Earlier today, Joan Rivers passed away after complications from a surgical procedure caused her to be placed in a medically-induced coma last week. In a way, it was fitting that we learned of Joan’s condition the same day that we found out Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got married . With the world still in shock over the suicide of Robin Williams , the actor’s wife has released a statement in mourning of the late Oscar winner. “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken,” said Susan Schneider, adding: “On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.” Robin Williams: His Most Memorable Roles 1. NASCAR star Tony Stewart is under police investigation after taking the life of fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. in a horrific accident yesterday during the Empire Super Sprints series event in Canandaigua, New York. Ward was 20 years old. His vehicle had crashed into an outside wall after being clipped by another driver (believed to be Stewart). Ward proceeded to exit his car walk on to the track to confront Stewart. In the following video, you can see Ward pointing his finger and yelling, as one car swerves to avoid him and then Stewart’s No. 14 plows into him. Tony Stewart Kills Kevin Ward Jr. Ward was taken to the hospital and died of the injuries sustained in the crash. Stewart dropped out today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race in response to the tragedy, saying via statement: “There aren’t words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr. It’s a very emotional time for all involved, and it is the reason I’ve decided not to participate in today’s race at Watkins Glen. Elaine Stritch, a Broadway legend and three-time Emmy Award winner, passed away Thursday morning. She was 89 years old. The actress is likely best known for her stage roles (Bus Stop, Sail Away, Company), but garnered a new fan base in 2008 when she began her run as Jack Donaghy ’s mom on 30 Rock. She was nominated as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for the role. In 1993, Stritch won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Law & Order. The late star appeared in two Woody Allen movies, September (1987) and Small Time Crooks (2000), while more recent big screen credits include Monster In Law (2005), Autumn In New York (2000), Screwed (2000) and Out to Sea (1997). Oscar-winning filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul was found dead yesterday in Stockholm, Sweden, according to local police officials and the Associated Press. He was only 36 years old. A cause of death was not specified, but spokesperson did say it was not being treated as suspicious . No other details were immediately available. Born and raised in Sweden, Malik Bendjelloul won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2013, for his acclaimed film Searching for Sugar Man . The movie chronicled the life and career of singer Sixto Rodriguez, and the efforts of two of his fans who set out to discover what had become of him. Bendjelloul started off as a child actor in the ’90s. He later studied journalism and media production and worked for a time as a reporter, as well. Searching for Sugar Man was his first feature film documentary. Keith Crisco, the Democratic candidate running against Clay Aiken in North Carolina’s Second Congressional District, died at his home in Asheboro on Monday. He was 71 years old. Initial reports indicate Crisco suffered injuries from a fall at his house around 1 p.m. today. He was announced dead at the scene. At the time of Crisco’s passing, the District 2 race was considered “too close to call,” though Aiken lead Crisco by 369 votes at last count. “I am stunned and deeply saddened by Keith Crisco’s death,” the former American Idol runner-up said in a statement. “He was a gentleman, a good and honorable man and an extraordinary public servant. I was honored to know him.” Aiken added that he is “suspending all campaign activities as we pray for his family and friends.” Crisco served as Secretary of the North Caroline Department of Commerce before leaving his post in 2012 and taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church in Asheboro. Liam Neeson is opening up about the loss of his wife, the late actress Natasha Richardson, who tragically died in a skiing accident five years ago. For the actor, even half a decade of time hasn’t taken the pain away. “I still think I’m going to hear her,” Neeson tells Anderson Cooper. “There’s periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years … any time I hear that door opening.” In a clip from an interview to air Sunday night on 60 Minutes, the actor describes the pact he made with his wife and what he said to her as she lay dying.
