SMH: Nevada Inmate Found Dead In Cell After His Execution Was Called Off

Source: Avalon / Getty Inmate Whose Execution Was Called Off Found Dead In Cell A man who was convicted of murder twice–who declared he wanted to die and who Nevada officials said tried several times to kill himself–has been found dead from an apparent hanging after two scheduled lethal injections were postponed, officials said on Saturday. 48-year-old Scott Raymond Dozier was found unresponsive in his solo death-row cell at the state’s maximum-security prison, Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Santina told The Associated Press. Dozier had said repeatedly that he wanted to die instead of spending the rest of his life in prison. “I’ve been very clear about my desire to be executed … even if suffering is inevitable,” Dozier explained in a handwritten note to a state court judge, who postponed his execution in November 2017 over concerns the untried drug regimen could leave him suffocating, conscious, and unable to move. “Just get it done, just do it effectively and stop fighting about it,” the frustrated inmate told The Associated Press in a telephone interview last August. But his bid to become the first Nevada inmate put to death since 2006 was called off twice amid court fights over a three-drug combination that had never been used in the U.S. The starts-and-stops in Dozier’s case propelled Nevada to the top of a national debate about the death penalty and shed light on extraordinary efforts some states take to try to obtain drugs from pharmaceutical companies that insist they don’t want their products used for executions. Dozier gave up appeals for the death sentence he received in 2007 for separate killings of methamphetamine drug trade associates in 2002 in both Phoenix and Las Vegas. Last month, state lawyers revealed in a separate federal lawsuit over Dozier’s treatment behind bars that that he had tried several methods to kill himself in recent months, including attempting to obtain drops of a deadly drug on a piece of paper sent through prison mail. Dozier’s lawyers also revealed that he apparently cut his neck and wrist with a razor in October. Dozier was not on suicide watch Saturday, according to authorities, but was found dead at 4:35 p.m. at the prison in Ely, about 250 miles north of Las Vegas. The prisons spokeswoman said she didn’t immediately know when Dozier had last been seen by guards. Santina said that would be part of investigations by the department’s inspector general and White Pine County sheriff’s office. Continue reading

Get Well Soon: Ariana Grande Cancels Her Las Vegas New Years Eve Performance Due To “Unforeseeable Health Reasons”

Source: Steve Granitz / Getty Ariana Grande Pulls Out Of Her New Years Eve Performance Ariana Grande has officially canceled her Las Vegas performance just days before New Year’s Eve “due to unforeseeable health reasons.” Grande was originally scheduled to perform at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Saturday. The hotel announced in a statement to The Associated Press on Friday that the she will not be performing after all. The hotel also said guests can receive refunds at their point of purchase. Ariana also posted her own message to her Instagram story on December 28, a few days before the scheduled performance, to briefly explain to fans why she won’t be making it to Las Vegas. The singer wrote, “vegas, I’m currently working through some health issues and am beyond sorry i won’t be able to see u this weekend. i love u and so look forward to seeing u and making it up to u next year.” Even though she won’t be performing on New Years, 2018 is probably a year that Ms. Grande is more than happy to put behind her. Although she’s had arguably the best year of her career, the singer’s personal woes have been just as public as her musical achievements. Her song “Thank U, Next” is spending its sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, she recently earned two Grammy nominations, and was also named woman of the year by Billboard. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Ariana’s year also included the end of her relationship with comedian-actor Pete Davidson and the death of her former boyfriend, the rapper Mac Miller. Get well soon, Ari. Continue reading

DAMN: A Now-Deleted Instagram Post May Have Revealed A New Kendrick Lamar Album Is Coming In 2019

Source: Joseph Okpako / Getty We Might Get A New Kendrick Album Sometime Next Year Kendrick Lamar  could have some new material coming sooner than we all think… During a recent interview with the  Los Angeles Times , Lamar debunked rumors that he was working on the follow-up to his 2017 masterpiece  DAMN.  “He claims he hasn’t been working on a new album, but says that he’s constantly working,” the interview mentions when speaking on potential new music from the star. But luckily for Kung Fu Kenny fans, the Compton native might actually have some new material releasing in 2019. As Pop Craze  points out, it looks like Polydor Records–which handles Interscope’s distribution in Europe–may have accidentally announced a 2019 K. Dot’s release. The label posted an Instagram story that named all the artists who were expected to drop projects in 2019, which included some pretty big acts like Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Selena Gomez, Schoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar. Polydor Records, who distributes Interscope albums in Europe, revealed in a now-deleted Instagram story that the following artists are releasing albums in 2019: @LadyGaga , @CarlyRaeJepsen , @Madonna , @LanaDelRey , @ToveLo , @SelenaGomez , @KendrickLamar , @BillieEilish and many more! pic.twitter.com/xPSfYSPtTM — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) December 25, 2018 As we mentioned before, the post has since been deleted–which means that it either contained inaccurate information or it contained some information that wasn’t supposed to go public. And of course, the latter could mean new Kendrick. Rumors of a new Kendrick album have been swirling since about a week after the rapper dropped DAMN. in 2017. In September, Kenny’s TDE labelmate, Isaiah Rashad claimed he had heard the rapper’s forthcoming album, but a few days later, TDE head Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith announced that a Kendrick album wasn’t dropping anytime soon. All signs point to Kendrick not having a new album in the works….but we’ll go with the little glimmer of hope that he does have one in the stash instead. Continue reading
