What The Hell?? Black Ohio Elementary School Student Asked To Play A Slave In Class Project

SMH: The mother of a black Ohio fifth grader assigned to play a slave for a social studies lesson says the school should be more sensitive. Principal Scott Schmidt of Chapelfield Elementary in Gahanna called Aneka Burton to apologize for what happened to her son, Nikko, on Wednesday. Columbus station WBNS-TV reports Schmidt said no harm was intended. Ten-year-old Nikko says the class was randomly divided into “masters” and “slaves” and that the only other black student got to be a master. Burton says her son refused to take part in a simulated slave auction and was sent back to his desk. Burton says she appreciates the apology, but the exercise was inappropriate. The school district said in a statement Thursday that officials acted promptly once the concern was raised. SMH x 2. Source

Seth Walsh, 13, Commits Suicide After Facing Anti-Gay Bullying

*********************** http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2010/09/gay-teen-dies-after-10-days-on-life-support-f… According to reports, Seth was openly gay and was taunted by bullies for years, at school and at a local park. He attended Jacobsen Middle School last year and for only two weeks this year, before being transferred to independent study — reportedly because he had been bullied relentlessly. But school officials at Tehachapi Union School District claim there have been no reports of bullying. A 13-year-old high school student Seth Walsh died after spending 10 days on life support after an attempt to take his life. ******************************************************************* According to the details, Seth Walsh was a resident of Tehachapi, California and was studying at Jacobsen Middle School. Seth Walsh was being bullied at the school for being gay. After months of bullying, Seth Walsh tried to take his own life by hanging himself from a tree branch. He was found unconscious and was not breathing. Seth Walsh was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was kept on life support for more than a week. On Tuesday afternoon, Seth Walsh took his last breaths. He is survived by his grandmother, mother, and three siblings. The police at the Tehachapi say that they cannot hold any child at the school responsible for the death of Seth Walsh as school bullying is not a crime. The school administration says that there are definitely policies inside the school which questions such activities and students are encouraged to get counseling. Seth Walsh’s family has requested for their privacy. Seth Walsh’s death follows the death of an 8th grader Asher Brown in Texas and Billy Lucas in Indiana. Like Seth Walsh, these two kids also committed suicide after becoming subject of relentless bullying and teasing at their schools. The family of Seth Walsh is holding a memorial service on Friday in Tehachapi First Baptist Church. Pro-gay organizations have taken notice the death of Seth Walsh and have requested others to talk and counsel other gay teenagers. added by: toyotabedzrock

Christians disrupt moment of silence at Exeter High School graduation

A moment of silence during a graduation ceremony for Exeter High School Friday night was interrupted with an outburst of prayer. During a planned moment of silence at the Exeter Union High School stadium, some spectators violated that silence, by reciting the Lord's Prayer. The unsolicited prayer at the Exeter High School graduation comes after some controversy. The issue of prayer at the Tulare County high school has been in the news of late. On Tuesday, the Exeter Union High School District Board voted 3 to 2 to ban prayer from Friday's graduation ceremony. The decision was made after three organizations sent the district letters, warning such prayers violate students' constitutional rights. http://www.examiner.com/x-10853-Portland-Humanist-Examiner~y2010m6d5-Christians-… added by: unimatrix0
