Saturday Night Live will soon have a new Oprah Winfrey. And Michelle Obama. And Condoleezza Rice. The iconic NBC sketch comedy series has responded to its lack-of-diversity criticism by hiring Sasheer Zamata. The comedian will debut on the January 18 episode of the program, which will be hosted by Drake . Zamata trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and will become SNL’s first African-American female since Maya Rudolph left five years ago. After hiring six new cast members prior to this season, none of whom were black, Lorne Michaels held auditions across the country last month for someone to fill this role. And Zamata – a graduate of the University of Virginia and someone who has appeared on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX, and Inside Amy Schumer – beat out stiff competition to land the part. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul made a cameo on Saturday Night Live last night in a season-opening faux press conference by President Barack Obama. On the eve of the Breaking Bad finale , and with Affordable Care Act health care exchanges set to open Tuesday, Paul made a heartfelt pitch for Obamacare. Or Jesse Pinkman did, we should say. Take a look (4:25): Aaron Paul on Saturday Night Live Paul, as his Emmy-winning character, described how a certain friend of his in New Mexico could have benefited from Obama’s signature legislation. Because there was no Obamacare, Jesse’s unnamed friend was forced to undergo drastic measures to pay for his treatment and provide for his family: Cooking massive amounts of meth and murdering people. Not just standard murders, either. He blew some guy’s face off and hit nine people in under two minutes. All because of his health care woes. Thank goodness Obamacare passed, right? Seriously. Aaron also appeared later on the SNL season premiere on Weekend Update, alongside another man who knows about addiction, Drunk Uncle … Aaron Paul on SNL Weekend Update Paul is flying back across the U.S. tonight for the series finale screening at Hollywood Forever cemetery in Hollywood. He will arrive in Walt and Jesse’s RV.

NBC has announced a few huge names that will grace the Saturday Night Live stage next month. On May 11, Kristen Wiig – who left the show in 2012 – will take over hosting duties, with Vampire Weekend serving as musical guest. Then, on the May 18 season finale, Ben Affleck will take the hosting reins and rapper/ Kim Kardashian Baby Daddy Kanye West will provide the tunes. Might a certain large-breasted reality star stop by for a cameo?!? We can only hope.
