Jenny Slate Is Lowered onto the SNL Chopping Block

Casting changes are apparently not yet complete for Saturday Night Live ‘s 36th season, alleges Deadline this morning. The cast member whose fate hangs in the balance is reportedly Jenny Slate, the Brooklyn comedian who was responsible for her Hoda Kotb impression, original Tina-Tina Cheneuse sketches and accidental use of an expletive during her first season. Second-generation cast member Abby Elliott is supposedly being asked to return for another season after her fate hung in “serious jeopardy.” [ Deadline ]

‘Going The Distance’ Co-Stars Think Romance And Bromance Can Coexist

Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis share their philosophy on male friendships. By Kara Warner Jason Sudeikis Photo: MTV News As a rule, romantic comedies generally follow a pretty standard formula: Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl’s relationship is put to the test by brief bit of drama (overprotective potential in-laws, nosy friends, etc.), boy and girl live happily ever after. It’s typical and predictable, but also why we love rom-coms! The latest entrant into the beloved genre is this week’s “Going the Distance,” starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long as a new couple who try to make their relationship work while living on opposite coasts. The film also features the comedic stylings of Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Jason Sudeikis (“Saturday Night Live”), who play a pair of buddies doing their best to keep their close friendship alive, while Long’s character tries to distance himself from his pals and make more time for his new romance. When MTV News caught up with the two funnymen at the film’s press day, we asked them to compare and contrast the complicated aspects of real-life guy friendship, a.k.a. bromance, and romance — and whether the two can exist at the same time. “Well, there’s a lot less sex in the bromance,” Day offered. “We’re bromancing each other, but we’re not bromancing each other in bed, so that’s different.” Sudeikis admitted that sometimes you need to put the bromance on the back burner. “At some point, you have to let your friend go and your romance will trump the bromance,” he said. “You have to let the little bird fly out of the nest.” “A romance and a bromance can happen at the same time — they’re not mutually exclusive,” Day added. “They can, they absolutely can. Sometimes people think that when the romance starts, the bromance ends, but that’s not true.” This comment prompted Sudeikis to theorize that it’s a bad sign if the guy friends in question have a problem with their friend’s new love interest. “If the bromance really has a negative reaction to the romance, it’s probably not a healthy romance,” he said. “There’s no reason a good romance can’t be perfectly bromantical,” Day added. “Yeah,” Sudeikis agreed. “Not all squares are rectangles.” “And not all rectangles are shapes,” Day said. There you have it, philosophies on love and bromance, courtesy of Sudeikis and Day. ‘Going The Distance’: The Reviews Are In!

‘E.T.’s girlfriend and the Mac Guy ooze a laid-back, goofy charm through their pore-less skin,’ The Washington Post ‘s Michael O’Sullivan writes. By Eric Ditzian Drew Barrymore in “Going the Distance” Photo: Warner Bros. I’ll go ahead and say it: I really liked “Going the Distance.” Frankly, I’m surprised more early viewers didn’t, as the Drew Barrymore comedy is currently at a meager 49 percent freshness at the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator. What else do we want in our romantic comedies, people? I’ll surely sound like a PR flack for saying this, but “Going the Distance” has something for everyone. It’s got the aw-shucks love story, realistically drawn central characters, some fabulously raunchy supporting players in Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Jason Sudeikis (“Saturday Night Live”), a plot that really does manage to avoid rom-com clich

Jason Sudeikis Helps Explain the Mad Men-Saturday Night Live Love Fest

Liz Lemon and Don Draper. Fred Armisen and Elisabeth Moss. Jason Sudeikis and January Jones. What’s going on with the casts of Saturday Night Live and Mad Men ? During an interview with Vanity Fair , Sudeikis describes the bizarre and growing connection thusly: “It’s just a mess. It’s like an orgy made in Entertainment Weekly heaven. What’s that old phrase? Something makes strange bedfellows? With our two casts, you could substitute the word ‘drinking.’ The SNL cast can party with the Mad Men cast in a mutual fashion.” Paging Kiernan Shipka . Taylor Swift’s Kanye West Recovery Uncovered On ‘VMAs: Revealed’

Find out how singer bounced back just in time for 2009 subway performance, in special airing Saturday at 11 a.m. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the 2009 Video Music Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic With one swift swipe of the mic, Kanye West went from just another tipsy rapper at an awards show to a pop-culture pariah at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards . Jaws dropped and boos were lobbed when Kanye infamously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video, leaving behind a shell-shocked teen country starlet. Swift composed herself and gracefully left the stage but the experience was apparently as hard for the Grammy-winner to take as it was for viewers to watch. And to pile on the pressure, Swift was set to pull off a complex performance of “You Belong With Me” involving scores of extras raging through a New York City subway station just minutes after the onstage debacle. In addition to her preternatural professionalism, Swift had a secret weapon to help her through the set: her fans. “The fans behind her were going crazy,” choreographer Danielle Flora recalls in the special “The VMAs: Revealed – Presented by New 5 React Gum,” which premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. Dancer Keltie Colleen agreed: “It was like they were her army.” Eventually, it all worked out.
