‘It’s not the right time,’ singer tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Fergie Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Fergie has been lying low since the Black Eyed Peas announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus back in November. Yet on Wednesday, the Internet was abuzz with rumors that she might fill Paula Abdul or Nicole Scherzinger ‘s “X Factor” judging seats. But that’s all news to Fergie herself. “I have no idea how this keeps coming back, it’s crazy!” she told MTV News on Thursday (March 22) at the Voli Light Vodka Brunch in New York. “I know that my managers and agents have been in touch with the ‘X Factor’ both last season and this season, but both times it’s not the right time.” In April 2010, Fergie was mentioned as a potential judge , but much like this time around, she felt she couldn’t give the contestants the commitment they would need from a mentor. “I can’t commit all the energy that these contestants deserve,” Fergie said. “This is their career, and right now, I’ve got different plants in my garden that are going on, and that’s a really big tree that would take a lot of nurturing and energy. It’s just not the right time right now.” It might not be the right time for Fergie, but it could be the right time for Britney Spears. The pop star was reportedly offered $10 million to join Simon Cowell and L.A Reid on the judging panel. So does Fergie think Spears would be a good fit? “I think whatever they do … Simon’s a genius and he’ll make the right decision,” Fergie said. “And it will all work out.” Even though Fergie won’t be mentoring this season’s “X Factor” contestants, that doesn’t mean she won’t be tuning in. “I love Simon and I’ll be watching the show,” Fergie said. “I’m excited to watch — but at home in my pajamas.” Do you think Fergie would make a good “X Factor” mentor? Jaleel White and Katherine Jenkins tie for first place, with telenovela star William Levy not far behind. By Kelley L. Carter Kym Johnson and Jaleel White on “Dancing with the Stars” Photo: ABC A reformed nerd. A music legend. A TV host. A Super Bowl champion. All in one room together. That could only mean one thing: ABC’s hit competition series “Dancing With the Stars” is back. The reality show that puts a cornucopia of past and present celebrities on a ballroom dance floor to test their dance moves is back for another season, and during Monday night’s (March 19) premiere, we got to see famous tailfeathers a-shaking. The celebrities will come back and dance one more time next week before the cutting begins. Overall, the judges thought this was the best opener of any of their seasons. Here’s how the season 14 celebs fared: Maria Menounos and Derek Hough In their first rehearsal, the TV journalist set the stage for how we might see her grow this season, telling her partner, three-time champ Hough: “I’m like a dude, but I have boobs. I’m not dainty-like. I want to wrestle. Let’s fight!” They danced the cha-cha their first time out, and the judges thought her timing was good but that she needed to work on overall execution. “Nothing can prepare you for the first dance. But until you come onto this floor for the first time, you’re never sure how you’ll cope. Overall, I thought you coped very, very well. Great start to the show. Well done,” said head judge Len Goodman. 21/30 Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya He might be a soap-0opera bad boy, but on the dance floor, he was more animated than brooding. The judges thought he could dance and that his foxtrot had a lightness about it. What he needs to work on? His footwork. “Beautifully acted, beautifully danced. I loved the way you extend your moves. Week one! What are you going to do week two?” said Bruno Tonioli. 23/30 Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd Football players — and athletes in general — typically have a good run during this competition. Driver’s athleticism (and gridiron moves) look to serve him well. The judges thought his cha-cha was a crowd-pleaser. “You are nothing but charisma and charm for days! You kicked that cha-cha’s booty!” said Carrie Ann Inaba. 21/30 Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff The pop singer said he agreed to do the show because he wanted to get out from behind the piano during his shows. He’s certainly paired up with the right partner; Smirnoff is the defending champ from last season. The judges thought his foxtrot wasn’t the best first showing, even though they found it to have a gentle quality to it. “You coped well with a difficult dance. I liked the routine. I thought it flowed. The foxtrot is a romantic sort of dance, and you were a little bit stiff,” Goodman said. 20/30 Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower There’s always a Disney star in the mix, and the young guns tend to go far. For their first dance, they did the cha-cha, something Fegan’s professional partner thought might pair well with his natural style, considering he’s a freestyle hip-hop dancer. The judges thought Fegan and Hightower had the coolest spin they’ve seen in all 14 seasons. “You, Roshon, can go on and on and on, I’m telling you! Laser-sharp. Never too early. You split it in the middle. It was unbelievable!” Tonioli said. 23/30 Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy For their first dance, they did the fox trot, and the “View” co-host was concerned because she said she doesn’t do elegance very well. Should she last, it’ll be something she’ll spend much of the season working on, she said. The judges said she brought the joy of dance into her routine. They also said she moved very well. “You are the happiest contestant we’ve had ever in all of the 14 seasons of ‘Dancing With the Stars’! You had so much joy. Nice job,” Inaba said. 23/30 Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy She’s on the prairie no more! This former child actress — we loved her as Laura on “Little House on the Prairie” — danced the cha-cha for her first dance, and the judges thought she coped very well with a difficult dance and found her performance inspiring. “I would like to have seen a little more shape in your free arm and a little more hip action. But I thought it was a very ambitious routine,” Goodman said. 20/30 William Levy and Cheryl Burke They call this telenovela star the Mexican Brad Pitt, but after being in front of a North American audience, the easy-money guess is that Levy, who’s actually Cuban, will be able to stand on his own name. The judges thought his first dance, the cha-cha, was incredible. They thought he captured the spirit of the dance and praised his hotness. “The hottest package of the season! The nation is wild about Levy!” Tonioli screamed. 24/30 Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovoloni The tennis legend is a breast cancer survivor and she’s paired up with Dovoloni, one of the show’s favorite professional dancers. Their first dance was the fox trot, and the judges said the most decorated tennis player was beautiful, elegant and refined on the court. “I love strong women, but it’s so beautiful to see this transformation. I want you to work on your turns for future weeks,” Inaba said. 20/30 Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas The Welsh opera singer hopes that just because she’s a new face to North America, that won’t count her out. She sang on “DWTS” last year, and now she’s back to test her dancing skills. Her first dance was the foxtrot, and the judges said her performance was exquisite and the style was impeccable. They also said she set the bar very high. “I thought you had wonderful musicality. I liked the detail that went on throughout the dance,” Goodman said. 26/30 Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus The Grammy winner joked that the Pips never let her dance. She’s hoping to make like a Pip this season and get her groove on. For her first dance, she took on the cha-cha, and the judges (not to mention the crowd) thought she was outstanding. The judges said there was a naturalness about her dances and that she oozed rhythm. “The legend has got the moves! You’ve got class, you’ve got sass and you are a star. A real one! Absolutely!” Tonioli said. 23/30 Jaleel White and Kym Johnson White will always be our favorite, awkward nerd — he played Steve Urkel on the hit show “Family Matters” — but he’s hoping to discover how coordinated he is in real life. His first dance was the foxtrot, and the judges didn’t think he was a goofball at all. Tonioli said he thought he was watching Gregory Hines dance. “Jaleel, you are the icing on the cake. Smooth, smooth, super smooth,” Inaba said. 26/30 Who was your favorite celeb on the first episode of “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments!
‘Things will definitely be a little different’ when pregnant Snooki and crew shoot season six this summer, an MTV rep confirms. By Jocelyn Vena The cast of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV Snooki promised at the end of the latest season of “Jersey Shore” that she’d be back for more Seaside Heights, New Jersey, shenanigans, and she wasn’t lying. MTV News has confirmed that there will be another season of the “Shore” — with mom-to-be Snooki joining her pals. Although further details about season six of the hit MTV reality show have yet to be released — though we do know “Shore” will tape this summer — the network released a statement hinting that there will be new themes to explore. “While things will definitely be a little different this time when they hit the boardwalk, their trademark hilarity and family dysfunction will remain the same,” an MTV rep teased. A pregnant Snooki and JWoww are in the midst of filming their own spin-off, while DJ Pauly D’s spin-off, “The Pauly D Project,” will premiere on March 29. But the crew will reconvene for another summer in the sun in Jersey. When MTV News caught up with Pauly D recently, he seemed excited to shoot another season that made him and his housemates household names. “Absolutely! I’m there! I love summers on the Jersey Shore,” he said. “I love it as a show, and I love it with my roommates. I wouldn’t do it without [them], I gotta do it with them. I want all of them [there] and I want the Jersey Shore.” Looking back on season five, Pauly said that if the cast had learned anything, it was how much they loved the Shore after a season spent abroad in Italy. “This season, we kind of appreciated Jersey more,” he said. “So we took advantage of it and everything it has to offer. We were in Italy for so long [last season] that we never were away from the country for that amount of time, so you realize how much you miss gym, tan, laundry. There was no tanning beds in Italy.” For continuing “Jersey Shore” coverage, be sure to check in with MTV’s Remote Control blog.

ABC certainly didn’t have trouble coming up with a narrative this season. With the season finale of The Bachelor on tap tomorrow night, all of America is on pins and needles awaiting the conclusion of an epic morality play. The Bachelor spoilers have been right all season. Will they be on point Monday as the Black Widow does battle with all that is right with the world? Maybe that’s a bit over the top … but this promo blatantly uses “Good vs. Courtney” as a tagline for the conclusion of this controversial season: The Bachelor Season Finale Promo: Good vs. Courtney! As for what’s allegedly happened since The Bachelor season finale, the rumor mill has been working overtime. Reports of trouble in paradise abound. We won’t say whether Lindzi Cox (good, according to 80+ percent of viewers, and ABC’s promo) or Courtney Robertson (evil) got the final rose. Most people have a pretty good idea where Ben’s head is at, though, so follow the jump for the latest report on his current relationship status … Seriously, quit reading now if you want to remain in the dark: Okay. Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson, who allegedly get engaged on the finale, revealed they briefly split in February … but are back together. When they taped The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special (airing after the finale) in Los Angeles on March 4, Ben said he dumped her “abruptly.” That allegedly took place on February 7, according to Us Weekly , but the pair reconciled later that month “just as” he was allegedly caught cheating . The Us report was unclear whether Ben and Court reconciled “just as” the photos were taken, or when they were subsequently reported February 29. However, during the special, Flajnik swore on his deceased father’s grave that the three women he was seen canoodling with were his “old friends.” Even though Us says they met this month. “I had days where I stayed in bed and cried,” Robertson reportedly said, explaining that Flajnik didn’t even return her calls during the break-up period. “I was thinking he could at least send carnations [for Valentine’s Day].” It’s been a rough couple of weeks for these two. While the couple eventually reunited, Robertson reportedly told Chris Harrison she doesn’t believe she will be able to “completely” trust Flajnik again. During the After the Final Rose filming, Flajnik also reportedly admitted Robertson’s wedding dress shopping was a stunt to divert attention from him. “Once she saw the [ Us ] photos, she wanted to… shift the focus,” Flajnik told Harrison. “What better way than to go shopping for wedding dresses?” According to Us , the After the final Rose special concludes with Flajnik giving Robertson a new engagement ring. What was wrong with the Neil Lane? Nothing. But The Bachelor producers made her return the free ring that Flajnik proposed with during the finale after learning of the couple’s split. “I’m going to be there for you forever,” said Flajnik, who reportedly claimed to have purchased the new ring himself … you may vomit on cue. Again, we won’t know if any of this is actually true until tomorrow night, when it all unfolds on ABC. But it seems like a believable sequence of events.

‘He’s a bit of a wiseass, and he thinks he’s above them all,’ Neal McDonough tells MTV News about playing the bleach-blond big bad on the show. By Josh Wigler Neal McDonough on “Justified” Photo: FX ” Justified ” lawman Raylan Givens has faced no shortage of memorable nemeses in his days as a Lexington, Kentucky-based U.S. marshal: hoodlums with “four kidneys,” an “apple pie”-brewing and weed-slinging mama crime boss, not to mention the born again and born again and born again Boyd Crowder. But Robert Quarles? In a sea of backwoods Kentucky killers and thieves, this bleach-blond mobster may very well take the cake. Television veteran and “Captain America” actor Neal McDonough has graced the FX drama “Justified” with his formidable presence for the show’s currently airing third season, and viewers are better off for it — even if deputy Givens, the modern-day cowboy played by lead actor and producer Timothy Olyphant , is ruing the day that McDonough’s Quarles first set foot in Harlan County. “It’s like two great chess players in the same room,” McDonough told MTV News about this season’s ongoing battle between Quarles and Givens. “We both learn about each other. We’ve done our background checks on each other. So we both know we’re worthy opponents — but when we get in front of each other, it’s pretty awesome, because we’re on the opposite sides of the spectrum, but there’s a respect level for what each of us does. We’re both really good at what we do. But there’s also that ultimate disrespect from both of us: ‘Don’t think you’re going to beat me. I’ll let you dance with me for a while, but I’m going to crush you.’ ” Quarles has already dished out some crushing blows. In just eight episodes, the Detroit mobster has dropped by Raylan’s home unannounced, executed the deputy’s ex-wife’s ex-husband (it’s complicated), framed Raylan for the murder and set him up as a dirty cop. None of that mentions Quarles’ other atrocities, such as fatally shooting a businessman and his secretary mainly to prove a point, as well as brutally torturing a prisoner while simultaneously fielding a phone call from his very young son. What kind of monster can commit such crimes, you ask? According to McDonough, a very funny one. “He has a bit of a sense of humor,” said McDonough, who has played other villains with significantly fewer wisecracks to their names, including those in “Walking Tall” and “Street Fighter.” “This one, Quarles, his tongue is firmly in cheek in a lot of scenes. He’s a bit of a wiseass, and he thinks he’s above them all. To play that, and then have him unravel, trying to keep that veneer up, is what makes it really fun for me to play.” Indeed, the walls are closing in on Quarles. Raylan Givens is not his only obstacle: Quarles is now completely cut off from the Detroit crime syndicate he once worked for, and is starting to abuse the illicit pain pills he’s been pushing in Harlan County. “He’s a lot like me in a lot of ways: a businessman, but family first,” McDonough said of his character. “But Quarles gets addicted not just to the rush of power, but worse, to OxyContin. We all know how bad that gets when you’re hooked on junk like that.” Just how bad will Quarles’ addiction get? The actor teased, “The only thing I’ve asked of [‘Justified’ executive producer and show-runner] Graham Yost is that by episode 10 or 11, I’d like to be naked and hopped up on my own stuff. He goes, ‘Already thought of that, trust me!’ ” “Justified” marks the third collaboration between McDonough and Yost, having previously worked together on “Boomtown” and “Band of Brothers.” In fact, Quarles was written specifically with McDonough in mind, said the actor, who added that he would happily work with Yost on any project, anytime, anywhere. “If Graham Yost called me and said, ‘I have a three-minute infomercial to shoot in Bulgaria, are you in?’ I’d say, ‘Yes, what time is the flight?’ ” he said. “Graham tells me what to do and I do it. He gives me the juiciest stuff I can imagine as an actor.” The juicy stuff isn’t always cruel and unusual, either. McDonough teased an upcoming scene that shows a “beautifully altruistic” side of Quarles that he described as one of his top moments of the season. “There’s one scene in particular where a young boy comes into my trailer threatening to kill me,” said McDonough. “How I disarm him, not just physically but emotionally … it was maybe my favorite scene of the year. It’s just simple, emotional, truthful acting. Graham lobbed it in the air for me and I hit it out of the ballyard for him.” In short, to say that Quarles is an astounding addition to the “Justified” rogues’ gallery would be a tremendous understatement — and given where the character is headed in the back half of season three, it appears that we haven’t seen anything yet. “The first half of the season was great,” McDonough said. “But the second half … the second half is money. It’s fantastic for me as an actor.” Freshly renewed for a fourth season, “Justified” airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
‘I love it as a show, and I love it with my roommates,’ Pauly D tells MTV News, holding out hope for another season. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Pauly D Photo: Ian Spanier As the latest season of “Jersey Shore” wraps up next week, fans are wondering if the crew will head back to Seaside Heights, New Jersey, to bring their brand of fun to the famed locale. Well, for now, anything is possible. An MTV rep told MTV News in a statement, “No decision has been made yet on a sixth season of ‘Jersey Shore.’ ” One person who would definitely be onboard for another season is DJ Pauly D. “Absolutely! I’m there! I love summers on the Jersey Shore,” he told MTV News. “I love it as a show, and I love it with my roommates. I wouldn’t do it without [them]. I gotta do it with them. I want all of them, and I want the Jersey Shore.” Well, whatever the fate of “Jersey Shore” is, Pauly D is gearing up for his spin-off, “The Pauly D Project,” which kicks off March 29, the same night the brand-new season of “Punk’d” premieres. The show will follow Pauly’s life as a world-renowned DJ. And with celebrity pals like 50 Cent ( Pauly is signed to 50’s G-Note Records ) and Britney Spears (whom he toured with last year ) as cameo possibilities when the show kicks off, fans will get a real inside look at Pauly’s whirlwind life. “It’ll be probably along the lines of, I used to be this DJ in Rhode Island, DJing two sets a week, hustling, promoting,” Pauly explained to MTV News last year. “And all of a sudden, I’m on this show, and now they’re sending private jets for me to DJ for these huge crowds, yet I’m still the same guy that was DJing for 200 people, just loving life.” Snooki and JWoww are also currently filming their own spin-off, which will likely include Snooki’s next life chapter: She recently confirmed that she is pregnant and engaged to Jionni LaValle. Are you hoping for a sixth season of “Jersey Shore”? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.
