Amanda Knox Pleads For Freedom to Jury

Four years after she was arrested on suspicion of having killed her roommate in Italy, American Amanda Knox pleaded for a jury to overturn the conviction. “People always ask who is Amanda Knox? I am the same person I was four years ago. But I have lost a friend. I have lost my faith in Italian police,” she said. “I am paying with my life for something I have not done. Four years ago I didn’t know what suffering was,” she added , delivering her statement in Italian. “I did not kill. I did not rape. I did not steal. I was not there.” In her second trial, Knox and co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito are fighting to be acquitted of the murder of Meredith Kercher. They were convicted in 2009. Prosecutors, meanwhile, have called for their sentences – of 26 and 25 years, respectively – to be increased to life. Two judges and six jurors will decide. Amanda Knox’s appeal has focused largely on DNA evidence found on a knife and on a bra clasp belonging to the victim. They argue it’s not enough. Closing arguments was Knox called “Lucifer-like, demonic and Satanic,” but her defense says that like Jessica Rabbit, she’s not bad, just “drawn that way.”

Amanda Knox Freed

Amanda Knox, a University of Washington student studying in Italy, was portrayed in the European press as an amoral, pot-smoking party girl – an “angel-faced killer,” in one headline – and was sentenced to 26 years in prison. More than two years after Amanda Knox was convicted in the brutal murder of her roommate in Italy, a judge appears likely to free the American woman because of problems with the DNA evidence. An independent report by forensic experts has questioned the validity of tests o

Tyler Clementi’s Roommate Indicted On Hate Crime Charges

Clementi’s September suicide inspired nationwide anti-bullying movement. By Gil Kaufman Tyler Clementi Photo: Facebook A New Jersey grand jury indicted Rutgers University student Dharum Ravi on 15 charges on Wednesday in connection with the September suicide of his roommate, Tyler Clementi . The charges came nine months after Clementi’s death inspired a nationwide anti-bullying movement that has drawn support from everyone from Lady Gaga to President Obama, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry. According to The New York Times, after initially being charged with invasion of privacy, Ravi was accused in Wednesday’s indictment of acting with antigay motives in posting a romantic encounter between Clementi and another man online, a hate crime that could result in a sentence of five to 10 years in prison if convicted. In addition, the grand jury charged Ravi, 19, with an attempted cover-up in the case, accusing him of deleting a Twitter post that had alerted others about a second encounter Clementi had planned with the man and replacing it with a post that was “intended to mislead the investigation.” Prosecutors also claimed that Ravi attempted to persuade some witnesses not to testify against him. Prosecutors explained on Wednesday that the bias-intimidation charges were based in part on events that began on August 6, when Ravi learned his roommate’s name, later announcing on Twitter that Clementi was gay. “The grand jury charged that the invasion of privacy and attempt to invade the privacy of

Epitome Of A Bad Mother: Houston Woman Gets Slizzed Off Four Loko… And Her 1-Year-Old Does Too!

This is a damned shame… A Houston woman was facing felony child endangerment charges Thursday after police allegedly found her and her one-year-old baby both drunk on the infamous alcoholic energy drink Four Loko, local media reported. According to Houston Police, Lashwanda Allen, 32, said she had been drinking Four Loko and fell asleep with her children next to her and the drink beside the bed. When she awoke, she told police, her one-year-old daughter was holding an empty can and was stumbling around like she was drunk, KTRK reported Police said that the incident was reported to them after Allen’s roommate found her wandering the halls of her north Houston apartment complex. When the roommate asked of the whereabouts of Allen’s two children, Allen replied that they were inside the apartment and drunk. According to police, the roommate found Allen’s four-month-old daughter hanging upside down from the bed, with sheets wrapped around her waist. The baby girl was turning blue, police said. Soon after, police said, a neighbor found Allen’s one-year-old daughter in the complex’s parking lot. Allen’s roommate called for an ambulance. According to police, the one-year-old was legally intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .09. Allen was being held Thursday at Harris County Jail on $2,000 bond. Getting drunk before your second birthday is not the business. That woman deserves to be whipped for being so negligent. And this woman’s neighbor said she actually has five kids!!! SMH. Source

Mike Starr’s Death Should Be A Warning, Addiction Specialist Says

‘As tragic as that is to watch, almost 20 million people are living in recovery,’ Robert J. Lindsey says of ex-Alice in Chains bassist’s death. By Ryan J. Downey Mike Starr in 1990 Photo: Marty Temme / Getty Images The death of ex-Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr raised a number of questions for his fans , as the loss of anyone who publicly struggled with drugs or alcohol often does. Why wasn’t his treatment, documented on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House,” a success? Why can’t someone like Starr just stop using drugs? “[The addiction] literally hijacks the person’s brain and takes over,” Robert J. Lindsey, president and CEO of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, told MTV News on Wednesday (March 9). “For somebody who has become physically and emotionally addicted, stopping and staying stopped is the hardest thing in the world to do. “The first thing to understand about alcoholism and addiction is that it’s similar to other chronic illnesses, like heart disease or diabetes. It’s chronic, it’s progressive and it’s fatal if it’s untreated,” he added. “Some people, despite the best efforts on their part and others, will die from their addiction. It’s our hope that Mike’s death will serve for many as the opportunity for them to either seek help for themselves, a friend or family member.” The NCADD estimates that there are more than 23 million people in the United States who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs. “That’s almost 10 percent of the population,” Lindsey pointed out. And while Starr’s death made headlines, as the seemingly endless relapses of other celebrities do as well, he’s quick to illustrate the growing picture of treatment. “It’s equally important to highlight the fact that we estimate that maybe 20 million individuals and family members are living lives in recovery today.” The history of Alice in Chains is unfortunately tied to drugs, specifically heroin, in many ways. The group wrote several songs about it and regularly disappeared from the limelight while singer Layne Staley battled his demons . He eventually died of an overdose of heroin and cocaine in 2002 while living as a virtual recluse. Starr had been gone from the group for nearly two decades already, reportedly fired for his inability to manage his own drug habits. In more recent years, he seemed to be doing well on “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House.” He was living in Salt Lake City, Utah, and reportedly making music with Days of the New when he was arrested on suspicion of drug possession during a traffic stop last month. TMZ reported on Wednesday that Starr had been mixing methadone and anxiety medication just hours before his death, according to his roommate. The report maintains that Starr was using the drugs as part of his effort to stay clean and had been “doing a pretty good job.” “In terms of recovery, for most that are successful, it starts with abstaining completely from the use of alcohol or other drugs,” countered Lindsey. “At the same time, we certainly have had some experience that in some cases some medications can be very helpful in people’s recovery. But it needs, absolutely, to be managed by a physician who is both specifically trained, experienced and certified in addiction medicine. This is not something that can or should be done by the individual or done with a physician who is not certified in addiction medicine.” So what separates someone like Starr from rockers like Keith Richards or Lemmy from Mot

By Jayson Rodriguez Stalley Photo: Jan Ferrer Main Pick Street King : Stalley Holding It Down For : Massillon, OH Mixtape : Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) Real Spit : Stalley is a hometown hero. He might have moved out of his home state of Ohio, first by taking a scholarship to play hoops at the University of Michigan then later at Long Island University. But his heart never left Massillon, a blue-collar town bred on basketball and football dreams. For his latest project, Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music), he recruited a fellow Ohioan, producer Rashad, and the two created the soundtrack to Massillon’s night life. “It’s paying homage to my hometown, and in my hometown there’s a street called Lincoln Way that everyone cruises on Friday and Saturday nights, showing off the cars, whether it’s an old muscle car or a new-school paint-up car with a loud system. This is something I wanted to give back, as far as a music project, for that strip. Something that people can actually ride out to or be that soundtrack to that journey.” Start it up. Aubrey O’Day’s Over-The-Top Doggie Love Makes For A TV First

‘All About Aubrey’ reality star calls her pups ‘the loves of my life.’ By Matt Elias Aubrey O’Day Photo: MTV News There are moments in television that go down as “TV firsts,” and on the premiere of Aubrey O’Day’s reality show, “All About Aubrey,” on Monday night, that moment occurred around minute 32. To put it delicately, O’Day gets the idea to preserve her Pomeranian’s prosperity by collecting and freezing his, um, sample. Don’t let it throw you that his name is Mary Ann: O’Day says in her household, “We don’t do gender-bias names.” In the scene, O’Day tasks her roommate/assistant with collecting the canine donation with a do-it-yourself kit (the miracles of the Internet!). After the assistant has some difficulty finishing the job, O’Day takes matters into own hands — literally. “Can we get him a hot towel?” O’Day asks at the climax of the scene. With the mission completed, the future is secure for the next generation of Mary Ann’s, along with its place in TV history. Of her rather-extreme devotion to her pups, O’Day told MTV News, “I actually just got a Twitter from someone saying that I’m like the canine version of ‘Toddlers and Tiaras,’ which I really do believe. Not in like a stage-mom crazy kind of way, but my dogs are so pampered and are the loves of my life, and they are everywhere I go and then some.” In this case, place the emphasis on “and then some.” What was your favorite scene in “All About Aubrey”? Tell us below!
