Joey Crawford Leads Game 7 Ref Crew

Filed under: Celtics , Lakers , NBA Playoffs , NBA Referees , NBA Finals The officials for tonight’s Celtics – Lakers NBA Finals Game 7 have been announced: Joey Crawford, Danny Crawford and Scott Foster. Joey Crawford was the lead official in Games 1 and 5 of the Finals, and he lived up to his reputation as the NBA ref least likely to suffer a fool: his crews doled out three technicals in each game. ( Rasheed Wallace , Paul Pierce and Ron Artest got nailed in Game 1. Derek Fisher , Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen earned them in Game 5.) Foster worked Game 4, when Wallace and Nate Robinson were each rung up on techs. Dan Crawford worked only Game 3 with Bill Kennedy and Bennett Salvatore in what was the series’ most controversial crew. L.A. won that game in Boston, with the Celtics racking up seven more personal fouls than the Lakers. No techs were handed out. Does the crew favor one team over the other? Joey Crawford’s lack of patience gives an ever-so-slight edge to the Lakers. But really, this is a good, solid crew. (As long as the Spurs or Mavericks aren’t involved.) Perhaps the most interesting note is that Foster is the current NBA ref most closely tied to the Tim Donaghy scandal. A media report back in 2008 uncovered that Donaghy had called Foster 134 times over a six-month span in the middle of Donaghy’s illegal betting spree. The NBA denied Foster was involved in the betting ring , the FBI reportedly found no evidence Foster did anything illegal and Foster went on as one of the NBA’s most oft-used referees.

World Cup 2010: Australia’s Tim Cahill gets one-match ban

• Socceroos midfielder had feared a two-match suspension • Everton player will only miss Ghana game on Saturday Tim Cahill has been reprieved to continue in the World Cup after Fifa decided to show him leniency for the red card that had threatened to end his tournament. Cahill was sent off for a challenge on Bastian Schweinsteiger during Australia’s 4-0 defeat to Germany in Durban on Sunday. The Everton player broke down in tears after the match, believing it would mean a two-match ban that would rule him out of the rest of Australia’s group matches. Instead Fifa’s disciplinary panel have decided the offence merited only a one-game suspension, meaning Cahill will be unavailable for the game against Ghana on Saturday but can play against Serbia next Wednesday. Bam Margera Assaulted By 59-Year-Old Woman

“Jackass” star was attacked with a baseball bat early Saturday morning. By Kyle Anderson Bam Margera Photo: Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images Throughout his unusual career, Bam Margera has taken all sorts of abuse to his head, arms, legs and testicles. But up until early Saturday morning (June 12), he had never been beaten with a bat wielded by a 59-year-old woman. Margera, the skateboarder and breakout star of “Jackass” and “Viva La Bam” on MTV, was assaulted early Saturday morning following a noise complaint at The Note, the bar that Margera owns in his hometown of West Chester, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Ray, who lives on the same block as the bar, attacked Margera with a bat at around 2 a.m. on Saturday. She was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. She posted $10,000 bail shortly after her arrest. Ray professed her innocence to the Philadelphia Daily News , claiming that Margera used racial slurs during their initial argument about the noise. “He called me the n-word,” she said. “I’m innocent, and he’s a jackass, just like his movies.” Margera’s mother April (who audiences got to know well on “Viva La Bam”) suggested that this wasn’t the first time her son had an altercation with Ray. “She hit him over the head with a baseball bat, and she hit him while he was walking to his car,” she said, though she was not actually a witness to the incident. “There was no fight. She’s just crazy and gives him a hard time all the time.” Margera was taken via ambulance to Chester County Hospital and treated for his injuries . “Jackass” co-star Steve-O told TMZ that Margera had been brought into the intensive care unit of the hospital and was released a few hours later. “I think he’s gonna be OK,” Steve-O told TMZ. Upon exiting the hospital, Margera hopped on a plane to meet with the rest of the cast of “Jackass 3-D,” which is scheduled to hit theaters this October.
