Katy Perry Lampoons ‘Sesame Street’ Flap On ‘Saturday Night Live’

Singer pokes fun at drama playing a developed teen in ‘Bronx Beat’ sketch. By Mawuse Ziegbe Katy Perry performs on ‘SNL’ Sept. 25 Photo: NBC The 36th season of “Saturday Night Live” kicked off by spotlighting a bunch of familiar faces, introducing some new ones and, of course, putting a comic stamp on the latest pop-culture controversies. The show’s signature opening monologue, this time delivered by “Parks and Recreation” star and “SNL” alum Amy Poehler, featured a trippy dream sequence in which the comedienne stressed about pulling off a successful host stint. The sketch was packed with blasts from the show’s past including Rachel Dratch, who gets hauled off by a polar bear, and ex-“Weekend Update” anchors Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon who show up to bully Poehler. “The Social Network” star Justin Timberlake pops up at one point to plant a kiss on Poehler and then blab about her sub-par smooching skills. Timberlake returns later to lampoon his recent Hollywood gigs in the sketch “Actor II Actor” with Andy Samberg, in which the funnyman bluntly asks the singer-turned-actor, “When you gonna make some more music?” Timberlake then flexed his acting chops by storming off in a faux rage. The show’s “Weekend Update” sketches also boasted highlights, including a dead-on impression of Will Smith by newcomer Jay Pharoah, replete with random shouts of “Woo!” as the comic touted the Smiths’ talented brood. Fred Armisen busted out his bumbling impersonation of embattled New York Governor David Paterson, ragging on upstate New York and dishing on current gubernatorial candidates, Andrew Cuomo and Carl Paladino. Then, the real Governor Paterson rolled behind the desk, taking jabs at Armisen’s impression and critiquing him for still rocking a beard. “I shaved that off a year ago, are you blind?” the sight-challenged politician quipped, before comparing “SNL” to Albany, saying, “There’s a lot of characters, it’s funny for 10 minutes [but] then you just want it to go away.” Katy Perry didn’t say much during her “SNL” cameo but she may have had one of the most memorable comedic turns of the night. The singer, who recently battled drama over a “Sesame Street” clip that was deemed too racy for the toddler set, bounded into a “Bronx Beat” sketch helmed by Poehler and fellow ex-castmember Maya Rudolph. Playing a bosomy teen named Maureen Dichico who’s been causing a lot of “hullabaloo” at the local library due to her blossoming figure, Perry fielded exclamations from the chatty duo like, “Honey, you’ve exploded! Kaboom!” The pair addressed Perry’s choice of attire — a low-cut t-shirt emblazoned with “Sesame Street” resident Elmo — with barbs like, “Look at Elmo, his head’s all stretched out!” Later, the ladies quip “Who cares if kids are looking at boobs? Boobs feed babies,” a wink at the controversy, which sparked whoops from the audience. Perry also hit the stage throughout the show, first rocking her summer jam “California Gurls.” Although she worked the Snoop Dogg-assisted smash solo, she made up for the Doggfather’s absence by tricking out the set with lots of pretend sweets and mounds of fake cotton candy. Clutching a bling-laden mic and sporting a snug, bon-bon-studded minidress, Perry vamped it up as dancers in pink bra tops and bewigged singers grooved behind her. She later returned for her single “Teenage Dream,” this time opting for a sexed-up schoolgirl outfit with a sequined tie, tight blouse and tiny tartan skit. Perry began the performance with some a cappella belting and continued to display some powerhouse vocals as her back-up crew bobbed about in cheerleader and football-player outfits. As fog rolled across the stage and her band and dancers worked it in their campy high-school costumes, Perry ripped the final notes of the song and wrapped up the performance with a wink. How to Avoid Mistakes When Raising Green Kids

When you become a parent, you want to extend your eco-awareness to your kids so that they too can reap the benefits. Sure, you’ve chosen cloth diapers and are careful about recycling and packing nutritious, organic lunches, but what are you missing? Chances are some things you haven’t even thought of. Check out four of the most common mistakes parents make when trying to raise healthy, happy, green kids. 1. Hidden Chemicals Just because a product is labeled as natural or even organic does not mean that it is a healthy choice. In fact, many common seemingly healthy products aimed at kids are filled with harmful chemicals. Check out this amazing book, Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills, to find out the truth about the dangers of common preservatives and food additives. What you’ll find is that there is concrete scientific evidence against common substances like MSG found in a variety of foods (not just Chinese food!!). These harmful additives are used as flavor enhancers and represent a billion-dollar-business. The problem is that they are also making us sick. The good news is that we can do something about this. Check the labels of foods and stay away from packaged foods that contain an abundance of chemicals. Also, be careful because seemingly harmless ingredients such as “enzymes,” “hydrolyzed vegetable protein,” “natural flavors” and “spices” are sometimes food additives in disguise! Two of the biggest culprits aimed right at our kids are Campbell Soups and Lunchables. 2. Toxic Toys and Clothes We live in a world where quantity is often chosen over quality — especially when it comes to our kids’ clothes and toys. Even the most environmentally aware parent can get caught up in a wave of seemingly never ending consumerism. Worse yet, parents often end up buying an abundance of toys and clothes for their children that are actually toxic and harmful to their health. In fact, according to the New York Daily News, dangerous levels of lead and hazardous chemicals continue to pop up in some popular children’s products like Barbie Bike Flair Accessory Kit and the Dora the Explorer Activity Tote. Also, conventional clothing can retain toxic chemicals that can cause rashes. So what is a parent to do? Check out wonderful websites like WildDill.com that offer a variety of clothes and toys that are safe, educational, high-quality and eco-friendly. 3. Over Juiced Sure, consuming some juice is OK for our kids' health, but nowadays over consumption of juice is becoming a real problem. So much so that even the American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a policy statement about “The Use and Misuse of Fruit Juice in Pediatrics.” According to the AAP, drinking too much juice can contribute to obesity, the development of cavities and gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, excessive gas, bloating and abdominal pain. Also, NRP, a California environmental group, has found amounts of lead in bottled juice, juice boxes and packaged fruit that exceed federal limits for young children. And compounding this problem, juice boxes are often not recycled and end up littering our landfills. 4. Carbon Kid Print When is the last time you calculated your carbon kid print? Um….never? If you are like many parents who calculate their individual footprint and its impact on the environment, you might realize that you’ve never even included your kids in this equation – or started a conversation with them about how they can have a positive impact on the environment. Thankfully there is this wonderful website called ZeroFootPrint Kids Calculator that can help. The site consists of five easy to understand categories: Transportation, What You Eat, Home & School, What You Use, and What You Throw Away. After the amounts are entered, the site tallies the results in terms of carbon dioxide emitted per year. Plus, one of the best parts is that kids can see how their results compare to those in different countries such as Australia, Brazil and China. http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/news-harmful-mistakes-parents-make-when-rai… :+environmentalgraffiti+(Environmental+Graffiti) added by: treewolf39

Unedited Interview Reveals Bill O’Reilly Cut Best Of Jon Stewart’s Interview (Again)

Did you think that the conversation between Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly lacked “zazz”? For all the expectation of two of the heavyweights of opinion media world — ostensibly presenting differing ideological points of view — the jovial exchange lacked any real body blows to declare a “winner.” Well, thanks to the folks at Fox News, the entire unedited version of the interview is available, and it turns out that much of the un-aired portion includedthe most pointed commentary by Mr. Stewart, which we’ve summed up below. The edited version that aired on last night’s program, came out to just under 12 minutes of actual interview time (interrupted by a commercial break.) The unedited interview (embedded at link in two parts) rounded up to over 19 minutes. So what was cut out? Some of the most interesting parts to the interview, namely Stewart’s mocking of O’Reilly’s “folksiness” and blue collar perspective. More importantly, a fascinating back and forth over the Tea Party movement that Factor producers decided to leave on the cutting room floor. Unedited Interview @ link This isn't the first time Bill O'Reilly has heavily edited Jon Stewart's interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xobA2MoDzDY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLMQ2TIpfWk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzSxMdAxmC8 added by: Future_America

Sesame Workshop Cites ‘Parent,’ ‘Care-Giver’ Demos in Katy Perry Snafu

This just in: ” Sesame Street has a long history of working with celebrities across all genres, including athletes, actors, musicians and artists. Sesame Street has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver. We also value our viewer’s opinions and particularly those of parents. In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on You Tube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street , which is aimed at preschoolers. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on You Tube.” Thank God, because the comments are hilarious . [ Sesame Workshop ]

The Wachowskis’ Colbalt Neutral 9 to Feature Gay Sex, Assassination Attempt

Been curious about what the Wachowskis were planning for Cobalt Neutral 9 , their gay love story set during the Iraq War? Vulture reports that the film will revolve around “found footage” (think Cloverfield ) of an American soldier named Butch, his gay Iraqi lover and their assassination attempt against then-president George W. Bush. In addition to that hot button plot turn, the two lovers will also have “graphically described sex” while wearing burqas. Needless to say, the Wachowskis are reportedly considering self-financing this one. [ Vulture ]
