WSBTV reports that DeKalb County police are searching for an unidentified man who has robbed several Waffle Houses, two drugstores and a bank while wearing wigs. They add that he most recently passed a note to a Tucker Waffle House waitress demanding cash. The frightened waitress ran away and the robber left empty handed. It’s only mid-July, but all over the country, school districts are shortening breaks in favor of longer school years. And so, in some areas of the South (Where their summer breaks tend to start and end earlier.), it’s already back-to-school season. Most kids are probably pretty bummed about starting school in mid-July — but we’re guessing Kaiser Griffith and Maryssa Eason are pretty okay with it. Yes, it’s hard to believe he’s growing up so fast, but little Kaiser began kindergarten this week. Jenelle posted photos of Kai’s first day of kindergarten and Maryssa’s first day of 7th grade on her Instagram page this week. “#FirstDayOfSchool,” she captioned the pics. “These kiddos are getting so big, so fast!” Jenelle continued, adding the hashtags, “#BittersweetMoments #Motivated and #SchoolDays.” Some fans were taken aback that Jenelle’s kids start school so early in the summer. Others, of course, are still in shock that she was able to regain custody of Kaiser and Maryssa . Yes, as we’re sure you know, Evans lost custody of three of her kids following a CPS investigation back in May. The shocking decision to dismiss the case did not go over well on social media — which is no great surprise, what with the kids being returned to a home with a psychopath who’s known to shoot and kill beloved pets during his infamous temper tantrums. Jenelle’s comments section is a curated space these days, with the disgraced former reality star devoting a lot of time to deleting negative comments. But clearly, she didn’t catch them all — or consider the fact that folks on other social media platforms can still discuss her pics with impunity. “Ummm I thought you coparented with everyone fine? Where is his Father & WTF kind of school/parents would let this guy around their kids?” asked Twitter user @anon_mafioso, remarking on Nathan Griffith’s absence from the photos “You should be thankful you even get to see those kids,” Instagrammer shesworthwords commented. That one pretty much sums up the general feeling toward Jenelle getting her children back. She made it clear from the start that she considers herself the victim of an appalling injustice and feels that her kids were taken from her as the result of a smear campaign coordinated by the media and her family. This, obviously, is batsh-t thinking, but it’s what we’ve come to expect from Jenelle. We just hope that she occasionally takes some time out from her self-pity to consider the fact that is indeed quite lucky to have her kids returned to her — and she should do everything in her power to provide a safe and stable environment for them, so that they need not be uprooted again. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution , a group of Atlanta scholars took home the title at an annual debate competition hosted by the Harvard Debate Council. In preparation for the debate the team—who is predominately made up of students of color—participated in a two-week summer program focused on public speaking, competitive debating and political science. After the workshops the students ended their experience with a program tournament; competing against over 400 scholars from around the globe. The students were placed on teams of two. High schoolers Keith Harris and Don Roman Jr. went undefeated in the tournament. “It sends a message to the world to what African American youth are capable of, if they are given access and opportunities,” Brandon P. Fleming , founder of the Harvard Diversity Project. “Most of our students have never been exposed to the power of academic debate. Knowing that they will compete against hundreds of scholars who have years of debate experience, combined with the benefit of private and prep schools to their advantage, we seek to level the playing field by introducing our students to higher level academic disciplines that are typically unavailable in traditional school settings.” Both Harris and Roman were excited to take home the title. They both hope that their win will inspire other Black students to join debate teams. “Our accomplishment is far bigger than us. We are showing the world what black youths are capable of achieving when given equal access, exposure, and opportunities. This win is for our ancestors, our city, and most of all our culture,” Roman told the news outlet. Program organizers are now gearing up for the 2020 residency. A Texas-based historically Black college is ensuring that all of its students have the support and resources needed to overcome trauma developed from past experiences. According to Dallas News , Paul Quinn College has launched a mental health campaign to help students address internal obstacles so they can thrive academically. With the help of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, they discovered that the core of the problem was trauma and many of the students were suffering from PTSD. Students were carrying the emotional burdens of tragic past experiences from their upbringings and environments and some were carrying the weight of being first-generation college students on their shoulders. “We thought we were doing good,” said Paul Quinn College president Michael Sorrell . “‘We’re bringing you out of that environment and you’ll be safe. And life will be great.’ … It took us a while to understand that that was a product of trauma.” With a grant given to the school by Gov. Greg Abbott , the institution has been able to launch several programs and initiatives under its campaign. Incoming freshman and transfer students have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a counselor and the school has an on-campus mental health center which is overseen by Dr. Stacia’ Alexander . The center is decorated with images of celebrities who have been transparent about their struggles with mental health so that the students can see themselves reflected. “The thing we’re trying to get students to understand is that those traumas are real,” Dr. Alexander told the news outlet. “And they do impair or affect how you process daily information. And if you continue to ignore that, you’re going to continue to be impaired and not reach your full potential.” In addition to the counseling, there are several wellness and fitness activities that take place on campus. Still, when I sat down with him and Jake Gyllenhaal for their new film Spider-Man Far From Home he wasn’t with my games at first although he eventually came around and gave us a couple of “Spoilers Without Context.” In Spider-Man Far From Home we get to see Nick Fury attempt to bring Peter Parker from a neighborhood friendly Spider-Man to essentially the next Iron Man. A big deal considering that Peter just wants to go on his school trip and tell the girl he loves that he loves her like a fat kid love cake. Sam admits that when people see this movie that will likely say they didn’t know Nick Fury was such a grumpy old man, “I never knew Nick Fury was such a grumpy old man. Grow up, Kid! ‘We need you.’ Tony Starks told me this kid was the goods I get there, dude’s ghosting me. I’m talking to him and he’s talking to me about hanging out with his friends on this trip. No dude you can’t be the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, we need you to be somebody so grow up cat.” We also get to hear from Jake Gyllenhaal who was defending Nick Fury’s actions even though Spider-Man wanted some time off. Source: fstop123 / Getty An Ohio Gym Teacher Has Been Charged With Molesting 28 First Graders According to People , an Ohio gym teacher is accused of sexually abusing 28 first-grade girls. John Austin Hopkins was reportedly charged with 36 counts of gross sexual imposition with 28 first-grade girls by a grand jury. The case began after a concerned father met with the principal at Clearcreek Elementary School after expressing concern when his daughter told him that she “got to sit on Mr. Hopkins lap.” So school administrators checked the footage from the gym’s security cameras and allegedly saw the girl sitting on Hopkins’ lap, confirming the parents concerns. John Austin Hopkins was immediately removed from the classroom and turned it over to the Springboro Police Department and a full investigation began prompting authorities to study security camera footage dating back to December 2018. In the video, Hopkins was allegedly seen putting his hands up the shirts and skirts of the girls. The grand jury was presented with incidences of alleged inappropriate touching of 88 different first grade girls. They decided to indict 36 counts of gross sexual imposition related to 28 different girls. The 36 sexual misconduct charges are all third-degree felonies, which each carry a 5-year maximum prison sentence.
