Dummy In Halloween Display Prompts Multiple Calls To Detroit Police Talk about shook ones! If you saw this in your neighbors yard, would you be concerned enough to call the cops? Via Fox News reports : Larethia Haddon said police showed up to her home Tuesday, the first day she placed a dummy face down in her front yard. Officer Jennifer Moreno told The Detroit News that officers came back to her house on Wednesday and Thursday. “We received one call each about the dummy on the sixth, seventh and eighth,” Moreno said. “But as of Friday, the only call we received to Mendota was to check on the welfare of a 99-year-old woman.” Haddon said she puts the dummy face down in a different location of her yard every morning and watches the reactions from passers-by as she drinks her coffee. She says some have attempted CPR and “once they find out it’s a dummy, it’s so hilarious.” Haddon told the newspaper she used to live in Redford Township and would have emergency personnel show up almost every day. Haddon said the tradition started because her husband’s birthday is on Halloween. Haddon said she didn’t mean to offend anyone. “I’m trying to bring laughter to Detroit,” she said. “We really need it.” Detroit definitely deserves some laughs, but this might actually cause a few heart attacks! 1 Killed In Terrorist Attack At Free Speech Event Valentine’s Day has been marred already, thanks to a terrorist attack that claimed the life of a civilian and injured three police officers in Denmark. According to NY Daily News reports: At least one civilian was killed and three Denmark police officers were shot and wounded during a Copenhagen cafe free speech debate hosted by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has been threatened for drawing the Prophet Muhammed, police said. Two Danish-speaking gunmen, dressed in dark clothes, are on the loose. About 30 bullets burst threw the windows of Krudttoenden cafe in northern Copenhagen Saturday after French Ambassador Francois Zimeray had just finished speaking, police said. “They fired on us from the outside,” Zimeray told AFP. “It was the same intention as the Charlie Hebdo attack except they didn’t manage to get in.” The gunmen sped off in a dark Volkswagen Polo just after the shooting around 4 p.m., police said. Authorities said they found the abandoned car in eastern Copenhagen a little while later. A 40-year-old man who was attending the event died, police said in a statement. They did not release any other details. Three police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police told reporters at 7 p.m. local time. One was struck in the groin, another in the leg and the third in the shoulder. We’re praying for speedy recoveries for the officers involved. The attempt was quite similar to the recent attack in Paris , raising concerns throughout Europe. Police are investigating whether the shooting is an assassination attempt on Vilks, who is under police protection whenever he comes to Denmark, incident commander Jørgen Petersen told TV2. At least 13 people were arrested in connection to plots to kill Vilks after he drew the Muslim Prophet as a dog in 2007. Two brothers tried to burn down his house in 2010 and were arrested for arson. Vilks, 68, said he had received fewer invitations to give lectures because of increased security concerns after Islamic militants attacked the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine offices in Paris last month. “This will create fear among people on a whole different level than we’re used to,” he said. “Charlie Hebdo was a small oasis. Not many dared do what they did.” The Copenhagen tragedy is reminiscent of the Paris attacks, the former head of operations at the Danish Security and Intelligence Service said. Oops Toy Doll Mistaken For Abandoned Child As Emergency Crew Breaks Into Car Via AJC You can call it a case of mistaken identity. Emergency responders in Hoboken, N.J. thought they were rescuing a baby left in a hot car, but instead pulled out a doll. The life-sized doll was left perched in a car seat by a 2-year-old girl. The girl’s grandmother admits the doll was strikingly lifelike, however she wishes crews would have taken a closer look. “The doll is here. All you have to do is go like this, and there’s the doll,” Kitty Mieles said as she showed news crews where the doll was located. Officials said they weren’t taking any chances on potentially saving a life. “Seconds are paramount there. That’s the difference between a baby breathing, not breathing. Pulse, no pulse,” said Thomas Molta, president of the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Officials said 19 children have died this summer after being left in hot cars. Better safe than sorry. Michigan Man Claims He Shot Black Teen On His Porch Because He Feared For His Life The trial is underway for Theodore Wafer, a white suburban homeowner who shot 19-year-old McBride in the face as she sought help on his porch and he’s hoping the jury will sympathize with his fearfulness. Via Al-Jazeera America reports: Defense attorney Cheryl Carpenter on Wednesday appealed to a Detroit jury to “understand how Ted felt” before he shot an unarmed black teen on his porch last fall. “He was acting and reacting to escalating fear,” Carpenter said in her opening statement about Theodore Wafer, 55, on trial for second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Renisha McBride. “He had never been so scared in his entire life. It’s horrible and it’s sad that a 19-year-old woman is dead. But Ted is justified in what he did.” Whether it was reasonable for Wafer to think his house was under attack is the key question the jury must weigh as this galvanizing, racially charged trial proceeds in Detroit. Wafer is white and lives in the mostly white Detroit border city of Dearborn Heights. He killed McBride in the early hours of Nov. 2, when, he says, she was banging on his door. To the prosecution, this is a straightforward case of a trigger-happy homeowner who opened the front door and shot McBride rather than, if he was truly afraid, calling 911. He called 911 after the shooting occurred. “There was no sign of any attempted burglary, there’s no evidence of any effort to breaking in,” said prosecutor Danielle Hagaman-Clark in her opening remarks. “His actions that night are unnecessary, unjustified and unreasonable. Because of that, a 19-year-old girl is dead on a porch in Dearborn Heights. Would you have called 911 first? The defense attorney is already doing a “bang up” job describing Wafer’s state of mind before he pulled the trigger: Carpenter said Wafer was fast asleep in a recliner in his living room when, at around 4:20 a.m., someone banged on his door. Fearful, he lay on the floor and groped for his cellphone but could not find it. Over the subsequent minutes he panicked, believing his home was under siege by possibly more than one attacker and asserting he heard metal in the front door frame “breaking.” “They’re coming to get me,” Carpenter said, narrating Wafer’s thoughts in the moment. “It’s metal breaking. Breaking! On his front door. Ted hears it. Ted is thinking they’re coming in. They’re breaking [into] my house. Why? He doesn’t have a clue. He just knows they’re coming in.” Carpenter sought to defuse the racial elements of the case by insisting that Wafer didn’t know the color or gender of the person when he shot her. All he knew, she said, was that he opened his front door, noticed the screen frame a few inches out of its hinge and then fired the gun when McBride leaped onto the stoop, startling him. “Ted is shattered,” Carpenter said. “He knows immediately that he killed somebody … It was only after that he saw it was a shorter person. She seemed dark-complected but he isn’t sure. He didn’t know anything before he shot. All he knew was, ‘People are breaking into my house.’” Do you believe that he didn’t know she was black? In the meantime there is a lot working against the prosecution’s case, namely the fact that an autopsy has established McBride’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit and witnesses have confirmed she was drinking and smoking marijuana earlier that night. After opening statements, prosecutors called McBride’s mother and best friend. Between the two of them, they established that McBride had drunk vodka and smoked marijuana in the evening of Nov. 1 at home. Her mother said she and McBride argued because the teen hadn’t cleaned the house, and McBride left the house by car at around 11:15 p.m. Around 1 a.m., she crashed her car into that of Carmen Beasley, who lives about a mile from Wafer on the Detroit side of the city limits. Beasley said she tried to get McBride to stay put as they waited for the police and an ambulance, but McBride vanished. “She just wanted to go home,” Beasley testified. “She wasn’t belligerent. She was young and she just wanted to be at home. That was her goal, to be home.” This case is so sad. We really feel for McBride and her family and the prosecution is building a strong case that Wafer’s greatest error was going to the door with a locked and loaded shotgun, a weapon likely to do serious damage at such close range. But if a stranger knocked on your door at 4 am can you say you wouldn’t do the same? It’s not like he could see in the dark that she was bleeding from the head and needed help. Via TMZ : Drake just paid a ton of respect to Rappin’ 4-Tay — in the form of cold, hard cash — to settle a beef in which 4-Tay claimed Drizzy jacked his rhymes. 4-Tay first put Drake on blast when YG’s hit “Who Do You Love” came out. Drake drops lyrics on the song that are clearly ripped straight from 4-Tay’s 1994 hit “Playaz Club.” 4-Tay was offended Drake didn’t give him credit on the song. No lawsuit was ever filed, but sources close to the situation tell us a very lucrative agreement was reached. 4-Tay’s manager tells TMZ … Drake’s record label agreed to pay 4-Tay $100,000 for “borrowing” the lines. Not shockingly … 4-Tay tells us he’s no longer offended. Let’s face it, $100,000 is chump change to Drizzy and the label.
