It’s a sad state of affairs in Africa Nigeria imposed a 24-hour curfew Saturday in the northern city of Kano after assailants killed scores of people and wounded others in a hail of gunfire and coordinated bombings of eight government sites. A military official told CNN that at least 156 people were dead and feared the number would rise. “The hospitals are not equipped to deal with the influx and severity of the injuries, so we are expecting that figure to go up further,” the official said. Nwankpa Nwankpa, a Red Cross information officer in the capital, Abuja, said 50 people were injured in the attacks. He said that search and rescue operations are underway and volunteers are working to assist the injured. The attacks targeted several police stations, barracks and the building housing the assistant inspector general of police in Kano, Nigeria’s second largest city. A passport office, state security headquarters and the immigration office were also hit, police said. This probably will not bode well for Nigeria’s foreign relations as an militant Islamic group has proudly taken responsibility for the death’s of the countries citizens. Islamist group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the blast in a phone call to the Daily Trust, according to journalists at the newspaper. Nigeria closed its borders Saturday with Cameroon and Niger, whom it has accused of allowing the militants to move freely into Nigeria. …In December, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in four northern states. The declaration followed a series of Christmas Day attacks on Christian churches blamed on the Boko Haram group. The man suspected of masterminding those attacks, named Kabiru Sokoto, was briefly captured this week before escaping police custody while being transferred to another prison. Several police officers and the local commissioner are under investigation over his escape. A 50 million naira ($307,000) reward was also offered by police Thursday for any information leading to Sokoto’s re-arrest. R.I.P. to those who perished in this tragedy Source More On Bossip! Can they live??? Over the past few months we have THOROUGHLY enjoyed tuning in to “ T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle” on VH1 (Mondays @ 10pm). As entertaining and endearing as the show is, there has been an ongoing undercurrent of ugliness (no pun intended) when discussing Tiny’s…”aesthetic appeal” in comparison to Tip’s. There were always jokes and snide comments, but after an episode two weeks ago when “The Kang’s” other baby mama, Ranniqua , made an appearance the chit-chatter got louder and meaner. As mentioned in a previous post, most people found Ranniqua VERY attractive and began to wonder aloud, “Why the hell didn’t T.I. stay with her instead of Tiny??”. It seems everyday that another celebrity couple is getting divorced, and with so much talk about the absence of the Black family unit and Black love, shouldn’t people be happy that Harris’ appear to have a loving supportive relationship rather than playing the “Marvin’s Room” card saying that they think Tip “could do better”??? What say you? Are people unfairly judging T.I. and Tiny’s relationship?? Hit that comments section and speak your piece. More On Bossip! These people better leave our POTUS alone!!! Via Gawker: Andrew Adler, the owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, a weekly newspaper serving Atlanta’s Jewish community, devoted his January 13, 2012 column to the thorny problem of the U.S. and Israel’s diverging views on the threat posed by Iran. Basically Israel has three options, he wrote: Strike Hezbollah and Hamas, strike Iran, or “order a hit” on Barack Obama. Either way, problem solved! Here’s how Adler laid out “option three” in his list of scenarios facing Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu (the column, which was forwarded to us by a tipster, isn’t online, but you can read a copy here): Three, give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies. Yes, you read “three” correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel’s existence. Think about it. If I have thought of this Tom Clancy-type scenario, don’t you think that this almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel’s most inner circles? Another way of putting “three” in perspective goes something like this: How far would you go to save a nation comprised of seven million lives…Jews, Christians and Arabs alike? You have got to believe, like I do, that all options are on the table. It’s hard to tell whether or not Adler is just some crank. But the Atlanta Jewish Times, which he purchased in 2009, appears to be a real community newspaper. It was founded in 1925 and, according to Wikipedia, claims a circulation of 3,500 and staff of five. To judge from its web site, it’s a going concern. Source More On Bossip! Schwarzenegger, Nick Sheinberg and Kimberly Barth started the brand to generate awareness about global issues through fashion. By Kara Warner Patrick Schwarzenegger Photo: MTV News We’re always happy to see people using their power for good and striving to make the world a better place, which is why we were particularly pleased to meet Patrick Schwarzenegger, Nick Sheinberg and Kimberly Barth, the dedicated young people behind Project360 , a brand that uses fashion as a way to generate awareness for important global issues. The three “philanthropreneurs” invited MTV News to visit their headquarters in Los Angeles recently, as well as their fundraiser to benefit Best Buddies , during which they explained how Project360 was born. “Nick and I thought up the company at a women’s conference in 2008 by just creating little rubber bracelets,” Schwarzenegger, son of Arnold and Mariah Shriver, said of the organization’s beginnings. “It was really successful, and Kimberly was working at another booth and she came up and said, ‘These bracelets look great. I think we can expand from there.’ We always wanted to do something that gave back to charity. Fashion and wearing clothes is a daily routine for everybody. What better way to spread the word of giving back and philanthropic ways of life than to wear something that gives back to charity?” “The idea behind it is that it’s more than fashion, it’s a fashion statement,” Barth added. “Everything has an inspirational message that reflects the global cause that we donate to. It’s about more than clothing. It’s about style and looking cute, but it’s really about making a difference and making a global impact together.” Schwarzenegger said that while his famous family members inspired and instilled in him the values of public service, he and his co-founders started Project360 entirely on their own, with their own money, and their success has been particularly satisfying because of how much time and effort they’ve put into it. “We sit down together, we ponder a bunch of names depending on what charities we’ve picked,” Barth explained of their decision-making processes. “We go through different words, we talk about what has the most meaning to us and narrow them down, and we also want what would look best visually on a T-shirt.” The passionate, hardworking trio hopes the company can keep growing and one day be able to give back, like Toms Shoes’ one-for-one business model. “Every day, we have a new idea and new ambition, so we’ll see what happens,” Barth said. “I’m really excited about the immediate future and thrilled with how well it’s come to fruition to begin with. We’ll see what happens.” To see how other celebs are helping to make a difference, check out the MTV Act blog.
