Do homosexual black men have an advantage over straight black men? Black Gay Men’s Salaries Are Equal To Straight White Men Some have called the tension between different historically oppressed groups the “suffering Olympics,” as each group—from women to gay Americans to black Americans—believes they’ve had it worse. But new data raises a surprising question: Among black men, is it easier to be a dual minority—to be both black and gay? Via The Root reports: Conventional wisdom has been that no one has it tougher than racial minorities who are gay. One study found (pdf) that gay black teens are more likely to be homeless than gay teens from other racial groups. Other studies show that black men face a disadvantage in hiring. A notorious 2003 study (pdf) found that white men with a criminal record were more likely to be hired than black men without one. All of which make results of new research published by Princeton sociologist David Pedulla so surprising. He conducted a résumé test among hundreds of employers, supplying some résumés with names more likely to be stereotyped as those of white applicants, and others with names more likely to be identified as those of black applicants. On some résumés, Pedulla indicated that the applicant had participated in a Gay Student Advisory Council. Among all the fictional applicants, the one with the name that sounded like a black male (Darnell) who participated in the Gay Student Advisory Council was more likely to be considered for the same starting salary as that of a heterosexual white male. Those presumed to be white and gay and those presumed to be black and heterosexual were considered for lower salaries. So what does it all mean? Well, for starters, it means that our country has evolved. But also that it hasn’t, in many ways. It’s great to know that gay black men have found a place of acceptance in the world, particularly in the working world—something that would have been hard to imagine a generation ago. But the potential underlying reason they may have found that place is troubling nonetheless. Pedulla says, “There is some evidence that gay black men are perceived as less threatening than straight black men and that this difference accounts for a piece of the salary-recommendation difference between these two groups.” I didn’t need to read that sentence to see that coming. Fear of the sexual power and prowess of black men has been at the root of the most horrifying acts of racial violence against black Americans, from the lynching epidemic of the early 20th century to the torture of young Emmett Till for supposedly flirting with a white woman in 1955. In previous interviews with The Root, Mark Potok, one of the country’s leading experts on hate groups, described an unhealthy obsession among many hate-group leaders with interracial sex, specifically the idea of black men “defiling” white women. . I live in Canada so I am used to people on Welfare and figure it’s just part of life, but it always makes me laugh at how mad Americans, especially that rich get about people on Welfare, it’s a system that is in place, people use it, deal with it…but for some reason they find it so fucking offensive that people get 180 dollars in food stamps and they call it piggy backing on the tax dollars of the nation…like the host really thinks that this dude is stealing 5 cents out of his motherfucking pocket, instead of looking at how corrupt the actual government is, in terms of Salary the officials get, in terms of travel expenses, in terms of the government being a fucking scam… I also like how dude suggests he works at In and Out Burger, then follows up saying how much he likes In and Out burger, because he’s probably paid by in and out burger…when no one over the age of 16 wants to work at In and Out Burger… The whole thing seems like a SNL Skit, it’s funny on a lot of levels…watch.

Jason Kidd’s off-the-court antics have once again taken a chunk out of his salary. The Brooklyn Nets coach suspiciously spilled his drink at the tail end of November 27′s loss against the Los Angeles Lakers to delay the game , and it seems like the NBA isn’t buying his claims of innocence. They actually sent him a bill for $50,000 instead. Reports USA Today: The league said the fine was “for intentionally spilling a drink on the floor to delay the game.

The only thing that’s been Taken here is a bunch more money. Liam Neeson, who was initially having second thoughts about starring in Taken 3 is currently negotiating a $20 million contract to star in the third installment of the action franchise that essentially reinvented his career. The price tag marks a $5 million raise from his salary for the last film. The writers of the first two films, Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, are working on the new script, with Olivier Megaton possibly returning to direct. Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace have yet to sign on. Production is expected to begin in February 14.

Earlier today we reported that Lindsay Lohan was accused of stealing from the set of Anger Management . Now, she’s claiming that she didn’t steal, she bought! Lindsay Lohan, who was apparently a nightmare to work with during her guest spot on Anger Management, walked off with clothing and jewelry from the wardrobe department. Now the actress claims that she had made a deal to with the show’s producers that she could take whatever she wanted, and they would just deduct it from her salary. Even if that were true, what a strange deal. Where ever you go, you can just take stuff, and it’ll get figured out later? If us ‘normies’ acted like that, the economy would crumble. While Lohan told her friends that she did nothing wrong, sources from the show told TMZ that Lohan walked off with the goods before there was any discussion about it. The wardrobe person was put in an uncomfortable position, so just offered to deduct the items from Lohan’s salary. Who to believe? The crazed celeb with a history of addiction and reckless behavior? Or the wardrobe person on an FX show who’s just doing her job? Hmm…

Dark-skinned, light-skinned, Asian, and White women… Parks Department Workers Paid $165,000 Settlement For Racist Transfer Practices Via NYDailyNews The city will pay thousands of dollars to dark-skinned Parks Department workers who claim they were transferred out of tony Battery Park City in favor of white and light-skinned staffers amid threats and veiled complaints that they were too aggressive. The workers filed a discrimination suit after the March 2011 transfers — which came after months of escalating tensions between the mostly minority agents and some residents of the ritzy enclave. Racist signs and graffiti calling the Public Enforcement Patrol officers “thugs,” “pigs” and “n—–s” started popping up on benches and walls, according to the suit filed by 13 workers. The Parks Department wrongfully transferred eight dark-skinned workers out and brought in eight white, Asian or light-skinned Hispanics after the Battery Park City Authority — a private trust that pays the city $2 million for 31 PEP workers on its 32 acres — complained that some officers were too aggressive in ticketing residents, the suit charged. Residents of the waterfront neighborhood were pleased when PEP workers ticketed visitors — but annoyed when they got tickets for the same petty violations, said Charles St. Louis, a retired NYPD officer and PEP agent who is a plaintiff in the suit. What part of the game is THAT?! The city admitted no wrongdoing in the February agreement of $165,000 — $8,000 to each of the dark-skinned workers, plus the same payment to the replacement workers, who charged they were unwittingly put in the middle of a hostile situation. One black worker, George Parker, 62, will get a payment of $14,000 because a white resident went after him in a fury after another park worker questioned why his dog was off-leash. “I’ve been around a bit in my time, even Birmingham, Ala., and I’ve not seen much that was as bad as Battery Park City,” said Parker. “I got a lot of ‘I pay your salary’ and ‘You work for me’ when I tried to enforce the rules.” PEP worker Keshun Anderson, 40, said she was once called a “f—ing n—–” by the white resident who fought with Parker. According to The Huffington Post , this years session in Congress has been one of the most unproductive in more than 50 years: President Barack Obama gave a New Year’s gift to returning members of Congress, federal workers and Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, signing an executive order calling for an end to a years-long pay freeze. As of March 27, 2013, federal employees will see a half-percent to one percent pay increase, marking the end of a pay freeze that has been in place since late 2010. Congress hasn’t seen a pay raise since 2009. According to the order, Biden’s pay will increase from $225,521 to $231,900 a year, before taxes. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will see his salary increased to $224,500 and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will take home an annual pay of $194,400 after his raise. While Obama’s order made no mention of merit for such a raise, HuffPost’s Amanda Terkel reported on Friday that the 112th Congress is set to end the session as the most unproductive since the 1940s, with only 219 bills passed by the body becoming law. The raise won’t take place until the 113th Congress, meaning that outgoing members will see no effect from the order. Obama ordered the raise as he continues to negotiate unsuccessfully with congressional leaders to find a deal in order to avoid the fiscal cliff at the end of the year. WTF is going on two weeks before we make one of the biggest decisions this year?? First we had that chicken little loudmouthed prick Donald Trump flossin’ his “big news” all over twitter and news stations, and now attention slore Gloria Allred came out of the woodwork with her own “undercover” operation. We’re used to uncivilized elections in this country but dayum…can we please get through the final weeks before we make our own educated guess vote for who we want to run our country without these two fools diggin’ up more dirt on the candidates?!?!? According to TMZ , Allred’s mission to a Boston courthouse tomorrow has to do with a very high-profile court case that Mittens was involved in! Mitt Romney was heavily involved in the extremely messy divorce of one of his key supporters … and the Boston Globe is going to court first thing Wednesday morning in an attempt to unseal the court file as well as lift a gag order … TMZ has learned. The divorce was between Staples co-founder Tom Stemberg and his first wife Maureen. We’re told the divorce battle lasted for years and was extremely ugly. Sources tell us Romney gave both a deposition in the divorce and testified in the trial. According to our sources, the Boston Globe got a tip that there was “juicy information about Romney” in the sealed documents. Romney, Stemberg and Maureen were all served papers by the Globe notifying them that the paper was trying to unseal the case and lift the gag order enforced on all parties. According to an article in the Boston Globe in 2005, Maureen received nearly 500,000 shares of Staples stock in the divorce … but sold half her shares before the company went public. Our sources say Tom has filed papers opposing the Globe’s motion. Romney’s lawyers have not responded. Tom has been a major Romney supporter, even speaking for five minutes at the Republican National Convention.We’re told Gloria Allred represents someone connected with the divorce and we believe — though we have not confirmed it — that is Maureen. If the gag order is lifted, Maureen and others could freely talk about the divorce … less than two weeks before the election. We’re pretty sure Wddnesday is going to be a huge day in news.
