Jason Russell Describes His Mental Breakdown You may remember when Kony 2012 director Jason Russell spazzed the fawk out back in March, well Oprah has reached out the raving lunatic in a another sad attempt to save her struggle-channel OWN to give him chance to tell his story. Via NYDailyNews : Seven months after he became a household name, Jason Russell is hoping to be a viral sensation once again – preferably with his clothes on this time. After shooting to fame with the release of his film “Kony 2012” in March, which racked up 100 million YouTube views in less than a week, Russell eclipsed his own project just 10 days later when a video of his naked meltdown on a San Diego street corner exploded online. Now the controversial filmmaker is back with a new movie about the Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, and he wants to set the record straight about his former flameout. “It’s hard to explain if people have never had an out of body experience, but it really wasn’t me,” he told Oprah of his meltdown, in an interview for “Oprah’s Next Chapter” that aired on Sunday. “That wasn’t me, that person on the street corner ranting and raving and naked, is not me. That’s not who I am.” He goes on to say: “My mind couldn’t stop thinking about the future. I literally thought I was responsible for the future of humanity,” he told the “Today” show on Monday. “It started to go into a point where my mind finally turned against me and there was a moment where, click, I was not in control of my mind or my body.” “I thought, ‘I have to get to New York in the next 12 hours.’ That’s what I thought,” he told Oprah. “’Because I have to stop the war.’ So I ran out to the front and I think I was trying to ask cars to take me to the airport. In my underwear.” In response to accusations of him being gay and “self-pleasuring” himself during his blackout Russell says: …he said he was simply “theatrical” and denied rumors that he had performed a lewd act during his meltdown. “There were rumors of masturbation, but no one who was there ever said that that was happening,” he told Oprah, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m naked so it’s not a far extension of imagination that that would be happening but, no, I don’t remember any of that, and no one we knew there said that I was. I don’t remember anything except like a half-second. I don’t.” Russell was later diagnosed as having a psychotic breakdown that caused temporary insanity, and says he has been doing yoga and therapy to recover. Bruh, you were running around nekkid. You might wanna turn away, Katy Perry… Multiple sources confirm that the blue-haired singer’s ex-husband has started up a relationship with Isabella Brewster, as the sister of actress Jordana was spotted strolling through West Hollywood with Russell Brand over the weekend. “It’s been going on for a few weeks,” an insider tells Us Weekly of Brand and Brewster , who has also dated Bradley Cooper and Milo Ventimiglia. “He really likes her.” The actor/comedian recently split from Perry after 14 months of marriage, with the singer admitting it was difficult for the pair to maintain their initial romance. She’s been linked to musician Robert Ackroyd of Florence + the Machine, but it appears as if Brand’s fling with Brewster may be a bit more serious. “She’s cute,” added the tabloid source. “She is all over him and Russell loves it.”
Sales of the Black Keys’ singles were up by double-digits thanks to their Johnny Depp-assisted Movie Awards performances. Among the big winners were the Black Keys , Wiz Khalifa and Fun. , who all saw double-digit increases for sales of their albums and/or singles after their spots on the show. The Keys got the biggest lift, with an assist to Generation Award winner Johnny Depp , who sat in on a pair of songs with the Akron, Ohio, blues duo. Thanks to their prominent spot on the show, sales of the band’s El Camino were up 18 percent last week to 10,000, according to the Hollywood Reporter . (The sales increases didn’t factor in until this week because the Movie Awards took place on Sunday, June 3 and the SoundScan reporting week ends at the close of business on Sunday.) The two songs they performed with Depp also saw some chart love, with “Gold on the Ceiling” up 30 percent and “Lonely Boy” taking a 19 percent hike up the charts. A spokesperson for the group’s label said that not only did the Depp cameo help lift sales of Camino , but the prominent spot on the show also created a “healthy” spike of the Key’s back catalog of singles and albums. Khalifa was no slouch, either, with his new single, “Work Hard, Play Hard,” selling 78,000 copies for a 37 percent increase over the previous week. It was a mix of news for fun., whose smash single, “We Are Young,” got the celebs in the crowd up on their feet singing and clapping along, even as sales dropped by 25 percent after a strong six-week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Even as the single dropped, sales of the band’s album, Some Nights , picked up by 33 percent to 18,000.
