People Ain’t Isht: Freaky Revenge Flick Website Owner Sentenced To 18 Years In Prison

Revenge Photo Website Owner Sentenced To 18 years In Prison Via DailyMail A San Diego man who operated a ‘revenge p**n’ website and then charged victims to remove nude images and their personal information was sentenced Friday to 18 years in state prison, the attorney general’s office said. Kevin Bollaert, 28, was convicted in February of 21 counts of identity theft and six counts of extortion in San Diego Superior Court for running a pair of websites that capitalized on the internet as a forum for public shaming. The landmark case was the first time a person had been tried for a running revenge porn ring in the United States. Jilted lovers and hackers could anonymously post nude photos of people without their consent, along with personal information about them, at a website Bollaert created and moderated, called ugotposted.com. More than 10,000 images, mainly of women, were posted between December 2012 and September 2013. People who sought to have the explicit images taken down were directed to changemyreputation.com and charged $250 to $350 to remove the racy content. Victims included teachers, wives and professionals. This guy deserves the smallest and most uncomfortable of cells. Image via YouTube

Mugshots V.S. Yearbook Photos: Newspaper Shows Racial Bias Towards White Criminals

Why Did A Newspaper Use Mugshot Photos Of Black Criminals And Yearbook Photos Of White Ones? An Iowa newspaper recently got rightfully blasted for running stories on a group of white and black burglars with vastly different pictures. A group of black men were recently  arrested for burglary  and put into the paper with their mugshots. By contrast however three white men were also arrested for the same crime and their pictures were yearbook photos. Mind you searching for mugshots required extra work for the writer, so why the push to find mugshots for the black criminals and not the white ones? Via SoLetsTalkAbout: Why did this story get run with these criminals’ school photos, where on the same day, same situation, the article of another group of burglars featured their mug shots? Same day. Same channel. Same crime. Same author. So why weren’t mugshots good enough for the white guys who got arrested? Who already looks guilty before their trial? Which story plants the seed into a potential jury pool that this is a group of good kids versus this is a group of criminals? The Gazette’s weak explanation is that they can’t get mugshots without a formal request, so why didn’t anyone formally request them since they obviously requested the mugshots of the Black men? Because nobody wanted to. It didn’t even cross their minds to use a mugshot for these nice white boys accused of THE SAME CRIME, being written up by THE SAME REPORTER. I would have more respect for these people if they would just admit it. “Ooops. We made a mistake. Racism is so ingrained in our society we didn’t even realize we did it. We’ll make every effort to correct this behavior in the future.” Blah blah blah. But I haven’t seen a retraction or any acknowledgement of wrongdoing and that’s half the problem. Nobody wants to be called a racist even when they get caught being racist, whether intentionally or not. The worst part is, I’m almost positive the author didn’t consciously say “I’ll use mugshots for the Black men but not the others.” It was just an instinctual reaction, implicit bias, the result of being conditioned from birth to view Black men one way and white men another way. That’s what we have to overcome in our everyday lives. It’s not about you saying, “I’m not a racist because I try to treat everyone equally.” It’s the knowledge that YOU could have done this and not even realized it because no one pointed it out to you. This is clearly racial bias, if you’re going to write a story on criminals whether white or black then be fair.

Black McDonald’s Employee: ‘Managers Told Me To Put Mustard On Burns’

Black McDonald’s Employee Says Managers Said Put Mustard On Burns More than two dozen low-wage McDonald’s workers filed health and safety complaints against the fast-food chain on Monday, alleging that understaffing and time pressures in stores have led to burns, falls and other injuries, according to the worker group representing them. Via HuffPo reports: The 28 complaints, involving stores in 18 cities, were filed with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the relevant state agencies tasked with ensuring safe workplaces. The workers submitted them with the support of Fight for $15, the union-backed labor coalition that’s been agitating for a $15 minimum wage and union recognition in the industry. OSHA confirmed to The Huffington Post that it received the federal complaints Monday. One Chicago worker, Brittney Berry, alleged that she was so harried one day she slipped and caught her arm on the grill, leading her to be hospitalized and suffer nerve damage. She said she was advised by managers to treat the burn with a condiment. “My managers kept pushing me to work faster,” Berry, who was arrested last year in an act of civil disobedience against McDonald’s, said in a statement. “The managers told me to put mustard on it, but I ended up having to get rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. This is exactly why workers at McDonald’s need union rights.” The vast majority of McDonald’s stores are operated by franchisees rather than the fast-food company, but in a Monday statement, Fight for $15 argued that the responsibility to keep workers safe ultimately falls on McDonald’s. “McDonald’s sets minimal health and safety standards for all franchisees, but even these modest measures are not properly enforced,” the group said. “The company watches like a hawk nearly every aspect of its franchisees’ business operations via regular inspections, but it too often ignores health and safety problems.” “McDonald’s and its independent franchisees are committed to providing safe working conditions for employees in the 14,000 McDonald’s Brand U.S. restaurants,” McDonald’s spokeswoman Heidi Barker Sa Shekhe said in a statement. “We will review these allegations. It is important to note that these complaints are part of a larger strategy orchestrated by activists targeting our brand and designed to generate media coverage.” The safety complaints are indeed part of a broader shaming campaign that’s brought unprecedented scrutiny to the working conditions in fast food. For more than two years, Fight for $15, which is funded by the Service Employees International Union, has organized a highly successful series of strikes by workers at McDonald’s, KFC, Taco Bell and other restaurants in cities across the country. Much of that attention has been focused on McDonald’s. Discuss….
