But even though Jennifer Lawrence defended Ryan Seacrest against #MeToo accusations, she totally disavows Harvey Weinstein. And she’s now responding to the rumor that the disgraced former producer launched her career in exchange for sex. Late last week, a Jane Doe plaintiff filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein. The actual suit says that he lured her into a private meeting under the guise of discussing her career, only to then sexually assault her. It is an all-too-familiar story of the nightmare that many women face in the entertainment industry and beyond. Though the actress filing the suit has not been identified, one very recognizable name from court documents caught people’s attention. According to the lawsuit, Weinstein once claimed that he had slept with Jennifer Lawrence. His alleged brag also said that the sexual relationship was responsible for J Law’s A-list career. Of particular note was that he referred to Jennifer’s 2012 Oscar win. “I slept with Jennifer Lawrence and look where she is,” he reportedly told Jane Doe. “She has just won an Oscar.” The implication was that he could make — or break — careers on a whim. Pointing to a star at the height of her career and claiming that he made it happen in exchange for sex was clearly meant to encourage this woman to voluntarily sleep with him. That is just so gross — especially in light of everything else that the world has heard about Weinstein. So … is it true? Jennifer Lawrence released a statement to Entertainment Tonight to address the claim that Weinstein allegedly made to the unnamed actress. “My heart breaks for all the women who were victimized by Harvey Weinstein,” Jennifer Lawrence writes. But she, she announces, was not one of them. J Law states: “I have never had anything but a professional relationship with him.” “This is yet another example of the predatory tactics and lies that he engaged,” she concludes. “In to lure countless women.” “This lawsuit was filed and updated strategically with no notice given or any attempt to reach out to Mr. Weinstein’s attorneys for one reason;” Weinstein’s team claims. That’s right — he still has people who are willing to take his money in order to defend him. “It was meant to embarrass Mr. Weinstein and garner unchecked media attention,” Weinstein’s spokesperson claims. Bold of them to imply that their client could possibly be embarrassed at this point. We’re well past that. “There is absolutely no truth to the malicious claims made in this lawsuit,” the response claims. The statement continues: “And we are reviewing our options with an eye on filing for an immediate dismissal.” “Mr. Weinstein is embarrassed for Ms. Lawrence,” the spokesperson says. They continue: “with whom he has only had a professional and respectful relationship, who has sadly been dragged into this ugly attempt at defamation.” Jennifer Lawrence began her statement by directly expressing sympathy for Weinstein’s alleged victims, but she didn’t say alleged . We imagine that J Law would tell Weinstein exactly where he can stick his embarrassment. In the end, Weinstein’s response says that this lawsuit is just taking cheap shots without repercussion. “This filing further proves that anyone can say whatever they want in a lawsuit,” the spokesperson adds. The statement concludes: “for maximum shock value, to defame and debase, without having to offer any facts or reality.” Well, people can make a lot of accusations in lawsuits. What Offset did was manipulative, toxic and downright abusive. Cardi B has made it clear that she no longer wants to be with this man, has “fallen out of love” with him and wants to move on with her life. For folks with common sense, this is understandable given that Offset has cheated on her multiple times during the course of their relationship. But Offset isn’t trying to hear that. He refuses to leave her alone and learn from his mistakes. So, he took it upon himself to steal her moment, which was monumental given that Cardi was the first female headliner in Rolling Loud’s 3-year-history. He decided that his needs trumped her feelings, personal space and spotlight. So he came to her job uninvited, ambushing and coercing her in front of thousands of people, thinking she would crumble under the pressure of not wanting to bruise a Black man’s ego in public and essentially take him back. If this isn’t the definition of toxic masculinity, I don’t know what is. Sadly, he didn’t do this all by himself. For the complicit folks at Rolling Loud who knew about this before hand—and even bragged about it on Twitter—and the people close to Cardi who were in on the stunt and didn’t tell her ahead of time, they all need their asses beat too. This did not have to happen in public. Be clear: My critique isn’t about me stanning. I’ve never been a Cardi B fan—I’m still confused at all her Grammy nominations and am often turned off by her online and in-person behavior , especially that NYFW nonsense with Nicki Minaj a few months back. Not to mention, her colorism and past homophobic and transphobic remarks. But what I do appreciate is her come-up story, her resilience and watching her grow as a woman, a rapper and a mother. I want Cardi to be happy, successful and revel in the fact that she knows her worth. But perhaps, that’s the problem. Perhaps that’s why philandering goons like T.I. , The Game , Kirk Frost and 50 Cent continue to berate the 26-year-old for “breaking up her family,” while downplaying the severity that having sex with other women can have on a marriage. Could you imagine if Cardi B would have cheated on Offset? These same “men” would never be fighting this hard for this relationship to work. But I digress. See, folks hate when Black women stick up for themselves, have standards and are empowered in their decisions. In addition, folks routinely shame Black women who refuse to allow their relationships to be solely based on pain, one-sided sacrifice, trauma and infidelity. It literally makes folks’ blood boil to see Black women unbossed, unbothered and happy on their own terms—just ask Ciara . In the end, if Cardi takes Offset back, that’s her own business and I promise not to judge. And while she has asked for folks to not “bash him,” it’s important that we continue to hold this man—and other Black men like him— accountable, an act that too often feels like a rarity instead of the norm. It’s also important that we listen to Black women and remind them that despite what the world may tell them, they are the experts of their own lives and know what’s best for them and their families. Finally, if anything, it’s important for us to use Offset’s behavior as a teachable moment to educate brothas on why this is unacceptable, what healthy relationships and boundaries actually look like, and why Black women are not garbage bags to dump your trashy trifling baggage into. We’re tired of carrying that load, and frankly, we’re entitled to so much better. It seems like just yesterday that the Love & Hip Hop couple shocked the world by getting together long after their respective stints on the show, but now, they’re proving the skeptics wrong as they happily celebrate their first child together turning 1-year-old. In true mommy fashion, Cyn posted up a few emotional posts following up to Lexington’s birthday, one of just her baby boy and another of her and Joe in the delivery room following giving birth and meeting for the first time. She also thanked her baby daddy Budden for “being amazing father and soulmate.” Though the couple hasn’t posted any official party photos yet, they celebrated with friends and family at the crib on Saturday–where both Cyn and Joe kept it cute showing off the party on their respective Instagram stories. Santana shared before via twitter that the theme of the party was going to be “Elmo in Lex Land,” and as evidenced from pictures and videos, the festivities featured both a real-life Elmo and an Elmo cake to match. Just as Joe describes in the videos below, it looks like little Lexington is just trying to sleep while the festivities go on around him, but Cyn is excited enough about the party for the whole family. Though we got a glimpse into the party from the happy couple on their IG stories, we can expect to see some better footage in the coming days.
