Abercrombie is an Atlanta native who graduated from Westlake High School in 2016 where he excelled both in the classroom and on the field. Abercrombie was injured during the first half of the game. He underwent emergency surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. Some progressive has been reported, however he remains in ICU, listed in critical condition. Close family friends and 2016/2017 Westlake Moms/Dads Group are organizing the vigil. M ore than two weeks have passed since a security guard killed an HBCU student for supposedly breaking into cars at an off-campus apartment complex parking lot in North Carolina. DeAndre Ballard, who was a senior at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, was shot the night of Sept. 17, but that was pretty much the only fact that was established as local law enforcement has kept quiet about most other details protesters have been demanded ever since. However, a local news reporter tweeted that the 911 call, or calls, were not being released, even though it’s fairly customary to release them to the public under such controversial circumstances. The organizer of the walkout, Jamie Lyn Riggin, said she wanted to increase awareness to the shooting that hasn’t seemed to register a blip on the national media radar. “We don’t stand for things like this to continue to happen,” Riggin reportedly told the group of students who participated in the walkout. “We have pride here as Eagles, and if we are gonna soar, we are gonna soar as one,” she said, referring to the NCCU mascot. The company that still employs the security guard who killed Ballard has defended the deadly shooting by repeating a familiar refrain heard after shootings by law enforcement. “We fully, 100 percent stand by his actions because this was self-defense,” Kevin Ladd, vice president of the N.C. Detective Agency, told the Herald Sun . “In our eyes this is a tragic accident. It never should have gotten to this, but our officer was fearful for his life.” Ballard’s friends and family were adamant that breaking into cars was “out of character” for the physical education major. Students on Monday also questioned how sincere NCCU’s response to Ballard’s shooting was, seemingly trying to distance itself from the incident instead of sympathizing and empathizing. “The university is not associated with and does not have any contractual agreement with Campus Crossings, an independently-owned residential apartment complex,” NCCU said in a statement released Sept. 27. “The NCCU police department officers have no jurisdiction or connection with the Campus Crossings apartment complex nor with the security officer involved in the incident. NCCU does not endorse or recommend any specific rental property for students. Additionally, the university does not utilize the security services of the N.C. Detective Agency and does not hire any officers employed with this particular agency.” Ballard’s killing came amid a spate of violence on or near HBCU campuses. A man was killed Friday near the campus of Southern Universty in Baton Rouge. One day earlier, a Morehouse College student was carjacked and robbed of his belongings near the school’s campus in Atlanta. Three Florida A&M University students had a gun pulled on them in an elevator at an off-campus apartment building in Tallahassee on Sept. 10. Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish join comedic forces in Will Packer and Malcolm D Lee’s riotous comedy Night School . Hart and Haddish may be top-billing in the date night flick, but Romany Malco’s character provides a refreshing take on the modern conspiracy theorist/ hotep. While promoting Night School, Hart and Haddish reacted the flat earth theory, revealed what it was like filming certain scenes and what Hart learned about lying to Black women. Photo by Eric Thayer/Getty Images The Texas Senator Faces Sexual Misconduct Allegations Another politician allegedly can’t keep their peen nestled in the privacy of their drawers. According to the American-Statesman , state Senator Charles Schwertner of Texas allegedly texted sexually explicit pics to a graduate student at The University of Texas. Schwertner reportedly met the student at an on-campus event this past summer. Schwertner is an alumni of UT and was invited to the event. According to two school officials with knowledge of the investigation, the student spoke with Schwertner saying she was interested in working in the Legislature. After the event, the two exchanged messages on LinkedIn before moving to text messages. Their messages were professional at first with the two discussing networking and career advice. But then, out of nowhere, Schwertner wrote, “I just really want to fu** you,” and he sent the student an image that appeared to be a pic of his genitals in the shower, according to a UT official who saw the exchange and the photo. The pic does not include Schwertner’s face. Did we mention, Schwertner has a wife and three kids. The student responded to Schwertner saying she thought he acted inappropriately, the officials said. Schwertner did not respond. The student then reported Schwertner’s actions to the school, which prompted an investigation. If the student’s allegations ring true, the university would consider banning Schwertner from campus says two officials. A third official said the university is also thinking about hiring outside legal counsel to investigate further. Through a spokesperson, Schwertner said he “categorically denies any knowledge of the accusations” and he intends to cooperate with UT’s investigation. Th UT officials will not reveal the identity of the student out of respect for her privacy and to honor their promise of confidentiality when she came forth. Student privacy laws also prohibit the university from sharing the student’s name. Meanwhile, Schwertner, a Republican, faces re-election on November 6. He will go up against Democrat runner Meg Walsh .
Natalie Suleman is the mother to 14 children. As you can imagine, she has even more trouble than most families when it comes to getting everyone together for a group photo. The results, however, can be pretty darn funny. Take a look at the photo of her minimalist family , and read the (former) Octomom’s explanation for the chaos. Sharing the photo that you’re about to see to Instagram, Natalie Suleman — who no longer uses the names Nadya or Octomom — offers an explanation. “So THIS is what happened when we attempted to take a fun family photo with as many family members as possible,” she writes. In the picture, she is seated with only 11 of her 14 children. “Per usual, Elijah, Amerah, and JJ are absent from the pic,” Suleman explains. She adds: “(growing up I despised taking photos so I understand and don’t force them).” There is a lot of chaotic energy in this photo. With some different arrangements and more dramatic lighting, you’d get a Baroque painting. “Aidan had enough of sitting and threw his head back,” she explains. The result, as you can see, is that his head flew back dramatically, “nearly hitting mine.” “So,” she writes. “This may explain why I look, ummm … startled.” She’s clearly not the only one. Hey, children don’t generally want to sit still for ages. This problem magifies exponentially when you add more children. She also shared this smaller but much less chaotic photo recently. This was from when she sent her octuplets back to school. Like countless other parents, celebrity and otherwise, she snapped and shared a back-to-school photo on social media. Unlike the vast majority of those other parents … she had a lot of children in the photo. But she fit them all into the frame anyway. She’s had a lot of practice, just as she did in this image when she was feeding them all vegan tacos. Even in this image, you can tell that they had to go out of their way to fit into the frame. It’s so reassuring to hear that Suleman gives her children the freedom to opt out of family photos if they want to. (If anyone else has ever been forced to wear a turtleneck for an hour at the age of four for a family photoshoot, and still feels indignation at that memory, you can appreciate her parenting choice) It’s also neat to see that most of her children are more than happy to pose for the photos. And when it’s only the eight of them, things tend to turn out pretty well. At least, they do in the photos that she chooses to upload. We’re sure that she has plenty of outtakes that fans and followers don’t normally get to see. You know what? It’s been years since Suleman stopped being Octomom , and we have to say that she seems to be doing well. We’re so sorry that she got so much negative feedback over supporting her family by stripping. There is nothing wrong with sex work, and she should never have been shamed for it. Sometimes, when people become famous, they just can’t handle it. Suleman is an example of that, but she seems to have adjusted to things. Her focus is on her fourteen children. The Dreamville rapper’s organization has announced their relief efforts for areas that were destroyed by Hurricane Florence. As one of the hardest hit towns by the natural disaster, the K.O.D. rapper has turned his sights to his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Cumberland County destination is still in shambles leaving hundreds to live in shelters. Reports estimate that Florence did more destruction there than Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Complex has confirmed that Cole’s Dreamville Foundation is providing recovery for those in need. In a Twitter post the non-profit made their plans known for the city. “NC has a special place in our hearts. The impact of Hurricane Florence has displaced families and caused unprecedented damage to Fayetteville. The Dreamville fdn.
