‘SNL,’ Andy Samberg Sued By Producers Over ‘Like A Boss’

St. Louis production duo claim they wrote music for ‘Saturday Night Live’ skits ‘Shy Ronnie’ and ‘Like a Boss.’ By Gil Kaufman Andy Samberg Photo: Getty Images A St. Louis production duo who claim they created the tracks that became the “Saturday Night Live” digital shorts “Like a Boss” and ” Shy Ronnie ” have filed a lawsuit against the show and cast member Andy Samberg claiming they haven’t been properly paid for their work. StarStrukk Production members Aleric “Rick tha Rular” Banks and Monique “Foxx StarStrukk” Hines filed a lawsuit in New York Federal court last week against NBC Universal, Samberg, The Lonely Island, and Universal Republic Records for willful copyright infringement and unjust enrichment. According to The Hollywood Reporter the suit alleges that Samberg’s band, The Lonely Island, recorded the tracks submitted by the duo “verbatim,” and then added lyrics on top. Samberg performed “Like a Boss” with Seth Rogen on “SNL” on April 4, 2009 and in December of that year he got together with Rihanna for the Emmy-nominated “Shy Ronnie.” The pair told a local paper that they hooked up with Samberg through a mutual connection in California in 2008, when they submitted tracks to Lonely Island for the band’s debut album. “Like a Boss” was featured on the trio’s 2009 disc Incredibad , while “Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde” was featured in this year’s Turtleneck & Chain . In August 2010, StarStrukk told a local paper that they were excited about being nominated for an Emmy for the “Shy Ronnie” skit, which they said featured a beat they tried, unsuccessfully, to sell to local acts like City Spud and Yung Ro as well as Young Jeezy. But after not getting the credit they felt they deserved or being paid appropriately, they filed suit. Banks claims he signed a form sent by the Universal Music Group in which he stated that he was a 50 percent owner of the copyright on “Like a Boss” as the writer and producer of the tune. According to the suit, he received a response letter that only gave him 25 percent interest in the tune. But, so far, Banks says he hasn’t gotten any producer royalties or profits from the songs. A spokesperson for NBCU could not be reached for comment at press time.

Simon Cowell Looking For ‘Unusual People’ At ‘X Factor’ Auditions

‘I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,’ Cowell says of contestants. By Jocelyn Vena Simon Cowell Photo: Brian Ach/ WireImage With only days until the first official “X Factor” audition kicks off, Simon Cowell recently dished to MTV News about what he’s looking for in an “X Factor” contender. And he admits he doesn’t mind if contestants are a bit freaky. “I love unusual people. I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,” Cowell laughed. “I like that we’re going to be very open-minded. I think we’re going to have good enough people on this panel that we’re not gonna miss out on anyone who’s got potential.” So far, that judging panel includes famed record executive L.A. Reid , with more names to be announced soon. Mariah Carey reportedly passed on a judging opportunity, and Enrique Iglesias has been rumored to be a potential host for the show. Cowell says that with so much to gain as the winner of “X Factor,” it’s all about going big or going home. “Well, you know, there’s $5 million at stake on this show, we’re guaranteeing a winner a recording contract … so we’re looking for somebody who’s not just gonna be an artist who sells records in America,” he explained about making sure that special someone has global appeal. “We want someone who’s gonna sell all over the world,” he continued. “You look at what’s happened over the last couple of years, I think originality is key and you’ve got to be different to what’s out there already … I would say on this show, we’re much more open to people being ‘out there’ and anything goes, basically.” Audition dates for the show begin on Sunday, March 27, in Los Angeles, and continue on April 7 in Miami, April 14 in Newark, New Jersey, April 20 in Seattle, April 27 in Chicago, and May 26 in Dallas.

‘Jersey Shore’ Stars Tease A ‘Drama’-Filled Season Finale

‘There are fights, but there are good times,’ Deena says of the episode, which airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. By Eric Ditzian, with additional reporting by Ade Mangum Deena Cortese Photo: MTV News How did this season of “Jersey Shore” go so fast? It seems like just yesterday we were embarking on a new journey in Seaside Heights, wondering if Sammi and Ronnie might actually get together, how Deena would fit in with her new roomies and whether the show’s honorary castmember — the duck phone — would be defiantly quacking away on a daily basis. And now, just like that, the season is coming to an end on Thursday (March 24) with a final, drama-filled episode. It’s like we popped into a tanning bed for a little UV-base building and woke up looking like Fozzy Bear. Not cool! At least we’ve got a new, Italian-flavored “Shore” season coming down the line soon. Until then, it’s time to get pumped for the season finale, and to that end, Deena and Vinny gave us a couple of teasers. “It’s very important to watch this episode, because it’s like watching the first one: You have to put an end to things you started,” Vinny told MTV News. “You’re going to see your basic fighting and drama, like Deena — I got into a little fight with her. You’re going to get the Ronnie and Sammi fighting. You’re going to get a lot of comedic moments as well. There are a lot of cliffhangers that still aren’t answered, and this last episode will put a button on everything.” It might be a little fight in Vinny’s eyes, but Deena called that war of words — centering on the ongoing, friends-with-suspect-benefits relationship between Vin and Snooki — the single incident on the show she wished never happened. “The least favorite moment was me fighting with Vin in the upcoming episode, just because Vin’s one of my best guy friends in the house,” she told us. “Even though I was trying to be a good friend to Snooks, it is what it is.” Oddly enough, Deena’s favorite event of the season also involved a fight, albeit one of a much more lighthearted variety. “The moment that I loved the most was the water fights and the pranks, because that really shows how close our bond in the house really was,” she said. “Although we fight sometimes, our bond will never break and we really do have a good time together.” And it’s the roommates’ togetherness, above and beyond their less glamorous moments of brawling and boozing, that the season ender ultimately highlights. “The finale is one of the best episodes. It shows drama, comedy — anything you want,” Deena said. “There are fights, but there are good times. The whole episode sums up our family.” Don’t miss the “Jersey Shore” season finale tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. ‘Jersey Shore’ High Five: Say My Name, Snooki

Plus: Sammi’s exit, Deena’s cake fight and more top moments. By Jim Cantiello Snooki and Gianni on Thursday’s episode of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV Elaborate pranks! Mystery panties! And Ronnie’s sad that he verbally abused his girlfriend! Check out the video below for my five favorite moments from this week’s ” Jersey Shore .” 5. Cake Boss The aftermath of Sammi and Ronnie’s blowup is still being felt. But Deena knows how to cheer everyone up! “I miss Sammi,” Deena says. “Everyone’s in a f—in’ mood, and Ronnie’s just, like, toxic. We decide, ‘Yo, let’s throw cake in Vinny’s hair!’ ” That’s how Deena lightens the mood? Remind me never to go to a Cortese family funeral. 4. Prank War The cake in the face led to an all-out prank war, with Vinny prepping some water balloons for revenge. “You do not prank me,” Vinny says. “I have brains. You could put Deena’s and Nicole’s brains together and their brain still wouldn’t equal mine.” Then, Vinny proceeds to drop his water balloon on the floor. “What happened?” Pauly D asks. “Ya just got yourself?” Vinny went to law school, you guys. I just thought I should bring that up. 3. Sammi Goes Home Sammi may have escaped Ronnie’s wrath, but she didn’t escape MTV cameras, which followed her back home to catch a heart-to-heart with her mom about the destructive relationship. So in this episode, we had serious scenes that addressed abuse surrounded by silly scenes about dirty panties and constipation. Since when did Tyler Perry start directing this show? 2. Cab’s Here! You’re just going to have to check out the embedded video for Pauly D ‘s best “cab’s here” moment ever. Trust us. 1. What’s Your Name? Snooki got it in with that dude who had that uncle who c—blocked Vinny. His name escapes me. What was it — Mario? Giovanni? Esperanza Spalding? Snooki: “I haven’t gotten it in in like four months, and the fact that I have a boy who wants to get it in? Please, let me live!” Gianni: “Say my name.” Snooki: “…” Gianni: “Oh my God!” Snooki: “No, I know it!” Gianni: “No you don’t.” Snooki: “No, I swear.” Snooki [in the confessional]: “I have no idea what this kid’s name is, so I might as well just give him an ugly name.” Gianni: “What is it then?” Snooki: “Bernard.” Gianni: “Oh my God!” And they hook up anyway. Gianni, your name is no longer relevant. What was your favorite “Jersey Shore” moment this week? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Jersey Shore Recap: She’s Finally Outta Here!!!

This week’s Jersey Shore marked the departure of Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola. A permanent exist, we think – and hope – after the fight to end all fights. As much as we aren’t sorry to see her go, we’ll give her this much – she went out in style after a blowout with Ronnie Magro that exceeded even their standards. This comprised most of the memorable Jersey Shore quotes and scenes from the episode, as we’ve broken down, as always, in our trademark +/- recap below: BOILING POINT: Ron wants Sam’s stuff out of here … with her on top of it. Ronnie confronts The Situation for violating guy code. Funny how, like Sammi pointing the finger at JWoww and Snooki, they always blame others. Minus 5 . Able to see the big picture (take note, Ron), Sitch “takes the high road” and apologize to ensure it doesn’t end in a brawl. Plus 4 for his surprising maturity. He hits the boardwalk to cool off, unaware that Sammi is also heading there with Deena, who “loves single Sammi!” Who loves anything Sammi!? Minus 6 . Sam tells Ron that she’s “never been so hurt” in her entire life as she was in Miami. Ron politely tells her he’s done paying for that and to suck it. Plus 8 . “I’m going to go out there and find the hottest guy in this bar and get Ron back for talking to a girl,” says Sam. Minus 5 for sounding like a petulant, whiny b!tch and Minus 12 for the fact that the “hottest guy” may be a homeless man. Plus 11 for JWoww’s porn star getup here: SEXY JWOWW : Snooki likely isn’t the only one with wood. Snooki: “Jenni looks so hot. Like porn star hot. If Roger wasn’t here then I would probably have sex with her.” Snooki may actually be a man. Plus 8 . She actually asks if she can watch, too. Gross. Minus 5 . Roger sums it up nicely: “Awright, let’s go push.” Plus 9 . Ronnie: “What I did in Miami, at least I had enough respect for you to do it when you’re not around.” He’s right, that totally makes it better. Minus 6 . Pauly notes that Ronnie has kind of a temper. That’s like saying Pauly has kind of awesome hair or The Situation kind of has a six pack. Plus 4 . Things boil over between Ronnie and Sammi to the point where they both have to be physically restrained. Minus 5 , because this is just getting sad. Until Ronnie starts TRASHING HER STUFF and threatening to start boning up a storm with girls in the smash room. Now that’s more like it. Plus 27 . Minus 9 for Snooki’s bed/stairway/Vinny schlong analogy, though. SAYING GOODBYE: It’s been real, Sam. Please don’t come back. Sitch: “This was probably the worst fight I’ve ever seen. Like a five-car crash; horrible, but you can’t keep your eyes off it. Plus 10 , ’cause it’s true. Minus 14 for this metaphor by MTV: “Everything is destroyed of mine,” she says. “Everything is broken and ruined.” Her emotions AND her stuff! Get it??! The roommates hug it out as Sammi departs. We’re actually a little bit sad saying farewell to one of the original cast members. Okay, that’s over. Plus 7 . Pauly could have at least hollered “Cab’s Here!” in honor of her exit. Minus 3 . Ronnie: “I miss her and I love her and I definitely regret all the negative $h!t I’ve ever done. Definitely more now than ever.” Aww. But WE don’t! Plus 9 . TOTAL: +25. SEASON TOTAL: +177.

Jacqueline Dunford And Nick Fink Split By ‘American Idol’ Hollywood Week

Dunford moves ahead while Fink begs for another chance after being cut. By Mawuse Ziegbe Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Not even “American Idol” couple Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink’s cheery love could salvage a shaky audition. Fink and Dunford, who were aiming to be ” ‘American Idol’ ‘s first power couple,” charmed audiences with their affectionate, googly-eyed banter (“I like to think of Nick being me in boy form,” Dunford said at their Arizona audition) and won over the judges with their equally sweet voices. However, the power of love couldn’t keep the wannabe “Idol” pair together in the competition after Fink turned in a weak second audition during day one of Hollywood Week . Holding hands as they waited to show off their pipes once again, Fink went in front of the judges first. Sporting a satin blazer and blue T-shirt, Fink sang Paolo Nutini’s “New Shoes,” but his paper-thin vocals lacked the refined smoothness of his Arizona audition. Jacqueline, however, rocked it, taking the stage in a jaunty flower hairpiece and gray cardigan and assuredly belting Sam Cooke’s “Bring It on Home to Me.” Their hands were entwined as they waited for Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler to divide hopefuls into two lines, but they had to separate when Fink was called up front and Dunford remained in the back. Then, to Fink’s disappointment and Dunford’s delight, the panel dismissed the front line and congratulated the back line. Although they tried to empathize with each other, Dunford was clearly suppressing her giddiness as she gazed at the dejected Fink. Fink didn’t take the rejection well at all. As the auditioners headed off the stage, the 19-year-old crooner grabbed the mic and pleaded with the judges to give him another shot, saying he “wanted to continue with his baby. I’m so happy for her, but I just wish you guys would let me sing, like, a teeny bit more.” Jackson dashed his hopes once again, insisting that everybody got just one chance, adding, “You gotta leave it all on the stage.” Still, as Fink reluctantly filed down the aisle — Dunford had already quietly gone ahead — he tried once more to belt “Shoes,” sounding no better than he had moments before. Eventually, Fink caught up with Dunford and hugged his lady. Chopping it up with Ryan Seacrest afterward, she explained that they didn’t even entertain the idea they might be separated heading into the competition, while Fink asked Seacrest, “Are you hurt by this?” While Fink was clearly hurt, at least he still had his girlfriend. As Seacrest noted, it’s time for Fink to cheer his lady on as she chases “Idol” fame alone. What did you think of Fink and Dunford being separated on “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments! ‘Jersey Shore’ High Five: Ronnie Teaches Us How Not To Apologize

Sammi and Ronnie’s relationship dies a 30-minute-long death in latest episode. By Jim Cantiello Ronnie on Thursday’s episode of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV Ever wish you could watch a snuff film about the death of a relationship? You’re in luck. Check out the embedded video to catch my five favorite moments of this week’s intense “Jersey Shore.” 5. Boardwalking While blowing off steam on the boardwalk, Ronnie and Pauly D walked by Sammi and Deena. Turns out Sam’s eyesight is as good as her taste in men: As Ronnie passes by with Pauly, Sammi asks Deena, “Was he with a girl? I think he was with a girl!” Ok, OK, in Sammi’s defense, Pauly D does look exactly like the sister from “Dinosaurs.” 4. How Not to Apologize, Part I It’s been about two seconds since we’ve last watched Sammi and Ronnie rehash the crap that went down in Miami. Will the 9 millionth time be any different? Let’s find out! Sammi: “How could you sit there and look me in the face, watch me cry, lie to my face?” Ron: “I have enough respect and love for you to f—ing admit what i did was f—ing wrong and is shameful and disrespectful … ” Whoa, whoa, whoa. Did Ronnie just officially apologize? Ron: ” … You’re so f—ing dumb and hardheaded that you can’t even admit what you did to me in Atlantic City was wrong, what you did to me at Jersey Shore was wrong. Be a woman and man up for once. I had a reason to sh– on you in Miami. Realize that.” And that was how not to apologize, brought to you by RonRon Juice. “RonRon Juice: ‘Roid rage in a bottle™.” 3. The Fight Freshly broken up — yes, they broke up — Ronnie and Sammi’s fighting escalated to insaaaane new heights. Did anyone else want to cry uncle every 30 seconds this episode? Congratulations, Sharon Stone in the third hour of “Casino”: You are no longer the most hysterical woman I’ve ever seen on my television! 2. How Not to Apologize, Part II Sammi retaliated by skanking it up at a club with a dude who belonged on HotGuysWhoLookLikeLesbians.com, and Ronnie wasn’t havin’ it. So he retaliated by trashing all of Sammi’s crap, including her glasses. Dude, come on, now. Grow the f— up. And that brings us to yet another installment of “How Not to Apologize.” Ron: “You f—ing disrespected me in front of my face. What i did in Miami, at least I had enough respect for you to do it to you while you’re not around.” Yes, Ronnie. Nothing says respect like three-way kissing two girls at a club behind your current girlfriend’s back and then stumbling home and having sex with your girlfriend the same night. Oh. And reality-TV cameras are documenting all of it. That is the epitome of respect. 1. Sneaker Pimp Despite all the drama, which ended with Sammi leaving the house, Pauly D kept his priorities straight. Pauly D: “I’m over here trying to clean my sneakers. I can’t concentrate! All this fighting! They’re talking about relationships, my sneakers are dirty!” Pauly D, for making me laugh in the midst of one of the biggest, most upsetting blowups in reality-TV history, I salute you. And your bottle of 409. Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Related Videos ‘Jersey Shore’ High Five Highlights
