Would America’s Got Talent’s New Singing Star Have Fared Differently on Idol?

Kalamazoo, Michigan native Debra Romer took the America’s Got Talent stage at Chicago’s auditions last night, and the results were — well, passable. Literally. Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne praised her vulnerability while Howie Mandel fist-bumped her with a “no.” But Debra’s reception shows just how different the audition criteria are between America’s Got Talent and American Idol , where she might’ve been championed (or rejected) for qualities not even mentioned by this triumvirate.

Bret Michaels Tells Oprah ‘I’m Just Very Thankful To Be Here’

‘The only thing that matters right now is taking care of my family,’ he says in his first TV interview since brain hemorrhage. By Josh Wigler Bret Michaels on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Wednesday Photo: Harpo In his first television interview since suffering a serious subarachnoid hemorrhage , Bret Michaels appeared live via satellite on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Wednesday (May 19) to discuss his medical emergency and subsequent recovery. “My life didn’t flash before my eyes,” Michaels told Oprah about his experience. “It wasn’t like, all of a sudden, a rerun of my life. What happened was, I got very sad. I went into completely just asking God, ‘You have to let me through this.’ ” Michaels said that while he prayed to God, he didn’t necessarily hear back. “I was doing a lot of asking at that point,” he explained with a laugh. “I know I’ve done a lot of rotten things, but I’m asking for a break here. If you could cut me a break just this time, I promise I’ll be better in the future.” In a video segment, Dr. Joseph Zabramski said that Michaels’ condition was very serious when he first arrived to the hospital. “I tried explaining to him what we would be doing, and he was really unable to stay awake,” he said. “It’s really quite a miracle that he’s done so well.” Zabramski said it’s still unclear exactly what caused the hemorrhage, but added: “The chance for re-bleeding is really no higher than anyone else in his age group. I think this is more common than people realize.” During his struggle, Michaels said his thoughts were affixed on “what matters most,” including his kids, family, best friends and loved ones. His career was not on his mind. “The only thing that matters right now is taking care of my family, my kids, and I thank God I’m still around to talk about it,” he said. A photo revealed that Michaels was still wearing his trademark bandanna throughout his ordeal. “It’s like Superman without the cape,” he laughed when asked why he continued to wear it. “If I’m going to go out, I want to go out rockin’!” Michaels’ family and friends appeared in pre-recorded video messages to discuss their fears and wish the Poison rock star well. “I just want to say hurry up and get your bum back to L.A., because your sugar mama needs you,” said Sharon Osbourne, Michaels’ co-star on “The Celebrity Apprentice.” “I want to give you a great big hug, and I want to see those gorgeous blue eyes of yours.” “The scariest part was thinking that my dad could die tonight,” Michaels’ daughter Raine recalled. “All these memories went flashing through my head of him. My first time on stage with him, my first time singing in the mic with him, my first time playing basketball. To think my dad wouldn’t be growing up with me or walking me down the aisle for my wedding was really heartbreaking.” Michaels teared up after both segments: “I’ll tell you, I said I wasn’t going to cry. That got me. I got the lump in my throat.” Michaels revealed that he’s asked his doctors to increase his rehab sessions to twice a day. Currently, he’s having trouble moving in his lower extremities, his neck is very stiff, and he continues to have headaches, though those are getting better with each passing day. “I don’t know what the reason is just yet,” he told Oprah of why he got a second chance at life. “Whatever or whomever blessed me, whatever guardian angel I had when I think of all the crazy, crazy things I’ve done in my life, I’m just very thankful to be here.” What did you think of Bret’s interview with Oprah? Celebrity Apprentice Recap: Is Bret Michaels Going to Win This Thing?

I didn’t want or expect three eliminations on Celebrity Apprentice last night, but that’s just what we got, isn’t it? Right down the line, Maria Kanellis, Curtis Stone, and Sharon Osbourne took the elevator ride to hell. Trump calmly explained that they didn’t sell out their coworkers enough. Of course. But more importantly: Only Holly Robinson Peete and Bret Michaels are left. Huh? This isn’t the Sharon Osbourne-Curtis Stone finale we banked on following Summer Sanders’ elimination . Could Bret, the man who joyfully gave us the catchphrase “Pump up the wiener,” really win it all?

Bret Michaels To Appear On Live ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Finale

By Gil Kaufman Bret Michaels on “Celebrity Apprentice” Photo: Ray Tamarra/Getty Images A few days before Bret Michaels is scheduled to play his first concert since a brain hemorrhage landed him in the intensive care unit, the Poison singer will appear on next Sunday’s finale of “The Celebrity Apprentice.” Michaels made the cut on Sunday night’s (May 16) edition of the show — taped several months ago — which paved the way for him to make his comeback on this week’s live finale, where he will go head-to-head with actress Holly Robinson Peete. “I came in here as a complete underdog,” Michaels said after getting the news on the show. “You know what everyone’s mistake was? They so underestimated me!” Michaels made the cut after Sharon Osbourne, chef Curtis Stone and model/wrestler Maria Kanellis were eliminated. Michaels has been competing on “Celebrity Apprentice” in support of his chosen charity, the American Diabetes Association. The singer, who was diagnosed as a child with Type 1 diabetes, was first sidelined on April 12, when he was rushed to a hospital for an emergency appendectomy. Ten days later, he suffered a brain hemorrhage that kept him in the intensive care unit for two weeks. After making rapid progress, though, Michaels is in the midst of intensive physical rehab and announced last week that he will make his live return at the Hard Rock Live in Biloxi, Mississippi, on May 28. He is also reportedly set to begin a tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd on June 10 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Before any of that, though, Michaels will pay a visit to “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Wednesday to discuss his recent health travails. Bret Michaels’ Condition Is ‘Devastating,’ Sharon Osbourne Says

Bret Michaels Band guitarist Pete Evick posts a message to fans about his friend’s ‘passion, energy and love.’ By MTV News staff Bret Michaels Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Sharon Osbourne doesn’t just star with Bret Michaels on the current season of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” she’s counted him as a close friend for nearly 30 years. So when she learned of the Poison frontman’s brain hemorrhage and subsequent stint in an intensive care unit , she was crushed. Bret Michaels’ Career In Photos “[It’s] just hideous,” Osbourne told Us Weekly on Tuesday (April 27.) “It’s devastating, and it makes you feel all these different things. Your heart goes out to his family, your heart goes out to him. He’s the nicest guy in the world. And then you start thinking about your own mortality. You start thinking, ‘Oh my God.’ It just makes you appreciate how lucky we all are.” Osbourne added that the last time she had seen Michaels, he was “absolutely” in good health. She wasn’t the only friend of Michaels’ to comment on the ailing rocker’s health. His “Apprentice” co-star Bill Goldberg told RadarOnline.com that he had recently spoken to Michaels and advised him to “slow down with his lifestyle,” and “Apprentice” boss Donald Trump told the “Today” show that Michaels was “a real competitor … he would work so hard, maybe harder than anybody else. And he’s doing well.” And on Tuesday, Pete Evick — Michaels’ friend and guitarist in the Bret Michaels Band — posted a lengthy message on BretMichaels.com , which thanked fans for the “overwhelming love and well wishes” the rocker has received and paid tribute to a man he called “a loyal friend” and a fiercely hard worker. “When I was invited into Bret’s world, over 5 years ago, I was introduced to a new level of strength and loyalty … so much that I had to rethink my whole life and how I do things. I didn’t understand what it meant to be a loyal friend. The kind that would do anything you ever needed without even asking why, what, who or where,” Evick wrote. “Bret is the kind of guy that wakes up every day and treats it like it is his first, and may be his last. He is full of passion, energy and love. But most of all, he is a survivor. Against the odds of a critical music industry, or battling a crippling disease, over and over again Bret has come out on top and ahead of the game. I personally expect nothing less from him in this situation.” Share your own well-wishes for Bret Michaels right here in the comments. The 5 Least Professional Moments from Last Night’s Celebrity Apprentice

Knowing what’s good for us, Celebrity Apprentice staged another challenge that best suited the talents of Cyndi Lauper and Bret Michaels. Scrumptious. This time, the teams competed to best revamp young country stars for a splashy debut. The three remaining gents (Bret Michaels, Curtis Stone, and team-leader Goldberg) wrastled with the image of Elvis/Gomer Pyle hybrid Luke Bryan while the ladies (Holly Robinson-Peete, our girl Summer Sanders , a convalescent Sharon Osbourne, Maria Kanellis and team-leader Cyndi) rebooted perky-young-thang Emily West. While the dudes took another beating in the boardroom, last night’s five most unprofessional moments knew no gender divide.
