern translation: “Gurl I want U so bad. U even finer than beyonce. I’m going outta town, here’s my email so write me. My wife will never find out.” JFK: “Many thanks for your letter. I was delighted to hear from you. Send me your picture standing in front of 45 Skyransgatan (sic). I expect to be finished here around the first of August – I thought I would come to Europe around the 12th. If you are in Sweden – I shall come there. There must be a beach in Sweden. If you go to Italy I shall come there. I should like to get a boat and sail around. Qu’est-ce que vous pensez? And then in September – I shall go to Vietnam and Japan sadly. Did you see in the paper that our friend – the cold, frozen Mr. Gavin Welby – got married to Mr. Churchill’s secy. Something must have happened. I have not met your friend – Mona Boheman as yet – but I am looking forward to asking her if she knows a beautiful Swedish girl with a quiet smile who lived on top of a mountain in the Cote d’Azur (sic) in August 1953. Jack.” Modern translation: “Gurl U no U need to send me naked photo. Like they say in that song, U spin my head right round, right round.” JFK: “”I received your letter – and the picture of Visby and your photograph – which I liked best of all. I am now planning to come on the 29th of July on the Ile de France – which gets to Le Havre the 4th of August – or the 5th of August on the United States which gets in the 10th. Sweden must be more than 120 Swedish miles from Le Havre – or is a Swedish mile 5 times longer than anyone else’s mile? I assume you got to Stockholm to to meet your sister in August. Would you send me your address in Bastaad (sic) – and I will let you know exactly where I am. It is hot here – 101° – and I am anxious to leave and to see my Swedish friend. Jack.” Modern translation: “Gurl U no your picture turns me on. I’m coming to your neighborhood to get nasty. Get ready gurl. I am so hot.” Presidential! Read em all. [Pic via ]

Lady Gaga Will Deliver More ‘Magic’ Soon, Producer RedOne Promises

‘We’re just gonna rock again,’ hitmaker says of Gaga’s next LP. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Lady Gaga in the video for “Bad Romance” Photo: Interscope/Universal Lady Gaga might be busy touring, winning awards and keeping people guessing with her near-hourly costume changes, but producer RedOne, who collaborated with Gaga on her hits “Bad Romance,” “Just Dance” and more, promises that they plan to hit the studio again soon. “We spoke about it, absolutely,” RedOne — who picked up a pair of Grammys for his work with Gaga late last month — told MTV News. “So we’re gonna start very, very soon. I think within weeks, we’re just gonna rock again. When me and Gaga get together, it’s crazy. It’s unbelievable.” With so many hits under their belts and such high expectations, he admitted that he’s feeling some pressure. But RedOne, who recently produced the “We Are the World” remake , said pressure has helped him produce some of Gaga’s biggest songs. “It’s the same. It was a little pressure coming from ‘Just Dance,’ ‘LoveGame’ and ‘Poker Face’ — all these hits, they were massive. We got together, and the same magic happened,” he said of reuniting with Gaga for The Fame Monster. “We did ‘Bad Romance,’ it was incredible. We did it on a tour bus. When we get together, magic … that’s the beauty of it. She hasn’t changed at all to me.” So how will they top the massive popularity and undeniable charm of “Bad Romance”? Well, you’ll have to stay tuned. “You should wait for it,” he teased. “That’s the mystery. That’s what’s going to make it more special when it comes out.”
