Guns N’ Roses Announce Six U.S. Tour Dates

Axl Rose and company to revisit NYC venue where they performed their ‘Live at the Ritz’ concerts 24 years ago. By Andrea Duncan-Mao Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose Photo: Evan Agostini/Getty Images All that’s old is new again. Axl Rose and his revamped Guns N’ Roses will revisit their beloved New York when they launch their Northeast tour in February. In 2011, the band completed a sold-out international tour and will kick off 2012 with a series of intimate shows in the States, starting with New York. Beginning February 10, they will perform a three-show series in the city, the cornerstone of which will be at the club Webster Hall, which was originally called the Ritz. This is where GN’R played one of their most famous concerts, “Live at the Ritz,” in 1998. For their return, the venue will revert to its original name, complete with new signage and marquee, and fans can wax nostalgic about the days when Guns were the biggest band on the planet. Additional cities include Chicago; Silver Spring, Maryland; and Atlantic City, New Jersey. No word yet if more dates will be announced. The stark difference this time around is that the original members of the group — namely Duff McKagan, Slash and Izzy Stradlin — will not be there. Axl remains the only original member in this latest incarnation of GN’R, and the latest crew has yet to release a new album. The last Guns N’ Roses release was back in 2008 with Chinese Democracy. McKagan currently lives in Seattle and has had success with his bands Velvet Revolver and Loaded, while the top-hat-wearing Slash, who was also in Velvet Revolver, has guested on tracks from Michael Jackson and Rihanna and is a major figure in the “Guitar Hero” video games. In Memoriam: Nate Dogg, Heavy D Among Stars We Lost In 2011

MTV News remembers ‘Jackass’ daredevil Ryan Dunn, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr and Cali Swag District’s M-Bone, among others. By Tami Katzoff Nate Dogg Photo: Mark Sullivan/ WireImage This year we lost some of our brightest stars: artists that spanned the genres of rock, hip-hop and pop, as well as TV and film. They were at different stages in their careers — some just starting to rise, others already legends — but all left a distinct mark on pop culture, and their deaths affected us deeply. Beloved hip-hop icons Nate Dogg and Heavy D influenced the generations of artists who followed them. Nate (born Nathaniel Hale) died at age 41 after suffering several health setbacks related to a stroke. One of the key players in the birth of the West Coast G-Funk sound, the crooner’s silky smooth vocals touched classic tracks from Snoop Dogg and Warren G to 50 Cent and Ludacris. Fun-loving Heavy D, a major force in the New Jack Swing era, had hits with songs like “We Found Love” and “Nuttin’ But Love,” but he had also branched out into film and theater. He was 44 when he died this past fall. Photos: The celebrities gone too soon in 2011. We lost Mike Starr , former bassist for the groundbreaking Seattle grunge band Alice in Chains. Like Amy Winehouse, who also died this year at the age of 27, Starr’s talent was often overshadowed by dependency on alcohol and drugs. Gun violence claimed the life of 22-year-old Montae Talbert, the Cali Swag District dancer otherwise known as M-Bone . And Australian actor Andy Whitfield , who got his big break when he was cast as the lead in the Starz TV series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” was 39 when he succumbed to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Finally, the MTV family mourned the death of “Jackass” daredevil and “Viva La Bam” star Ryan Dunn . The 34-year-old died on a rural Pennsylvania road along with his 30-year-old passenger, Zachary Hartwell, when their car slammed into a guardrail and caught fire. Coldplay Announce 2012 North American Tour

Band will kick off Mylo Xyloto tour on April 17. By Gil Kaufman Chris Martin Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images They’ve teased us all year with spot festival dates, but beginning April 17 Coldplay will launch their first proper North American tour in three years when they hit the stage in Edmonton, Alberta to promote their latest, Mylo Xyloto . With three Grammy nominations under their belt — two for “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” and one for “Paradise” — the band will be on the road from April through August in the U.S. and Canada, currently slated to wrap things up at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 11. Before they pack up their road cases, they will drop the third single from the album, “Charlie Brown,” which goes to radio later this month. They will also appear on the first-ever 90-minute episode of the world’s longest-running live music TV series, “Austin City Limits” .
They’ll ring in the new year on the program, which will air on PBS station nationwide on December 31 beginning at 11 p.m. “Coldplay New Year’s Eve: An Austin City Limits Special” can also be viewed on demand on www.pbs.org starting at 11 p.m. ET that evening. If you didn’t get a chance to catch any of Coldplay’s festival appearances earlier this year, singer Chris Martin promises that the new Xyloto songs will fit in with their soaring catalog, but might also feel a bit … different. “It’s definitely a schizophrenic album … it keeps changing sounds,” he told MTV News. “That’s why we called it such a strange thing, Mylo Xyloto . Because we felt like so many people have already made up their minds about us, both good and bad, that we can sort of start again from scratch and try and reflect all the music we listen to and we love.” And while you may not see album guest Rihanna hop up on stage with the band during the outing to sing “Princess of China”
, there’s a shot you might see them do their take on her current hit, “We Found Love,” which they covered on BBC Radio 1
recently. REVIEW: Woody Harrelson’s Menace Yields Diminishing Returns in Rampart

The last few weeks have provided us with some iconic imagery of police violence in response to the Occupy Wall Street movement — Lt. John Pike casually pepper spraying a group of UC Davis students like he’s Febrezing a sofa, 84-year-old Dorli Rainey being helped away from a confrontation in Seattle after being doused herself, Marine Scott Olsen getting carried out through a haze of tear gas in Oakland with a fractured skull. These recent events lend Oren Moverman’s Rampart a queasy immediacy even though it’s set in the ’90s, as the LAPD’ s Rampart Division struggles through the notorious police misconduct scandal that ended up implicating dozens of officers and inspired the likes of Training Day and The Shield .

Greg Halman, Seattle Mariners Player, Stabbed to Death

Greg Halman, a Dutch baseball player with the MLB’s Seattle Mariners in 2010 and 2011, was stabbed to death in his native country of The Netherlands today. His brother has been arrested in connection with the crime, according to reports. “A 24-year-old was killed this morning in a stabbing and authorities have arrested the 22-year-old brother of the victim,” a Rotterdam police spokesman said. News organizations later identified the deceased as Greg Halman. Of the brother, a police spokesman told the AP: “He is under arrest and right now he is being questioned. It will take some time to figure out what exactly happened.” Police found Greg Halman bleeding from a stab wound at a home in Rotterdam after responding to a call early today. They were unable to revive the baseball player. Halman hit .230 for the Mariners in 2011, with two home runs and six RBI. The outfielder appeared in 44 career games with the club in a reserve role. Kelly Clarkson Announces Stronger Tour Dates

Singer will hit the road with opener Matt Nathanson in January. By Gil Kaufman Kelly Clarkson Photo: MTV News Kelly Clarkson won’t have much time to nurse her New Year’s Eve hangover, as she’s slated to hit the road in early January for the first North American leg of her world tour in support of Stronger. The trek will kick off on January 13 with a show in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and is currently slated to run through an April 10 date at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. Clarkson — whose fifth album recently landed a #2 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart — will be joined by singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson on the outing. Though she came in behind Coldplay during her first week in stores, Clarkson was more than happy to square off against the British group for chart supremacy. “My album came out this week, Coldplay came out at the same time, and people were like, ‘Oh my God, are you kidding? Coldplay is going to kill you!’ I don’t care if they kill me,” Clarkson told MTV News of the rock band, whose Mylo Xyloto topped the charts with 447,000 copies sold. “It’s more like, how many people are going to buy their album, and then my album is right there, ’cause it’s out too,” she said. “I always think competition is healthy.” She’s not sweating it, since Clarkson has already said that she feels Stronger is her best album to date. She’s now getting ready to drop the second single off the LP, “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger).” “I think we might be going with ‘Stronger,’ the title track,” Clarkson said. “It’s just a great song, so I think we might go with that one.” As a bonus, Clarkson also expects that the song will be a blast to play in concert. ” ‘What Doesn’t Kill You,’ I can’t wait to perform that live,” said the singer. “We’ve already rehearsed it, and it’s so much fun. It’s like this big dance anthem.” Tickets for the tour will go on sale November 18. Dates for Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger tour:
