Shailene Woodley was all set to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 . So set, in fact, that she already shot all of her scenes. But it looks like she’ll have to wait until the third film. Marc Webb announced that Woodley has been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 . “I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship,” said Webb about the decision. Woodley is understandably upset, saying, “Of course I’m bummed, but I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason.” The plan now is for the character to be introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 , which recently received a 2016 release date. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters May 2, 2014, without Woodley.
It has been almost 10 years since Garden State first hit theaters, and Braff hasn’t returned to the role of writer/director since. Until now. Braff, citing frustrations with the traditional Hollywood funding system, has taken to Kickstarter to crowdfund his new film, Wish I Was Here . The new film will act as a follow-up in tone, though not in story, to Garden State . In the very well-done and funny video, Braff explains that he was inspired by the incredible support fans showed for the Veronica Mars Kickstarter effort, and decided to take his own project to the site. Production has just barely begun in Chicago for the young adult adaptation Divergent , and already there’s an image! Shailene Woodley stars in the first Divergent image as Beatrice “Tris” Prior. Take a look: The film takes place in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions, each based on a different virtue. On their sixteenth birthday, everyone must choose whether to stay in the faction they were born in, or be initiated into a new one. Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Kate Winslet, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Tony Goldwyn, Ben Lamb and Christian Madsen also star. Divergent is based on the first novel in the series by Veronica Roth.
