Does Tyler Perry make movies Black people should be proud of? Tyler Perry Defends Films And Dismisses Critics Tyler Perry talked about how he handles the criticism that is thrown his way and he says that the positive feedback that he gets from fans of his movies heavily overshadows the critics’ talk. Via HuffPo Live: “Here’s the thing about the critics, let me tell you this, I look for the truth in the critique, I honestly do. If there’s something in there that makes sense to me, I try to find and say ‘You know what, I thought that.’ But if it’s vitriolic, if it’s just venomous, I don’t pay attention to it. But for me, it’s very difficult because I have to hear the balance, right? So you have someone who says ‘This is awful, this is the worst thing I have ever seen.’ And then I’ve got a mother who’s sending me a letter saying, and these are real letters by the thousands on my Facebook page, ‘I was in an abusive relationship, I was able to get out when I saw Diary of a Mad Black Woman.’ One woman talked about having a cornea transplant and the first movie she wanted to see was mine. These are real stories that touch my heart in such a way that I’m thinking, why even pay attention to that when it’s the people that are moved and keep coming to see the films.” Tyler Perry knows what works and what doesn’t work for his fanbase. It’s no shock that there are lot of thumb thugs that like to use their 140 characters to spread hate speech. Humboldt University Students And Professors Map Most Racist Twitter States Via GuardianUK Here on the data team, we tend to be skeptical about the accuracy of semantic analysis. But the students and professors at Humboldt State University who produced this map read the entirety of the 150,000 geo-coded tweets they analysed. Using humans rather than machines means that this research was able to avoid the basic pitfall of most semantic analysis where a tweet stating ‘the word homo is unacceptable’ would still be classed as hate speech. The data has also been ‘normalised’, meaning that the scale accounts for the total twitter traffic in each county so that the final result is something that shows the frequency of hateful words on Twitter. The only question that remains is whether the views of US Twitter users can be a reliable indication of the views of US citizens. Looks like all the racist and homophobic tweeters are on the midwest, south, and east coast. What the hell…. “Iron Man” Movie Theatre Promo Stunt Mirrors Colorado Theatre Shooting A operators of movie theatre in Missouri has issued an apology to moviegoers and police after they staged a stunt intended to promote “Iron Man 3,” where a man entered the movie theatre dressed in body armor and carrying a fake rifle. Several moviegoers were immediately frightened, as the stunt mirrored the Colorado movie theatre massacre that took place last summer. via Fox News Operators of a Missouri movie theater apologized Friday for a stunt in which an actor dressed in black, wearing body armor and carrying a fake rifle walked in to the movie house. The stunt occurred during a promotion for the movie “Iron Man 3″ last weekend at the Goodrich Capital 8 Theaters in Jefferson City. Actors appeared at the theater, including some dressed as officers and one as Iron Man. Another actor was wearing what appeared to be assault gear and carrying a rifle. Some moviegoers were frightened and called 911, recalling the shooting in July at a Colorado theater during the premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises.” That attack killed 12 people and injured dozens others, and authorities said the gunman was dressed in police-style body armor. Management of the Jefferson City theater apologized on the theater’s Facebook page, saying it was meant to be part of the entertainment. Korea To Speak To Kim Jong-un About Releasing Kenneth Bae According to TMZ reports : Dennis Rodman tells TMZ … he’s going back to North Korea on August 1 to reopen the political dialogue with Kim Jong-un … because Barack Obama “can’t do s**t.” Rodman was out in L.A. yesterday when we asked about his plan to head back to DPRK to visit his tiny, little, missile-obsessed “friend” with the weird haircut. The Worm told us he’ll do everything in his power to sway Jong-un into releasing American Kenneth Bae — who was sentenced to 15 years hard labor in North Korea for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government. “I’m gonna try and get the guy out,” Rodman said … “It’s gonna be difficult.” Then came the Obama attack — “We got a black president [who] can’t even go talk to [Jong-un] … Obama can’t do s**t, I don’t know why he won’t go talk to him.” A short time later, Rodman continued the anti-Obama talk — saying, “Obama?
